Ritchie Blackmore is the guitar GOAT!!! Jon Lord (RIP) keyboard GOAT!!! The 3 others are top 5 ever ( Ian, Ian, and Rodger). Next up for Deep Purple should be Highway Star (live of coarse) This band absolutely masters of music. They really put their heart and soul into every note. Keep up the good work young man.

Jon Lord (RIP) plays an organ, a piano has one keyboard, an organ can have multiple keyboards and a complete set of foot peddles as well. He is playing a Hammond Organ with a Lesile speaker, which gives it a distinctive sound as the speaker has a rotating head in its cabinet.

My father saw Deep Purple in 1973 at Madison Square Garden, he still talks about it. At that time they were said to be the loudest band in the world, and my father can attest to the fact that he couldn’t hear properly all the next day after being in the 4th row center stage.

Great song! This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. Some of my favorites are their covers of Joe South's "Hush" & Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman", "Lazy", "Fireball", "Speed King", "My Woman From Tokyo", "Space Truckin'" etc.

Deep Purple is an iconic band! Their most known song is "Smoke On The Water". The guitar riff is legendary as it is the most played tune on the guitar! Every (!) guitarist knows how to play it - absolutly basic and often the first riff played when learning the guitar. It quite simple, but genius! The lyrics of the song are telling a true story about "Smoke On The Water - Fire In The Sky!" *sing

Richie Blackmore, Deep Purple guitarist at this time, has a band with his wife called... BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. They play a unique genre ... neo-medieval folk rock. You should react to the "Official Live Video" version of the song ... UNDER A VIOLENT MOON. They do an excellent cover of the Joan Baez hit DIAMONDS AND RUST ... her story of a phone call from Bob Dylan, whom she dated for 4 years when they were younger. I'd play the Joan Baez version because it's her story.

Check out their song lazy from their iconic Machine Head album in early 70s if you want to see John Lord own that Hammond B3 organ through a marshall stack or whatever particular thing he was playing at for the studio recording and there's also decent live footage of them doing it.

1970……the birth of heavy metal. The song is about the Vietnam war

  • @greggary7217
    @greggary7217 9 місяців тому +6

It was an expression of horror over Vietnam and of empathy for the young people who found themselves embroiled in it (I’m cryin for you day and night) and what it required of them.
The studio (original) version has a different ending that makes that clear, this was wild but changed the meaning I believe to accommodate the network.
The studio version also contains one of the most iconic guitar solos of the era somewhat less emphasis on the organ, but is imo a master work.
Thanks for the reaction, good to see their work appreciated. ✌🏻

I've been enjoying your journey in to the dark rabbit hole of old skool metal for some time. I told you to get some Black Sabbath in your life some time ago. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are known as the "Unholy Trinity" of British Metal. All Metal was inspired by these Diamond Geezers! The Keyboard/organ sound you like is a Hammond B5 Organ, an instrument incredibly well utilised by the African American musical collective back in the day for extremely funky purposes. It's a bank holiday Friday and Beer O'clock is in the rear view mirror. In general I'm 100% right, but don't quote me on that! But do look up Hammond B5 music, we all need to get our Groove on. Kinds regards as always from Dublin Ireland.

SERIOUSLY - listen to this song and the whole live album (all on YT) "Made in Japan" by Deep Purple. This song is better. There's a vocal/guitar battle on "Strange Kind of Woman". "Highway Star" is effing nuts. Ian Gillan has a short yelling contest with the polite Japanese crowd

I heard Ian Gillen talk about this song and the way Ritchie Blackmore would be a swine and start it in a slightly higher key each time when live so Gillen would mentally freak out knowing he had to stretch that bit too high to get those top notes. Because it was like an Olympic level of singing and he got to the point where he had to stop singing child in time. His vocal
Chords just couldn’t take it anymore and he never sung it again.
