The reason why we fall in love with heavy metal is Black Sabbath 🔥
But Black Sabbath is not the first Heavy Metal Band , Don ' t forget Iron Butterfly : in the gada da vida a 20 Minute Song from 1968 or 1969 , Jimmy Hendrik or The Who
@@michaelbuttner4262 there were definitely those who did it before sabbath, but they brought it into the mainstream
@@arnoldcox9128 Heavy Metal was never Mainstream music or boring my start as a Metalhead was 1980 with 13 years - today with 55 years and still long hair , the same strong love to Heavy Metal Music
@@arnoldcox9128 the first was in a Magazine call this music: HEAVY METAL , that is all Rock or Hard Rock like Deep Purple , Kiss or AC/ DC
Red flag means " no quarter"
Best war protest song of all time. No holds barred.
Monster by Steppenwolf is a very close second.
Ccr definitely has a great one.
@@michaelbouchard550Disposable Heroes has entered the chat...
@blitz3643 stop it with that already, that's a great song but will nvr be on black sabbath level😂
@@mr.righty6985 I didn't know you were Michael Bouchard?
Reading comprehension is hard..
This song was released in 1970. No surprise to me that it is still perfectly accurate today 53 years after the song was originally released. The red is the blood of the innocents. A superb band with a wonderfully screwy lead singer, (Ozzy Ozbourne), and an epic lead guitarist, (Tony Iommi).
Don’t you dare forget Geezer Butler on the bass. 😉
@@NinjaLill My apologies! I was having a brain F**t at the time. I couldn't remember his name!
Before anybody thought of the term “Heavy Metal,” it was simply called “Black Sabbath.”
I wish this War Pigs video didn't exist. When the record came out you only had the cover art to look at. You are supposed to close your eyes when you listen to a song like this. These graphic videos rob you of your own imagination. Cover art videos and lyrics videos are the best to react to. Not your fault. You kick ass!
We are gonna want the right images in the video tho. What ones do u want to see?
@@SteveSmith-sw9uu Album Cover art or song lyrics only.
On UA-cam, the 1970 live in Paris, Black Sabbath war pigs. Please give it a try. 15 million views.
Agreed. 100%.
Black Sabbath is the Truth. Those first six albums shaped music as we know it today. They were seismic.
This song always makes me cry! War is ugly and the people in power just use the poor as pawns.
It takes a special kind of genius to rhyme "masses" with "masses."
Almost to 20K! Congrats on the growth man! Love the insightful and intelligent reactions from someone passionate!
Thank you, that means a lot!
Yes. This channel is one of the best of what comes reactions. Open minded and funny.
Me too! I really like this guy a lot!!
One of the most powerful anti-war songs ever, by the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Thanks for your reaction.
Rolling Stones Sympathy For The Devil! ❤ GREAT song!
When I was 13, this band changed my music taste.I never heard a guitar sound like that.
OMG, yes same here. I was 13, my neighbor (16 yo, just got her license) started washing her car rocking out some Black Sabbath! Went from listening to country and pop to only Metal and Harder Rock. That was 1983.
@theidajawho BlackSabbath Vol.4,,1979 is when I heard it
Same but with drums
The LYRICS🗣️ & the DRUMS are the Star ⭐ of this amazing anti war masterpiece❗
That 'red' flag is her matriarch's bloody eye cover. It was white in the beginning...then it became red from her blood. Huge statement. Thank you for sharing this one.
One one the greatest if not the best ever Sabbath Metal song!!
There's a live performance of this song from Paris in 1970 that is amazing.
Fifty four years old
And this song still kills it
If it wasn't for them
There would be no heavy metal
Is long live sabbath
I saw Ozzy in 2004, he had Bush Jr up on the big screen all through this song.
Crazy Train. Also great lyrics and a killer song.
Guitarist Randy Rhodes at his best. May he rest in peace.
@@robbob5302Amen ❤
I love Black Sabbath's Master of Reality album. From short instrumentals like "Orchid", to their anthems like "Sweet Leaf", "Solitude", "Children of the Grave" & "Into the Void" to name a few.
You must watch the live performance in 1970 in Paris. It will blow you away. No exaggeration. 🇨🇦🔥🔥🔥🔥🥇🌟👍
Also, check out their concert at Paris in 1970.
It's incredible.
Really.
Man, I have never seen someone appreciate this song so much! This warmed my heart.
Ignore the animated video. It is not an official video from the band. It was a student-created animation done decades after the song was released and not connected in any way to the song. The person who created this UA-cam video attached it to War Pigs because they thought it was cool and they got tons of view because of it. If you really want to see a cool video of this song performed live check out the 1970 Paris live version (not actually in Paris, but that is the title). It's crazy good.
I grew up listening to Master of Reality and at 63, it’s still relevant and regular rotation on my playlist
One of the greatest anti-war songs of all time.
Shon and to think this was written during the Vietnam War and the band was born just after WWII so they had a lot to say about it! The drums are killer in this song. Real drives it.
Despite the true meaning of the song, I love that WWE used it as the theme song for every one of their NXT WarGames events & last year's WWE Survivor Series: WarGames event, which fit those events perfectly. Whether you're a wrestling fan or not, the WarGames match is nothing short of epic & I recommend those matches to fans & non-fans alike!.. 😁👍
It was so damn cool to bring in Ozzy for Survivor Series.
Some of the best things about the older music is the musicianship and talent and that some of them (specifically the lyrics) are still relevant today. I really don't hear any music from this current century that have that.
I always find it so ironic, that politicians, especially the right wing & their followers, would say heavy metal bands were evil & destructive to mankind, yet their music is all about, calling out those politicians for their evil & destruction to mankind!!! Great reaction guys!!!
One of the best Black Sabbath songs another great song you should check out is One by Metallica.
Soooo glad you did this one!! The guitar player lost the tips of his fingers before US tour. They worked in a factory and he lost them in a metal press. His guitar had to be strung loosely which creates the deep dark sound of the one and only Black Sabbath!!
Black Sabbath 1968-eternity🤘
Her mother's blind fold covered in her blood being set free, this is the next generation of resistance
This song is so good at porteront the emotion of being at war. The sirens at beginning are so so haunting! It still astounds me that if you were rich, you could get out of fighting in the Vietnam war. But those who weren’t, so many were conscripted. That guitar part you mentioned sounds like doomsday is coming! 😱
I like this guy he talks a lot during the song, but he listens intently and analyzes what he hears. Just hit the subscribe button
Sabbath, OG's of Metal!!! Mic drop...
I really enjoyed your reaction, it was genuine unlike alot of other people on UA-cam. Thanks for diving into the lyrics and thinking about what they are really saying and not just reacting to the drums & guitar. I love seeing people exposed to different kinds of music.
This song is 100% truth!!
The red flag was the blindfold that was on her mother. It was white but turned red from her blood.
Love the reaction, hate this video. This is NOT a Black Sabbath Video. This video has nothing to do with the song. A fan took this video and put the black sabbath song on it. Unfortunately, many reactors watch this video, not knowing this, and are sometimes distracted from the song because they are watching this video. I'm very glad that you paid attention to the music and the lyrics more than other reactors have!
Well said - Id have been not as PC - Thanks
Oh wow, I had no idea! I tried my best to pay attention to the lyrics specifically
You’re doing great as a new reactor. No reactor can know this video doesn’t belong with the song until after they react to it, so no one should hold it against you!
@@shon1303 the video has nothing to do with the song it was produced 40 years after the song
HATE is a very strong word and emotion. It is because of HATE that we cannot stand our fellow human beings and have wars in the first place. Peace from Africa.
Geezer thumpin that bass sounds like a big thick rubber band. lol This is raw metal.
Check Paris live.. it's even freaking better. one of the greatest anti-war, anti-corporate, anti establishment songs of all times. also it rocks .. the drums with Geezer .. Ozzy .. and Tony Iommi playing with his cut off fingers kicking so much ass. thanks for doing this one.. do check the live in Paris. Blow your mind
The flag is a rag. It's covered in blood. She took it off of the women who was executed in the beginning of the video.
One thing to think about is how Black Sabbath and Ozzy were portrayed in the media back in the day. When I was a kid, the most common story in the media was that they were devil worshipers, etc. I personally think this was an attack to distract the average person from their messages in their songs.
I think you would like a lot of their songs, some of which the lyrics have deep and/or good meaning. You should always have lyrics captioned on the screen for them.
Songs to check out:
*N.I.B. (1970)* The lyrics are in the first person from the point of view of Lucifer. Bassist Geezer Butler, who composed the song's lyrics, has said that "the song was about the devil falling in love and totally changing, becoming a good person.
*After Forever (1971)* Lyrics were written by Geezer Butler (bass) while the music was written by Tony Iommi (guitar). Geezer who was brought up strictly Catholic, focus entirely on Christian themes
*Children of the Grave (1971)* The song lyrically continues with the same anti-war themes brought on by "War Pigs" and "Electric Funeral"
*Fairies Wear Boots (1970)* Funny about doings drugs like acid/LSD
*Sweet Leaf (1971)* It's about the first time Ozzy smoked weed
*Lord of This World (1971)* It's basically Lucifer telling you that most of us on earth follow him (doing bad things and sinning) and less people follow God and the devil is loving it, and he asks at the end, "But will you turn to me when it's your turn to die"
*Sabbath Bloody Sabbath* (1973)* The band had been feeling quite pressured and Tony Iommi (guitar) had writer's block. The band rented the supposedly haunted Clearwell Castle in hopes that the change of scenery would give them a vibe and shake some songs loose. Apparently it worked; on their very first day there Tony wrote the riff to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath."
I was expecting for someone to say for you to watch the live version, but I didn't see it, this is unbelievable live, you will love it. The musicians and Ozzy were at the top of their game. It's Black Sabbath live 1970. Good reaction bro. The only suggestion I have for you, when you stop and re-start, back it us a couple of seconds when you start it again.
One of the absolute best songs in any genre ever. Ozzy is the GOAT.
Black Sabbath - paranoid , ram jam - black betty , pink floyd - another brick in the wall , pink floyd - comfortably numb , beastie boys - fight for your right , cheap trick - i want you to want me ... just some classics everybody should know !!!
By the way did you know you can sing “Deck the Halls” to this melody? And “War Pigs” to that DTH melody? Great way to shake up a Christmas party!! 😅😅
Well my family Christmas gathering is going to be interesting this year! Thanks! I never knew that!
The great Bill Ward on the drums.
Yes 1970 right at the end of Vietnam war.
WE who have never had to experience war or invasion directly in our country I Thank God for this. And to have it in our homes and streets would be un imagineable. That little girl represents so so many that are and have lived with that kind of Hell.
This is one of my favoeite Ozzy Songs growing up i saw Black Sabath so.many many times, like ive said begore, they seemed to be in my home town in Ca in concert, i thought they had to live close lol they showed up with other bands with not being on the Bill or anounced they were coming them and ZZ TOP. Love thrm also. But hearing all the songs in my teen yrs + and listening to them now. I still love Black Sabath, but didnt appreciate some of the songs then as i do now. Like War Pigs i said its my favorite, and it is now at 60ish.
I find that often now days. The music, bands from my generation years are still my favorite bands, however alot of the songs have switched positions as life moves on the songs move around on the list. All have memories, just in my teens hadnt lived enough to understand and appreciate certain songs or i see them and feel them diffrently then i did years ago.
With that said some have been deeply planted in my soul from day one and will always stay put. Like the song i heard leaving the hospital the day my mother died.
Im so glad to see younger tubers reacting and understanding and appreciating "My Generation Music" so Thank you for giving something new or in this case old a chance to be appreciated and enjoyed for a bit longer ! Have fun and enjoy. .
Another group you should listen to that speaks facts to war is the group System of the Down..listen to these 3 songs
Toxicity
Chop Suey
B.Y.O.B.
These guys bring it as well as Ozzy did in War pigs😍🤙
One of the greatest and most epic songs ever made - sadly still relevant ( Kind of a hymn for Ukraine and humanity )
Ozzy Osbourne! One of the greatest front man-vocalist for any Rock band!
Bill Ward!! Beating the hell outta that kit!!
She is lady justice. I really got that when they put the blindfold on her.
Bass player Terrance “Geezer” Butler wrote the best lyrics way ahead of his time.
Great reaction, I'll add another vote for the 1970 live version! Keep an eye on the drumming
1970 is my teenage years. We all love one another. Are government wants us apart
On UA-cam 1970 live in Paris, Black Sabbath war pigs. Excellent video and sound doesn’t sound dated technologically at all. That’s the version of this song to watch. 15 million views.
If you want a love song by Black Sabbath, you should choose "Sabbra Cadabra" from their fifth album .... Or N.I.B. from their first album!! I will wait to see if you choose either!!
New sub. dude. Love how you really listen and get the meaning behind deep songs.
My first concert, February 2, 1976, Hampton Virginia on my 13th birthday. Bob Seger and Black Sabbath. Weird combo I know. I mainly wanted to see Seger, it was when his Night Moves album just came out. Friggin memories.
knowing that "War Pigs" came out in 1970 and here we are in 2023 and its still relatable unfortunately to the world today is both amzing and sad. a lot of songs from the sixties & seventies were about world issues especially about war. its just that back then most artists werent as obvious with their lyrics or titles as black sabbath was with "War Pigs". unfortunately there arent as many artists today that are willing to address these same things as artists back in the day did. it almost seemed like it was expected for artists to speak out where as now most are more concerned with not becoming part of the "cancelled movement". might explain why there arent many current artists that i truly love, where there are tons of 'older' artiists that i still love/like much more. Tom Macdonald is one of the few 'current' artists that dares to have substance to his music.
This came out in the early 70s, during the Vietnam war. Lots of anti-war songs were written during those days.
GODFATHERS OF HEAVY METAL HERE!!!
Keep everyone against everyone and there safe ;)
Been a fan since the early 80s . One of the Greatest's
Epic song, still revelant today
Black Sabbath was the Truth!
Add these to your COOKOUT PLAYLIST my music lovin' brother,, Rufus "Tell Me Something Good",, The Staple Singers "I'll Take You There" & Al Wilson "Show And Tell"
love the excitement man.
Iron maiden is another counter culture anti war / anti greed / anti exploitation metal band
Song is so true. Even back then
Look for the live version.
The FOUNDERS of this genre of heavy metal.
Great review Shon!
Imagine how controversial this song was 53 years ago!
Love your reactions, subscribed.
these are the guys who started it all dude
Super Group...🤘🏻
That was originally a white blindfold now stained blood.
The guitarist had the tips of 2 of his fingers cut off and he made his own prosthesis how metal is that
Two things I told you at the earliest opportunity were, 1 You need Black Sabbath in your life and 2 if you listen we will watch. Great reaction and glad to see the Channel doing well. Dive in to the Dark Rabbit hole. I will reiterate another suggestion. AC/DC, but do it from the beginning and make it a series. Channel building shit my friend. All the best from an old metal head in Ireland.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Sabbath were really doing an amazing version of a kind of theatrical metal, before metal was even really a thing. Some people say Led Zeppelin was the first metal band, but I would argue that though they laid some of the groundwork, Sabbath was where metal was truly born.
I love watching you listen to a song off the first vinyl i ever had. The entire album is awesome ❤️
Basically, they were telling the politicans that started Vietnam to go to hell, and stay there. B.Y.O.B from System of a Down is kind of a sequel to this song.
this is Ozzy Ozborne 's band before Ozzy;s new band that made Crazy train you reacted to. the little girl waving the red scarf means war! the little girl represents the people standing up to the governments.
"Watch" Santana Woodstock "Soul Sacrifice"
Well considered reaction. Thanks.
Great reaction 😊
you caught that bit about god quickly and just right. We do not want him to have to intervene
nice yo see the lights is really on. ty.
Great reaction, bro! Do me a favor and tap the left arrow key to go back 5 seconds any time you pause it to comment. You sometimes miss some important parts or interesting nuance and this will help avoid that. Keep on rockin!
Growing up before mtv, I feel your pain. I still conceive videos in my own mind though.
You need to know we who are still breathig died there to.
Hand of Doom 🔥🔥🔥
1:19 the adrenaline hits, and now you know what this is
The literal start of heavy metal was anti-war protest and "Shit ain't OK" feeling and social justice orientation that was profoundly anti-Flower Power of the times also.
this has been going on a long time, Day of Judgement, God is Calling right now...
