Darjeeling was captured by Nepal from Sikkim and British brought back the lost Sikkim back to the King of Sikkim.In 1839 British General Lloyd got Darjeeling as a gift from Raja of Sikkim.
Not gift. Sikkim king gifted only Darjeeling area which is today's darjeeling town. Later British annexed whole region upto terai Siliguri n gave it darjeeling dist name. Before Nepal, sikkim it was part of limbu kirat kingdom from ancient time upto 1642 n when it was part of sikkim it was looked after by limboo tribal chiefs ( low hill n terai ) n lepcha tribal chiefs( high hill ) . Cuz Sikkim ruling class tibbetan never reached low hill n Terai region directly.
East Nepal n sikkim was from same kirat civilisation n belonged to same tribes limboo, lepcha, Rai, sunuwar, yakkha, magar divided by Indian( pahadi rajpoot ) who r founder of today's nepal n tibbetan who r founder of today's Sikkim.
FAISANS' PLEASE, IT WAS NOT GIFTED BUT LEASED. SIKKIMESE KING COLLECTED ANNUAL FEE UPTO 1861 THEN THE BRITISH WON IN SHORTEST SKIRMISHES THE REST OF THE HILLS AS WELL AS SILIGURI Tarai upto Mechi Border. Then in 1865 the British attacked Bhutan and retrieved current Kalimpong and Dooars which Bhutan had encroached from Sikkim in 1707. Let us not forget these important historical facts which will definitely help in either REUNIFICATION with the mainland Sikkim or separation from illegal colonisation by Bengal.
Kalimpong was originally part of sikkim from 1642 foundation of Sikkim monarch. In 1700 Bhutan invaded it n in 1865 British invaded from Bhutan. It's originally belonged to lepcha. During 1700 to 1865 dukpa bhutias settled before British annexed. Darjeeling had interference of lepcha n limboo n kursyang was dominated by limboo historically before Nepal n Bhutan annexed parts of Sikkim. Beside there r some Magars expelled by tibbetan to present east Nepal for resisting formation of Sikkim a Buddhist monarch in their land shared with lepcha n limboo.
