🇬🇧 Certainly works for me, most people forget warm air rises therefore it's a waste to angle the outlet upwards. Keep the outlet low down for maximum efficiency.
I'm using one to heat my basement in the winter. I have mine on the lowest setting and my basement gets to 55 degrees. My pump isn't that loud. Also I put a longer exhaust pipe on mine with the muffler on the outside with the small pipe on the other end. I love it. Mine is just going though an aluminum pipe out a window. I made a small piece of plywood with a hole for the exhaust.
Replace the green fuel line with the hard nylon type : the green fuel line flexes and reduces the pulses volume and reduces the amount of fuel being delivered to your burner .
Thank you for commenting. I had to do that in the 2nd video when it filled up with carbon
I have pretty much the same unit you have ,us it in my tool shed .They work great and my set up is almost like yours although I did add a shield at the bottom on the exhaust port to make sure it didn't melt the fuel line ,which mine almost did. Make sure and run it on the highest setting at least once in a while to keep it cleaned out inside also . Thanks for the video .
Ok. Thank you for commenting and sharing your experience with me.
This is the same unit I bought a few months ago. I have it mounted outside with just the heat outlet routed inside my shop. It'll heat my 10x10 little shop from 32 to 65 in about 45 minutes. Once it's warm in the shop I turn it down to level 2 and it'll hold 65-70 just fine
@@stevenolson5703 Thanks for commenting. I can raise the temp in the garage 10 degree in about 1 hour. Its working great.
Insulate that roof... make a massive dfference!
Hi Paul from the UK. You'll find it'll help if you have the air intake for the burner (obviously the one with the air filter) outside. If you run it as it is, it's constantly having to draw cold air in from the outside, which is in effect producing a cold air draft. Also I guess, as it's using up air, the oxygen content of your workspace might be reduced slightly - that's if you have your space sealed.
FYI I have an identical 5Kw heater in my workshop, and I've found that by running at approx 3Hz, it can fairly easily maintain 16 degrees C (about 60 F), when the outside is minus 4 C (25 F) My workshop is a similar size to yours, but has an insulated ceiling - the height is about 8 feet. So it's well worth getting insulation in the roof if you can. The other advantage of doing this is that it keeps way much cooler during the summer months. Dunno if that's an issue where you live? Regards Jono
Ok. Thank you for your comment. I will make the modification. Thank you!!!
Here in the UK the same unit is twice the price.
@@boblordylordyhowie The heater without the flimsy frame on eBay is about £100 -150. You get everything but the frame, the tank, the exhaust, the remote, etc. Easier to house as it is smaller and just the same as the one with the frame.
@@ronnietexan Except you have to buy all the rest and end up spending more money than the entire kit. Oh, and EVERYTHING in the UK is double that of the US.
@Bob Howie No, as I said you get everything BUT THE FRAME! So it cost you no more money at all. The only thing that could cost anything is if you build your own frame, I know, I bought it, and that's why I added the comment.
Edit. Not everything is twice the price, stop lying and spreading the lie. It's about £100 150 for the heater with everything BUT THE FRAME, not twice the price!
Need to point the hot air vent across the floor not straight up because your heat will go up on its own. Just a thought .
TiBohne´s Garage Diesel Heater God all 4 Tuning Pins
If you put old filtered engine oil in this machine will it burn it?, or do you need to dilute the old engine oil with diesel fuel to thin down the engine oil to the same consistency as diesel fuel?.
I’m not sure. I don’t plan on running waste oil. I’ve heard other do but I’m not sure how they do it.
You would probably benefit from putting a small fan in the garage somewhere to keep the air moving and mixing the hot air at the ceiling and cold air at the floor. Especially since your roof isn't insulated. All the hot air is going up there and right through the roof.
That’s a great idea. Thank you for commenting and sharing your idea
Ceiling fan!
Should of made a small lean to outside and just have the air come through the wall keep the noise out, I've had one a couple of years just lug a battery around where I've needed it but also have a small solar setup just for it any power cuts still got some heat power 👍🏽
Id us a wood burner fan (works from the heat of the heater and no electricity reqired). Got one on my wood burner, great item.
All i would do is run the hot air line under the work bench toward the bottom of the tool box so when it’s chilly out first thing that warms up is the pieces of steel you want to use to fix other projects.
Just use a 20k btu propane turbo heater, it will heat the whole garage in a couple of minutes without opening the door.
I was going to say the same thing. That little red contraption is frustratingly slow at bringing the temperature up.
That's a perfect use of the all-in-one diesel heaters. I follow several full-time RVers and they say to always run the heater on High for a few minutes before shutting it down. That will cause clean burning and help prevent gum ups.
Thank you for commenting and sharing your advice.
Rubbish.
Those heaters are legit. You can even burn in them 8-2 oil paraffin mix and still burn great.
you may regret touching the exhaust banadage with bare hands, usually there are gloves in the kit, the fibreglass fibres get into your skin and your hands can itch for days afterwards.
I did! This is my first time working with this product in my hands for itchy for a couple hours afterwards. Lesson learned 😂😂
I am in Ukraine and considering providing these to a few families but I have a few questions. Maybe you can answer for me.
Do you need to provide electricity the whole time you operate it or just to start it up? When the electrical grid goes down we won't have any electricity maybe for weeks in the dead of Winter (-15C approx.). Would a car battery do? How long might that last before it needs recharging? These are critical questions to know which direction to go for those in an apartment. They have enclosed balconies, so an exhaust hole can be made.
Yes 12 volts. It draws a little over 10amps on start up then 3-5 amps consistent.
You can run it off of a car battery, you could just run the power wires out to the car. Just be careful of how far down you run the car's battery. If you idle the car every few hours you could run it constantly. These will run on diesel or kerosene or even a 50/50+ mix of used oil and kerosene. That's what I'm running in mine. They'd probably run on cooking oil too but I haven't tried that yet
Yes they need power 2or3 batteries with solar panel will get through nicely
@paul felgate paul.anthony.felgate@gmail.com That's awesome. I didn't know that.
They burn a lot cleaner on kerosene and I can jet fuel at airport and they never get dirty if you run jet A fuel and kerosene works just as good jet a is just cleaner and mix it 50/50 with diesel to or pure diesel but once a month run kerosene to clean it up good and the last time you run it burn kerosene to clean it up.
Thanks for the vid but there is an excellent way to heat using those, The exhaust tube should be pointing sideways so the hot air can heat and rise across while warming more air at the floor, not sending the hot air right to the ceiling.
Thanks you for commenting. I'm looking at a few different ideas including a fan to circulate air around the garage. I did put the diffuser on since I did the video and it does work a bit better. I'm always looking for great ideas and modifications. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
My garage is same size as yours and using the same heater I am very pleased with the performance of this heater 2 years and I am hooking up a second 1 for back up . I am running a 20 gallon aluminum fuel tank that I top off with help from my friend at the trucking company using my 5 finger discount because they can't use the red diesel.
Thanks for commenting. I like the idea of a bigger tank.
Oh no, he put diesel in a red gasoline Jerry can! 😜 here's hoping you don't accidentally throw some in the lawn mower come spring. 😄
I now have a yellow can. 😂😂
Just bought one of these after watching hours of videos about them. You may want to change the green fuel line for the harder white fuel line that doesn't compress and therefore won't cause fuel flow problems.
You may also want an inline fuel filter, but of course you can filter the fuel when you top up.
With the fuel tank, the last litre of fuel is inaccessible due to the high point of the intake, so many people just tip the unit forward by having one leg taller than the other.
Cheers Paul :)
Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts. I'm getting a lot of great ideas from people. Thank you!
@@paulethier3416 My pleasure, lots of newcomers to this unit, it's getting very popular what with the rising cost of electricity and gas.
I like a filter on my fuel can too. And additional transparent one exiting the unit’s tank, allows any flow problems my visual examination.
@@samuelhmullins2170 Thanks Samuel.
Hi Paul, what would be the average running cost of the heather be please...and would recommend this particular model...thank you.
Good video, for the price they cant be beat, the run hotter with a kerosene diesel mix.
Just bought this same heater and it arrives next week. Appreciate this review! I have to say though, the best part of the video was watching your helpers! I have two all black GSDs and they help me with EVERYTHING. I'm sure they will be very instrumental in getting this heater up and running.
Never use a power supply ONLY - - - you ALSO *need* a battery, so the system can run its "shut down/cool down procedure" - - -
IF too many "hard kills" when you lose power - - & you'll fry the circuit board.
Ok thank you for the tip. I appreciate it.
The exhaust pipe must always go down for the moisture
Thank you for commenting and advice.
Put osb across the rafters so your ceiling is only at 9ish feet and you can heat it way more efficiently even if not insulated
Haha not sure why CHINA needs to be specified. Most of our things are from there. I guess shock value. I'll be the outlying voice. The things produced in China range in quality as much as things produced in the states.
Anyways, good review.
did more than one time bleeding fuel line become necessary??
I also do not recommend using this without a battery backup. There is a mandatory cooldown cycle to prevent damaging the machine. If the power cuts off, the machine won't be able to cool down properly.
Thanks for commenting. Others have made the same recommendation and I’m working on that.
The roof isnt insulated .,,.blastes the heat up at it 🤣 Man point the heat outlet at the stonefloor so the heat goes into the foor and stys in the room,.,.and not just piss's out the roof
Thanks for commenting. Since the video the duct now blows horizontally and I put a diffuser on it so it’s working better. I really just need to improve the insulation in the garage but that’s a project for another day. Even with the poor insulation it’s working good it was 13°F here today and that little heater kept the garage at 53° all day.
So many alternatives ways of burning, diesel heater, wood stove[free wood], coal burner[hard coal].
I'm only interesting in car without motor running, any good ideas running heat in the cars[tiny tiny stove with pellets exhaust pipe out of the car[any vehicles] during snow storm broken down .
Look at one woman died from zero temperature, no one can help.[upsetting me] any good ideas to tell me?
Since heat rises, aiming it blowing across the floor instead of at the uninsulated ceiling, will make heat better..
Thank you for commenting and sharing you thoughts.
It is desirable to run any of the 12v diesel heaters via a battery with a charger rather than a power supply. The heaters need to run a shut down cycle to cool the unit before they finaly shut down. If the 12 vollts is supplied via a mains unit and there is a mains power failure the cooling and shutting down procedure will not be initiated which could cause an undesirable overheating of the case and unit.
Ok thank you for your comment and experience. I’m thinking a small lawn tractor battery would work for that?
@@paulethier3416 it needs a deep cycle battery of 100ah
@@paulethier3416 i have mine on both a power supply and a little 150 cca lawn tractor battery in case the power goes out and it works great. but im always hear and the few times the power did go out i shut it right down. but if you wanted it to run for a while then yes a deep cycle would be better 👍
@@nextellcup8 Thank you for commenting and sharing. That's a great idea.
@@paulethier3416 Yes. A cheap $25 Walmart garden tractor battery will run it. But you can also add a small 5 amp battery charger to it to keep the battery topped off while its operating That way, if the power fails, you can shut the diesel heater down with the proper cool down cycle. I have been testing mine on a similar setup for almost 2 weeks. My biggest improvement was to add a 1/10th watt 12 volt LED bulb to the top of the fuel tank so I know 2 things...the fuel level and that it has power. ua-cam.com/video/sHCuztvBnWs/v-deo.html
The celcius temperature scale makes much more sense. We used to use Fahrenheit and I remember 70 degrees being pleasant but the other end (cold end of scale) I can't remember. ZERO degrees Celsius is freezing so it is easier to equate to!!
I keep my 20 x 20 garage with 13 feet ceiling toasty with the same machine. It works well. I recommend you run it at least 66% or above ti prevent carbon build up in the machine.
Thanks for commenting. I can hopefully get this garage sealed up and insulated this summer so it works even better. It was 13 degrees F here today and it kept the garage at 52 all day. I just need insulation and it will work great.
How much fuel does it burn a hour ?
Watching ole boy put that exhaust wrap on with no gloves I know his hands were hurting and itching the next day 🤣
At least a week
Itchy for sure 😂😂😂. First time I ever used the stuff. Lesson learned. Thanks for commenting.
If you have any kerosene lying around it'll run on that too.
Hertz is a measurement of cycles per second. I wonder if it is it measuring a fan speed or something?
Thats kinda what I was thinking but it also must control the flow of Diesel. Thanks for commenting.
Fuel pump
At least 50% of the heat is wasted through the exhaust pipe.
Wanna double the efficiency or have 10KW of heat on the same amount of fuel?
Put the unit inside and pipe the exhaust throuh a radiator with a 12V radiator fan end THEN out of the building.
These are basically just pistonless engines where they are barely 35% efficient unless you use the exhaust heat as well.
As mentioned in other comments hertz is pulses per minute for the fuel pump. In general, allow 40 btu/sqft for nominal insulated areas.
13×21x40 gives around 11,000btu or about 3.2 KW required input. Your unit is well within what will be required.
Diesel will generate about 40KW (137,000btu) per gallon. By knowing fuel pump flow (pulses) on can generally determine the hertz setting for fuel.
I have 2 of these units for several years. One is 8KW and a smaller 2-4KW.
Thank you for commenting. This is an 8Kw unit.
@@paulethier3416 There only 2 Size out there, "2kW" and "5 or 8kW" wich have only like 3,5-4kW real output power.
If you Multiply the Pump Frequency with 0,08 you get the Diesel consuption in Liter /h it is not 100% accurat but close.
But that is good to heat up a garage or a camping van.
do your tools rust?
This is my second winter and no issues yet. It's a dry heat. My windows don't even fog up. Thanks for the question.
How was the air quality?
Air quality is perfect and better than my old propane heater. No issues so far but I do have a CO detector just in case. Thank you for commenting.
how are the co2 and co levels !? or is that 100% safely blown out with the exhaust!?
No co or co2
Not very insulation is an under statement
Thanks for the comment. 1 1/2 walls are insulated. It’s a work in progress 😀
Thank you very much sir
You are welcome. Happy you enjoyed the video.
If I whas you I would put the outlet pipe down on the floor to spread the heat over the floor. Because the heat rises from the floor to the roof
For a little more you can get a diesel torpedo one with a warranty and run time is much less but good vidio
I added it to my Honda Pioneer. Heats the drafty cab quite nicely. Was -7 C outside and I had the cab at 13C in minutes. Worth every penney and easy to install.
That heater won't cut it when winter comes...
We will see.
Insulate the ceiling and it will do fine.
Noticed you filled your diesel heater fuel tank from a red fuel can. Why wasn’t it a yellow one that’s designated for diesel? Red is for gasoline. And blue is for kerosene (or water for some reason).
I didn’t have a diesel can at the time. It’s the only thing I have that runs on diesel. I have a yellow can now.
GET A Carbon monoxide alarm ASAP if you run one of these. if you don't have a Carbon monoxide alarm these Diesel heaters can kill you! its not a toy!
Got one. Thank you for the comment.
Burn old rubber tires like the Amish.
50 outside? You need heat? Lol
I was installing and testing its operation before winter.
Every one of these youtube videos always puts the air intake inside where it is not supposed to be. IT SHOULD PICK UP OUTSIDE AIR for combustion, or it will pull a vacuum in your heated space and cause cold air leaks everywhere. Another hole in the wall for the combustion hose would make a world of difference.
Thank you for commenting and advice.
Paul I think that you really need to move your flag you keep shutting your door on it other than great video 👍👍👍
100% right. Thank you, it is moved.
It's hurt so hurts one hurts equals one second so 1.2 Hz is 1.2 pulses per second Yes the point to makes it a little bit to where you have to do the math at 10 seconds or something to get how many pumps but also it's pumping point 22 ml per pump click
Thank you for the comment
Thanks Paul, just bought one myself. Nice dog!
Nice video. I hope you have a CO monitor....
Yes sir!
Great vid. Quick question. How is the boat vent exhaust fitting working out? Does it insulate the exhaust good enough from the hole in the wall. I am thinking of getting a heater but want to vent it through the wall and would like to know of the marine vent remains cool enough where it contacts the wall.
Cheers from Canada
It does but I wrapped it with the exhaust wrap where it goes through the wall. The wall is cool to touch with the additional wrap
Get some cheap laminate sheets to close off your rafter space if you aren't trying to add insulation.
That’s a great idea and I plan to do something this summer once I get the jeep out of the garage and can move around a little bit.
i have the same heater from vevor.
it is fine. but the biggest issue is it takes forever to heat room since all the tools, brick walls, floors pull alot of heat away. that boy takes couple of hours
I have one too. What I do is run an unvented propane heater for about ten minutes to get it up to temp them use the diesel or electric heater to keep it warm.
You can get hot air blower made specifically for garages and shops. A lot safer... Or outside wood burner in shack outside and pump hot water to radiators... A lot safer....
Thank you for commenting.
I wonder if you can run this off a regular car battery?.
Yes, they are designed to run off a battery.
@@paulethier3416 awesome, I just bought one.
Dose that one not have the thermostat setting?
No it’s a hertz setting
run to home cheapo and get some insulation for that ceiling and youll see a huge difference
Eventually. This was just to get me through this winter.
Great video, you must starte at the highest setting for vest running ,than lowered a little. If you don't run on HIGH it gets all foul up.
Yes I typically start out on high, lower it as needed and the run it on low for a bit before I shut it down. So far it’s running perfect
It will still do its cool down shut down period on mains just turn it off on the control panel and let it run through ignore the other comments of needing a battery long has you don't shut main power switch off and just switch off from the panel on the diesel heater
Yes, I always us the control panel. Thank you for commenting.
the reason i added a battery is if there is a power failure. i’ve had 3 this past week with my heater on high.
YEAH YOU DID!!!!
I would not face that output pipe facing up as if anything fell in to it your fan could be damaged. just an observation
I’ve moved it down horizontally and put the diffuser on.

can it use highway diesel?
Yes
@@paulethier3416 nice. Thanks
Be careful with the exhaust creating a snow cave and pushing Co back into the garage. You may be better with a diy mini split the bonus is you get a/c in the summer.
I was thinking mini split. I have them in the house. This is hopefully temp until I can do some renovations but prices are so hi right now so we will see.
Banned.... Because set your house on fire. ..
The way the fuel prices are going I was really interested in this, maybe heat my house. I mean, 8KW is enough right ? Anyway the price of diesel in UK is around £1.80 per liter. So that means around 10 litres a day (12 hours) at a cost of £22.44p. Wow, if my gas bill cost that much I would be bankrupt. Is my maths wrong...no idea, I pulled it from a test on another video.
Other reviews I have seen suggest a run of around 10 hours per litre of fuel. Hope this is correct
@@Westexec that's much better, wondered what the point was at that cost.
if it’s marked 8kw its false advertising . the CDH are only 2 and 5kw 👍
You can buy 500ltr of heating oil in (Home fuels) UK at 88p per ltr approx £448 and store in a 600ltr IBC at a burn rate of 1ltr every 4hrs that should run 12hrs per day from OCT to MARCH. if you run the exhaust gas out but through a standard radiator first you can reclaim a lot of the exhaust heat. Make sure you drain condensation from radiator regularly.

Can't wait to try.
In one of the other youtube vids I watched, they showed how to change from pulse hz to temperature.
Of course I can't find it right now. But if you set the temp. to a certain value, the unit will run until it reaches that value, then idle back.
Thank you. Good to know.
