I lived in Gangtok during my teen years. Never have I felt that safe in my life. You can walk any time of the day without any eve teasing or crazy people. We absolutely need more of these people.
And that's why there won't be any people left if they don't start breeding now ....everything natural happens for a reason and has nothing to do with women empowerment because a mother having two children can also be empowered
@Audiophile-bx6ph Why do you think every woman owes a child to the country? It is their personal choice to have or not have a kid. Is it too much to ask for a peaceful 90 years lifespan, if that is THEIR definition of peace? Why does lineage matter so much? Do you even know the name of your great-grandfather? Why do you think your great-grandson will know your name? How is your existence better than mine then, if we both are gonna forgotten in 200 years. There are many research papers published that proves that marriage doesn't increase our happiness and difference between married and non-married people in terms of happiness is not there. If you want to breed, go ahead, be the next Vicky donor. If someone doesn't want to, let them be. Don't try to force your ideologies on everybody.

16:07 I am from Sikkim working as an IEC and a mental health counselor under Sikkim Health dept. We are told to encourage communities to have more kids. But I think this is here where the problem lies. The paid maternity leave for a year sounds really good but since the paternity leave is only for a month most men are out of their house to carry on with their lives just after a month leaving the child solely for mothers to take care. Mind you, most men are posted in a different districts and because of the terrain and climate they cannot work from home and have to live separately close to their jobs. Now this leaves women solely alone with the child with no breaks or turns. These are women also taking care of husbands family, with a child, alone. I cannot imagine how mentally frustrating that must be. By saying that it isn't like the husband doesn't help, most men here help their wives with house chores and taking care of the child. But because it's a systemic flaw they won't be of much help.
There are districts in UP and other States that are far bigger than the state of Sikkim. Being posted anywhere within the state of Sikkim is comparable to being posted in one’s home district in larger states. Yet a single Budaun Administrative Block in UP had a population of about 5 Lakhs and Sikkim as a state has a population of about 7 lakhs.

Balance is needed in every field Low population or high population both have bad effects on our future People need to understand that it is not only mother's responsibility to take care of child if the family is supportive and male partner is their to help then female can do both job and take care of child I think the pressure of both job and child is one of the major reason that female don't want to carry child
Low birth rate isn't bad. See the more the girl children you bring to world the more lives you expose to misogyny which is almost inevitable and its in the air. So of women are having less kids then that means less lives will have to put up with this sick world.
Yes. The sustainable fertility rate is 2.1 and it is also called the equilibrium replacement rate. We should aim to continuously keep our fertility rate around 2.1 forever.
@@NityaStriker 2.1 fertility rate is not sustainable. It just maintains the population as it is. But the problem is, India's population right now is VERY poor. Our GDP per capita is $2k, compared to over $40k in the developed world. In other words, an average Indian consumes 1/20th of the resources consumed by a first world citizen. Hence we eat less (and lower quality) food, live in smaller houses, drive smaller vehicles, use less fuel and electricity, buy less clothes etc etc. If the average indian started living like the average American, the world economy and environment would collapse. Because there isn't enough resources on the planet to support that. Therefore, our population needs to be much lower than it is right now for our standard of living to rise to first world levels. And for that rise to be sustainable. Hence, fertility rate needs to go much below 2.1, but slowly and steadily. A sudden collapse (like the Chinese one-child policy) would obviously be disastrous.
But why women need to do job. Just because foriegners say that. Something are just like a trend. These trend are not correct. There is always two side. Getting women work also has two sides. Its not like only one side is just correct.
@@Shiva-zj6od for the same reason as anyone needs to do a job. If you didn't have a job, you'd have to rely on someone else to feed you. If that person got sick or injured, you'd both starve to death. If that person died, again you'd starve. Even if that person was alive and well, they'd have an inordinate amount of power over your life. If you lived your entire life on your brother's income, your brother would be able to decide what you eat, what you wear, where you go and so forth. Now, if you have an absolutely fantastic brother who loves you to death, that might not be a problem (though you'd still starve if he died). But if your brother was even slightly controlling or egotistical, that would lead to a very miserable life for you. Even stupider would be to bring a child into this miserable and precarious equation, which is usually what happens when people get married. Hence, don't risk starvation or abuse. Learn to feed yourself - both by earning the money to buy your own food and then learning to cook that food yourself.

Total respect to you and your team man Indian education mentality should be changed and guided properly if not the whole young generation will just became a burden to a country
Agree 💯 Don’t just focus on population growth when you’re unable to provide stable job and housing for the current lot. Most mainlanders also do not understand that cost of living and ordinary things are more than double the price than the rest of the country. First fix the problem at hand, then bring in the next generation so that they are grateful to be born here
Exactly! Even in the policies the government have given only 1 month of paternity leave, indirectly implying that men don't need to rear the children they sire!! I would have applauded more if they made 1 yr of paternity leave which starts after the end of maternity leave! Because the child is weaned and can move about - men can and should be able to take care of them!! Just giving 1 month is like babysitting leave!!!
I don't think declining population is the biggest problem of the world, It is the inequality and poverty that is the biggest problem. Shouldn't we make sure that the people who are alive and people who will be born in the future have a better quality of life instead of making more people for the sake of keeping the pyramid scheme that is the insustainable infinite growth model of capitalism going?

We not only have to increase education, we also have to increase education quality. And skill-set. I didn't know how to read till my 9th and still find it difficult to read Hindi.(dyslexic). I found UA-cam to be very helpful, and due to that I was able to read and write.
Kind of strange I thought dyslexic people can't communicate fluently in any language. But now searched on net and found one can be dyslexic in one language and fluent in the other. Well leave that aside Are you not getting proper medical treatment in special schools ment for dyslexic kids
That is indeed a very real concern! Kids aren't economically feasible is what I keep saying 😅 but people get overtly emotional when it's comes to marriage and kids - and emotions as we know are enemy of logic and pragmatism. If government rolls out certified child care centres and helps with regulating our education industry then I believe I will encourage people to plan accordingly!!!
Till now it had been discussed that overpopulation is an issue in India and now it's completely opposite, concept is quite perplexing, however thanks mr. Mohak for resolving the dilemmas.
last year i visited Sikkim and i got so attached to that place that i really really wanted to live there but that's only possible if i study in any Sikkim college but unfortunately they do not have good colleges :( but Sikkim is very beautiful, i loved everything about that place. currently im hoping to visit again this year 🥺🫶🏼💕
the concern is valid, but as a woman, I am concerned that my life will go downhill, just like most of my friends' lives did after getting pregnant and having children. I think with all these efforts we also need a change in the old mindsets. if we as i society progress in accommodating our views with the growing changes then this fear of degradation of life will slowly go away. japan and all these countries with declining populations are still quite strict about how things need to be in the family, which is simply not compatible in this fast-paced world.
Exactly. Women need to prioritise themselves. Fathers are not ATM. Fathers need to step up parenting and be equal parents and take down the burden of their wives
Many western women are dying to have traditional roles and you are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Learn from mistakes. Be traditional woman. Otherwise it is you who will suffer.
Im from sikkim but just for the fact that Sikkim first belonged to LEPCHA community who called our state Nye-mae-el(meaning paradise) there were LIMBOO community who gave the name Su Khim or `new house' now called sikkim after that the bhutia community ruled sikkim their kings were recognised by the name 'chogyal' they stated sikkim as DENZONG (Meaning rice valley) then there are nepalis but we all are sikkimese as this is our origin❤. In actual 4 communities are here in sikkim BHUTIAS ,LEPCHAS, LIMBUS AND NEPALIES due to some reason Limbus are not recognised individually (im still working on what could be actual reason and researching on sikkims history) whatever be the history we give hands to eachother making life a bit easier ❤
Maybe because in the lho men tsong sum treaty it was stated that community from bhutia(lho) men(lepcha) and tsong(limbu) would live in harmony and acknowledge the rule of chogyal as legitimate and there won't fight between them but when gorkha invasion of sikkim limbos sided with gorkha that's why in current time limbu tribe is mingled with nepali community when talked about
A sudden collapse won't be disastrous, China's economy was unsustainable from the start as were most the economies of the world. They are based on a pyramid scheme (they run on debt), they were designed when people were having more than 4 kids, so there was a surplus of young people, now they have started to run out of cogs. Now it's all based on demand and supply, and with less people the demand would go down, so the prices and supply would go down therefore less tax would be generated. So we need a new economic system.
If male partner divides the household work and child care which will reduce her stress and can make convenient for the lady.. We just need change of mentality then also problem can be solved .

Mohak, also not all religious groups in India are having even TFR. Though Muslims in India have the highest fertility rate, yet their TFR is reducing the fastest. TFR of Other religious groups like Zoroastrians, Jains, Buddhists(basically all religious groups other than Hindus & Muslims) are really low! Really a big concern for India
Given the advancements in AI I don't think having a big population would be necessary in future unless we need workers for physical labour. That too may also become automated in future so having less fertility rate is good.
But who will be the consumer, in a world of shrinking population For whom goods and services will be produced I personally think europian countries will find a way to tackle population problem but counties like korea, china and japan will collapse
Japanese has used automation the most in the world, yet it’s economy hasn’t grown since 1995. The reason is aging population as older people do not buy new technology and continue with old technology so there’s no profits to be made from newer technologies in aging countries. Also aging workforce means that Japan’s innovation will decrease and Japan has recently been outcompeted by populous China in vehicle exports and will lose market share in automobile industry.
Without ppl working and consuming, economy collapses, automation and AI are true but they also need to create new jobs and otherwise, yes, population collapse may lead to slow extinction for humanity.

Insightful
Isn't the major working population females there...
There are districts in UP and other States that are far bigger than the state of Sikkim. Being posted anywhere within the state of Sikkim is comparable to being posted in one’s home district in larger states. Balance is needed in every field
Low population or high population both have bad effects on our future
People need to understand that it is not only mother's responsibility to take care of child if the family is supportive and male partner is their to help then female can do both job and take care of child
I think the pressure of both job and child is one of the major reason that female don't want to carry child

"Lest the young generation become old before becoming rich".
😟😔🥺😢😞
A sudden collapse won't be disastrous, China's economy was unsustainable from the start as were most the economies of the world.
They are based on a pyramid scheme (they run on debt), they were designed when people were having more than 4 kids, so there was a surplus of young people, now they have started to run out of cogs.
Now it's all based on demand and supply, and with less people the demand would go down, so the prices and supply would go down therefore less tax would be generated.

Bringing people from other states won't be a good idea because that dilutes a culture.
It is true. But then a time will come when there won't be people left to uphold that unique cultural identities
Yes bro
people do adopt culture of the place where they settle in, and add a few of their own to it. "Dilution" is happening for centuries now, and it's natural that it will happen more in the times of easy mobility. I would call it "enrichment", not "dilution"

Respect for citizens of Sikkim !
Given the advancements in AI I don't think having a big population would be necessary in future unless we need workers for physical labour. That too may also become automated in future so having less fertility rate is good.
But who will be the consumer, in a world of shrinking population
For whom goods and services will be produced
I personally think europian countries will find a way to tackle population problem but counties like korea, china and japan will collapse
@@mjmjmhjgfgji6966
Not necessarily collapse yar
I love the point k who will be the consumer then
Japanese has used automation the most in the world, yet it’s economy hasn’t grown since 1995.
@@mjmjmhjgfgji6966 I don't think consumption would be a problem as long as there is a population to suck out money from companies will still make money somehow. But yes some companies will collapse.

Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have the most perfect fertility rate for a stable population 👏👏
Good research by team Mohak, also there are other parameters like lack to proper medical facilities and over abuse of drugs / alcohol in the young population which also reduces the fertility. Even Gangtok lacks good doctors, hospitals and people are forced to seek medical care from WB or other states in India which not everyone living with a frugal salary can manage.

A small correction, Bhutias came from Bhutan not tibet. Also you cannot compare Sikkim with Manipur. Culture is altogether different in sikkim. Manipur always had problems. In sikkim all 3 tribes Nepali, Bhutia and Lepcha are living together peacefully since last so many decades. I lived in sikkim for 8 months, people are kind and peaceful.
Nah bhutias migrated from Tibet during 13th century after clashes between red hats and yellow hats sects in Tibet their leader khye bhumsa was a prince of western xia(tangut dynasty/minyak) he and his family migrated and settled in chumbi valley because his father saw a vision of his descendants ruling denjong (valley of rice of Tibetan name of sikkim)and his great grandson was phuntsok namgyal and was crowned as chogyal of sikkim by three great lama from north east west and south regions of tibet searching for him due to his great great grandfather's prophecy

Population decline is a major problem across the world developed world.
Countries like Germany, Japan and even USA are facing major workforce shortages.
In many developed countries, government provide s loads of financial and practical incentives for people to have more babies.
China is the only country that managed to achieve this without becoming a developed country though 😜
P.S. - I do not mean to say too much population is a good thing. It is important to have a "Steady & balanced" population level for any society/ country.
