This is the beginning. He started with pain, abuse, and addiction. The next two albums deal with it and overcome it.
That was Henry Rollins in Bottom during the spoken word part.
Also, you haven't checked out their album "Opiate" yet 😉 More anger and sarcasm. I love old Tool.

I was a sophomore in high school when this album dropped and we were all listening to it. This is my favorite Tool album but my favorite Tool song is the song “Opiate “ from the previous album
Bought this cd when it first came out, drove my coworkers totally mad! Played every day for a year straight. Still have it!.
The album eases you in with a bong hit, and then ends with one of the craziest secret tracks of all time! Love everything else in between as well. Great reaction.
I saw Tool open for Rollins Band in Seattle with about 300 people in the audience one of them being Kim Thayil (guitarist from Soundgarden).

You should check out their prior release, an EP titled Opiate. Like every other Tool album, it doesn't sound quite like any other, but it's most similar to Undertow. I missed the heavier, rawer sound from Undertow when Aenima was first released, especially the bass, but it grew on me eventually.
Disgustipated was a hidden track on the CD, #69 I think. I love it, feels very Industrial, and actually lead me to try listening to "real" Industrial, which is now my "main" genre of choice.
Opiate and the next two albums are still my favorite Tool albums.
Love the rain, & fireplace in the backgound. This goes well with lots of Tool songs. They are amazing. And every album rocks. You should check out 'A Perfect Circle' and 'Puscifer' which are two other bands MJK has in his catalogue of genius and his imagination. But also, every band member in all three bands is super talented ..top tier. I suggest starting with 'The Package' by A Perfect Circle and either :'The Remedy' or 'The Humbling River' by Puscifer. Or BOTH :) Each band has a unique sound. Even his vocals ... Amazing and therapeutic asf. For me anyway 🤷. 🤘

Nah, I heard it afterwards. It’s just, the stream got shutdown but I listened to it after I logged out.
This whole album is raw and aggressive its why I love it I still remember the fist time I heard this when it came out so many years ago

If you review the Opiate EP, you’ll have to skip track 1 (Sweat) because it was used in the movie “Escape from LA” and it will get taken down.
