Great video. I have about 50 plants all on wicks sitting on reservoirs that are always full of water, I just use a 50/50 standard potting mix and perilite. As such they are always wet , the roots , or feet, they grow like weeds that way. Some of my pink ones sport 50+flowers at one time. I started a few years back in clay pots no wicks just top or bottom water. That method produces a nice plant but often got root rot. I switched to wicks with plastic pots instead works way better.

I just picked up 2 sad looking ones from my local big box store for $2; I’m excited to learn as much as I can to let them thrive!

How did it go? I have seen it's hard to revive them after they start to turn!

Oh, how neat, congrats on retiring. I too just retired in March 2019. Watch out for post retirement depression. I retired from Dept of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, worked psychtriatric thirty years and different forms of medical and hospital positions, along with nursing. It is excellent that you have some much to do since you retire, but some days you will actually miss your work life. People told me, but didn't believe it until it happened to me. Thank you for sharing your passion and your experience. I have a natural green thumb, but i have learned so much, watching turitital on you tube.

It took me approximately 10 years to keep one alive, the internet was definitely a help

I've always grown succulents and got an African violet which I managed to get to bloom and now have bought a few more. Thank you so much for all the info and will check All about African violets.

Wow! Your plants are absolutely beautiful. I have tried, and tried, and have not succeeded to keep my violets alive. You have inspired me to try again.

I found out my tap water is adjusted to 7.5 so I’m considering pH down. I wish I had my light shelves, again, I used to have two! Now I just have my windowsills covered! My biggest tip is to join AVSA and your local club!

Are you from the Chi, or was that where you landed? I just happened across this because I rescued an African violet from a neighbor who moved. She had left several plants/planters on her porch when she moved out. I decided I would like the pots at the least because the plants had all died...I thought. The violet came back to life when I got it inside onto my counter in the kitchen. I hadn't done anything to it other than add some water to the soil in all the pots to see if I could stimulate anyone to grow in the coming week or two otherwise, I would just toss the lot and reuse the pots. Well, this violet was the ONLY thing that began to grow again so I repotted it, and here I am. I think the soil mix had WAY too much fert in it, because it now has a 4 inch "trunk" curled up under her. This causes me some grief in potting and watering because Im afraid to get any rot on the trunk thing. So I am continually trying to keep that trunk off the soil, and dry. I wish I could send a pic of it. I really need help getting it under control.
But, Annie, you look very familiar... Im from Decatur, have you ever worked around central Illinois?

I have looked for info information on how to separate violets. I bought some from Walmart and they have grown beautifully but there are like 3-5 plants attached in each pot, they are in a three inch pot and need to be put in a bigger pot or separated. But I’m afraid I’ll kill them if I separate them. I know it’s best to separate so if anyone else can help me I would appreciate it.

What is the name of the AF that was in that picture with creamy white edges with purple flowers? Would love to be able to buy that type of plant.

Hi there, I'm wondering what type of soil that contains Mycorrhizae....if its good for african violets when propergating?
    There's 3 kinds:
    Primer Promix HP
    Multi propose MP
    And HP CC
I'm just not having any luck 😕
