the original ending of "Get Out" actually had the main character get arrested but it was later changed because the writer wanted to give the MC a win
i always thought they were two full endings just one of them being an alternate ending. I'm pretty sure the arrested ending was fully shot and edited too

I feel like Death in Final destination is the best horror villain that takes a different route from any slasher but still allows for creative death scenes.
Like how can you escape something you can't escape from or can't even hurt, while it starts a chain of events that lead to a piece of plane debris falling on you?

Thinking about it now, Ghost Rider would make for a great villain in a horror movie. Imagine being a villain like Green Goblin. You and the Sinister Six aren’t dealing with Spider-Man but someone who wants you dead.
I agree! And the best thing is that he wouldn't just kill them, he'd literally put them through hell with his penance stare and make them relive everything evil they've done. Now if that could be portrayed as terrifying as it really is in a horror movie, that'd really be a cool premise, with the protagonists being villains themselves it'd be interesting to see the audience relate to them for once

I’ve always been really intrigued by how inconsistent and confusing the Halloween series is. I honestly love that they just reset it like every other film.

As someone who wasn't that much into horror, with the exception of the Predator franchise and horror kaiju flicks, and having just kinda recenly getting more into the genre, you did a great job highlighting the genre's strengths and weaknesses. Plus, I'm glad you actually debunked the "wHy ArE hOrRoR mOvIe ChArAcTeRs AcTiNg DuMb" argument, because it feels that many times the people who make that criticism forget that humans do not always make perfect decisions when they are under emotional pressure, and then those same people call other characters "MaRy SuEs" and "GaRy StUs" because they did not make the same mistakes.
Especially since a good chunk of horror movie characters, at least in the slasher genre, where the vast majority of this criticism is towards, are either teens or people who just graduated highschool. As someone who has only recently graduated highschool, I can safely say being a dumbass is perfectly normal.

I've been getting into a bit of horror content as of late - mostly because I want to give the genre a fair chance, there's some real great stuff in there - and one series I finished up last year and really enjoyed was the web series Marble Hornets. It had a really fun premise, great acting and an engaging narrative that had me gripped from start to finish.
I won't say much more than that, but if you haven't watched it yet give it a try. It's absolutely worth the time sink.
Marble Hornets was one of the reasons why I started fearing the Slenderman again. They do a great job of subtlety adding him into scenes and his proxies bug the shit out of me.

I’ve never much been a horror guy person in my life , to the point where as a kid I was terrified at the incredibly goofy It mini series back in the 90s.
Yeah, I was waiting for the shot from "The Thing" (1986). Such a good movie in general. The pacing and subtle details just make it so great for me. Especially with Windows being the last one to have the keys, and dropping them after seeing his friend getting assimilated in the storage room.
I watched this thriller movie called boy behind the door. It's about these two friends who get kidnapped, then one has to save the other. It wasnt super scary but it did a fantastic job as a thriller because I was flinching every few minutes.
Saw it recently, I was stressed out for the entire thing

13:30 fun fact: Get Out was originally going to end with a downer ending that was actually filmed. But Jordan Peele realized that Daniel Kaluuya's character went through so much in the movie that he filmed the ending that was used in the final product.
“Fun” fact: the actors on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were practically tortured on set so a lot of the movie is people actually going crazy from the heat. So a lot of injuries were real.
Honestly horror movies are one of my favorite genres because of the variety they bring and are more creator focused then studio focus

I personally think jumpscares are hilarious, like I went to watch the nun with a friend in theatres and I was laughing the whole way through, I think it was the most I've laughed in a theater

One of my favorite genres of horror is Cosmic Horror.
This genre focuses on the fear of things that are beyond our human understanding. Things that make us feel insignificant and completely powerless to them.
John Carpenter's The Thing is a good example. The idea of an organism completely replacing you from the inside until there's nothing left of you is scary as hell.
Annihilation is also in that category and i desperately want to watch it because of that.
Because what i have seen of it is terrifying

One of my favorite videos is Michael Myers playing in someone's yard. Then they edit Laurie having a scared reaction. Even Jason comes in at one point. I wish I could remember the name, it's hilarious to me.

This video was really good! I was actually taking notes during it as you pointed out what makes effective horror(getting to know the characters before they get hurt and using the audiences own mind against them). Hopefully I can use this in my writing some day!
My favorites horror series is the Alvin one from 2016, I never expected this much psychological horror from 2016. They torture Dave to an extent that makes you wonder why he hasn't gone insane yet, and don't forget the designs of the monsters *shivers*

Personally, I enjoy watching VHS Fnaf and VHS styled horror (Officially known as "Analog Horror), like the Walten Files, Battington Tapes, Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment, and so on.
If you're tired of horror movies, these might scare you better.
Don't mean to be THAT guy, but the specific name for this sub-genre is "Analog Horror".

Oh I love those ones (I haven't heard lf battington tapes) because it creeps me out but in a good way. I don't like most horror movies because of the gore (the walten files does have a bit of gore but it's not in like a super realistic way) but analog horror usually doesnt have gore in it. But it scares me in a way that intrest me

You know what's my favorite experience in this genre? Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, one of the best horror animes in memories I've watched, and I'm glad it's ongoing till I read the manga, the manga though, it's absolutely a different story, I highly recommend you give it a raise
I'm no fan of horror, the only time I will give horror a chance if it's animated and bonus points if it's stop-motion animated. As a kid I loved Coraline, ParaNorman, Gravity Falls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Corpse Bride. I swear we hate more stop-motion horror movies.

I’m not a big fan of most horror movies but I do enjoy horror/science fiction anthology shows like the twilight zone, mainly because it’s a lot of psychological horror or horrifying situations. Mainly ones where a character or a group are thrown into helpless situations and they have no escape. My favorite episode of TZ has to be the pilot. The episode is literally just about a man walking into a town having no idea who he is, how he got there or what is going on. The town is completely empty yet the power is still on. Watching him slowly lose his mind is so introducing to me.
