Sad news guys Brian Humphries the sound engineer on Wish you were here, sadly passed away on 29th May 2024 !! My neighbour and friend will be sorely missed !😢😞😞
That’s a real shame. On a positive note if there is one, his work will last forever in this music, something that few people will have after they have passed away. He has left his mark on humanity.
It was written and dedicated to the original singer, Sid Barrett. Sid suffered from schizophrenia, and the band watched as Sid slowly lost his battle of being able to distinguish what was and wasn't reality (this is my understanding from a very in depth documentary of the band). It was a tribute to Sid and their way of expression at the loss of their friend. Wish you were here...
@@joehaller5155 yeah, im pretty sure theres a story of him walking into the recording studio when they were working on Animals (ive been informed its WYWH), and he was completely unrecognisable, it took them tens of minutes to work out who it was, then they basically never saw him again

Keep in mind when you're reacting to songs from the 70's, for the most part, we had no video's then. They were meant to just listen to(usually stoned), but listen to anyway. Most of the video's you see were added later, usually by fans, seldom by the bands themselves. That's why so many (often) are live, as that's the only times they were filmed. There are exceptions of course, like some Bowie or Beatles songs etc.. but they were cutting edge and the beginning of the rock video phenomena, which really didn't start in earnest until MTV in the early 80's. Just keep loving the music and lyrics, that's what it's all about.
Sounds like you lived the 70's like me... Perfectly describes it ... but we had Casey Kasem and Dick Clark.. Then the Midnight Special on TV. And Johnny Carson bringing on a band on occasion or waiting for Rock n Roll New Years Eve on tv... when MTV and cable was not even a thought of yet.
The pulse concert is unbelievably good. The version of comfortably numb they do in that concert may be one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. The guitar solo in that is epic.
The big problem for me with that Pulse concert performance is the handling of the Roger Waters vocal parts, where they used multiple vocalists singing harmony, this kind of ruins the whole performance for me, I just can't get past it. I much prefer a later live version of David Gilmour's with Chuck Leavell doing the Roger Water parts, I am definitely in the minority on this though.

I lost my brother to suicide two years ago. He loved Pink Floyd and this song was played at his funeral. I miss him so much and wish he was still here.
Years ago, my 23-year-old younger brother looked at me, smiled, and took off the top of his head right in front of me with a 357 Mag. He wasn't just my brother; he was my best friend. I have been through many things that hurt, but I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy. I'm so sorry.
The only Pink Floyd video that is an absolute must see is Echoes Live at Pompeii. They play live in an empty ruin of a coliseum in Pompeii Italy. A fantastic live performance.

Ok, 1st don't be insecure!! Not all of us are aholes... The rest of us will stick up for you. 2nd, one of the stories that came out about this - and many of their songs - is that it's about Syd Barrett who was a founding member. He has a tragic story of mental illness. 3rd, most of us were stoned listening to Pink Floyd. So some of us might regress to saying 'Dude....' the rest of the day. Lol
I cannot believe this is your introduction song to Pink Floyd. This is the greatest band that ever existed. It's a great song and demonstrates their depth. There is so much out there by them. “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year. Running over the same old ground, what have we found, the same old fears, wish you were here” I quoted this portion of the song for several years after my mother died in 1989 and it was just my father and I living on in the same house where my mother once was. This part digs deep, not just deep, but into a whole new level of depth. R.I.P. mom 9-13-1989 You are truly missed my best friend 😞🙏🙏💔
Pink Floyd is my favorite band. I have seen them four times live. I have seen so many concerts in the 62 years I have been alive, but I have never seen anyone perform better than they do. This song always hits me hard. I lost my brother to suicide a few years after we saw Pink Floyd in concert, and this song always brings back good and very bad memories.
Some of the greatest lyrics ever written. "Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage." This line means so much...did you exchange a role where you made a difference, even a small one, to become the star only within your own prison. It really focuses on what is meaningful and what isn't.
Substance of choice, music of choice. Back in the day this was as close as I could get to heaven. Hands feeling like they are tied to 2 balloons.........those were the days
David does exact guitar solo at the Pompeii show...and is more incredible because he's that much older and still killing it. The back up singers ,other musicians the historical site makes for my favorite show of theirs...
The Pulse Concert is something to see it’s absolutely brilliant and amazing. Listening to Pink Floyd is an experience you will never forget. David Gilmour’s guitar solos will blow you away.
heres a challenge for you. listen to the entire album start to finish. its dedicated to syd barret - founding member of pink floyd. he was late for rehearsal following the success of dark side of the moon. tragically he was located at the commune were he lived ,had taken a large dose of LSD and was lost in his own head and never fully recovered. the album hits about the presures of the music industry and how it uses up young artists !
Nothing better than Pink Floyd, they are at the very top of my list Comfortably Numb, Us and Them, High Hopes, anything on Division Bell🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
When Pink Floyd hit us all in the early 70s it was mind blowing! One thing you learned early on was to just go with the feeling of the music and not to dissect it too death! After the 100th listen you have an idea of what it all means to you! Pink Floyd, Moody Blue's, Led Zeppelin those of us that were lucky enough to be in the right place and time for all this truly great music and the culture know how to appreciate it all. Or at least most of us do! It's just so great to witness some of it to start over again when people are exposed to it all again! As long as there are new ears to hear and minds and hearts to understand and appreciate it!
Anything from Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You were Here and the Wall is fire. Anything from the Pulse concert and Great Gig in the Sky from the Delicate Sound of Thunder video, with Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom, and Margaret Taylor singing.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest bands. The older I get(52), the more this song means to me...too many friends are no longer around to listen to it.
All through the 60's in my house we mostly listened to Top 40 oriented music. Then in the early 70's my dad upgraded the system and we discovered album oriented FM radio and my life change forever. The golden age of music had arrived and we had so many choices of genres and artists without corporate dictators saying how long a song could be, what subjects were appropriate, which album cuts would be played. Artists like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, CSN&Y, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and too many to name would have an entire album played on the radio uninterrupted. My most treasured possession when I moved into the dorm in college was my (very cheap) turn table. This was the soundtrack of our lives and we still travel in the sonic time machine back to those days. Welcome to the party.
Sid Barrett who founded Pink Floyd as a psychedelic rock band unfortunately suffered from schizophrenia that was exacerbated by drug use. Not just this song, but the entire “Wish You Were Here” album is dedicated to him after he was unable to continue with the band. You should also check out “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” from the same album.
My favorite line in this song is “did you exchange, A walk on part in the war, For a lead role in a cage” I feel this line when I head into work in the morning sometimes lol
You are such a lucky Man to get to listen to all of the Magical PF tracks for the first time … and then over and over for the rest of your life ! Congratulations !! 🎉 ⭐️
This song has all the connotations of loss, grim reminders of friends and loved ones who took the final step to bring about the end. And wondering what their final last thoughts were as they succumbed to darkness.
Peg reacting to Floyd is gold. When someone asks me who I think were the greatest rock bands, I tell them this. Zep, Floyd, Rush, Sabbath, and Purple were all above number one. After those 5, we can discuss who is number one. Maybe Beatles, the Stones, the Who, maybe Metallica?
The Beatles are the greatest band. Greatest Rock band maybe not.... greatest pop band...maybe not...psychedelic band...folk rock band...maybe not...overall though They stand above all those youve mentioned outside of genre
Music, at it's best, expresses glimpses of truth that language alone can not. A closer look at the bricks that build up the wall and excellence that brings the generations together is why music from this era is my favorite.
I lost my close friend Jimmy “Pink “ Floyd on graduation weekend 1995 . Over the past 29 years whenever I’m going through something , this song comes on . I feel it’s his spirit telling me it’ll all be all right.
My dad told me when you listen to Pink Floyd, you just lay back, close your eyes and let the music flow through you. It's just a peaceful relaxing mellow time. Please do more of Pink Floyd
You have to do "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". The whole album really. Because when you learn it's about how the music industry affected founding Pink Floyd member and friend Syd Barrett's mental health, it's made all the more heartbreaking and almost makes you angry.
i was balling in tears watching this reaction, listening to this song again, taking it in, and seeing someone else being able to experience this profound experience for the first time. As I did through you. thank you for this brother, i needed it
I will be 62 next Friday, June 28th, and I LOVE Pink Floyd. I introduced my granddaughter to them in when she was 4. She loved to yell "Vera" to the song. "Vera". It's from the album "the Wall". Here is a little info on that song. "Vera is a beautiful and poignant tribute to Vera Lynn, a British singer whose songs provided comfort and solace during World War II. Listening to “Vera,” one can’t help but feel a deep connection with the past and the struggles faced by those during times of war. The song captures the essence of longing for a brighter future, where loved ones can be reunited once again. (Writer Unknown). If you want a couple more to react to I recommend, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and Comfortably Numb, they are in my top 10. Thanks! Beth Ann
Don’t listen to what people say. This is your show. Do you bro. It’s the music. Floyd is one of the best bands ever. Dive deep. Listen to time next. You might cry. Lol
Pink Floyd was phenomenal for many reasons, and pretty much any live performance (esp the Pulse tour, esp "Comfortably Numb") is worth watching. As a musician, you'll like that Pink Floyd played the first surround sound concert in May 1967, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. They changed the experience of attending concerts forevermore. 💛
The song is beautiful. Waters said this about writing the song; It’s to encourage myself not to accept a lead role in a cage, but to go on demanding of myself that I keep auditioning for the walk-on part in the war, ‘cause that’s where I want to be. I wanna be in the trenches. I don’t want to be at headquarters; I don’t wanna be sitting in a hotel somewhere. I wanna be engaged.”
Pink Floyd is just one of those few bands... The Wall will forever be my favorite album/s from them but they did very good, solid, honest and beautiful work afterwards!... And there's no way anyone can deny it!
I get so emotional listening to this song, it's so beautiful and the acoustic guitar is gorgeous. There are so many wonderful Pink Floyd songs, another one which means a lot to me is 'High Hopes', a live version from the Pulse concert is fabulous. The Pulse concert from 1994 must have been fantastic to attend and the song 'Comfortably Numb' from there has got one of the best guitar solos ever from David Gilmour, I think you would love it! Another one is 'Sorrow' from the same concert, the guitar sounds are incredible.
Growing up in the 70's was slow, you didn't have cable TV you hung out with your friends and listened to albums. Your take about kicking back and just chilling to this song is accurate. Cable TV and the internet ruined everything. These bands like Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, the list was endless and a great song was not enough, the album had to have multiple quality/great songs. Neil Young -Harfest Moon, you could stay in the 70's with endless quality music. Even the 80's started to get commercialized with hair bands. But the 70's had quality lyrics and story tellers of all genres, like Yacht Rock, Hard Rock, Folk, Soul, Country, R&B. I think it's the greatest era for music, it was endless
When life is kicking my butt, I listen to Floyd. Their music makes things easier. I put on Dark side of the Moon, and listen until whatever is stressing me goes away. This has kept me sorta sane throughout the years
If you check out anymore by Pink Floyd, please react to Comfortably Numb Live Pulse Concert 1994. An incredible performance and one of the best electric guitar solos that I've ever watched.
This has been my favorite Pink Floyd album ever since it first came out (yeah I'm that old). I've seen Pink Floyd in concert 3 times in Detroit. The 1st time still ranks as the best concert I've ever seen. It, as mention before, is about Syd Barrett.
There is never a wrong version of pink Floyd to watch. Great reaction as always, if you want to watch them live try 'Comfortably Numb' >ua-cam.com/video/7kWl-ZGMwkQ/v-deo.html from their 1994 Pulse Concert and from the same concert 'The Great gig in the Sky'.

“We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year. Running over the same old ground, what have we found, the same old fears, wish you were here”
I quoted this portion of the song for several years after my mother died in 1989 and it was just my father and I living on in the same house where my mother once was.
This part digs deep, not just deep, but into a whole new level of depth.

You are truly missed my best friend 😞🙏🙏💔
Pink Floyd is one of the GOAT bands. Brilliant, timeless, one of a kind. Welcome to the World.
Anything from the Pulse concert is FIRE!
Some of the greatest lyrics ever written.
"Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage."
This line means so much...did you exchange a role where you made a difference, even a small one, to become the star only within your own prison. It really focuses on what is meaningful and what isn't.
I saw it this way as well.
Substance of choice, music of choice. Back in the day this was as close as I could get to heaven. Hands feeling like they are tied to 2 balloons.........those were the days
Nothing is better than Floyd when you need to just make it through one more day
next one from Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb ( live to Pulse concert 1994 ) = best live guitar solo .🎸🎶🎶
Sid was out of his head and out of the band in 1968 way before Dark Side of the Moon, 5 years before.
But you can never say it was David's band cause everyone knows it was Syd's 💯
Different vibration is a very accurate description for Pink Floyd. You are getting it.
I'm so glad that I grew up with this music... best bands and music ever
Pink Floyd are the gangsters of music. Fact 💯
My favorite line in this song is
“did you exchange,
A walk on part in the war,
For a lead role in a cage”
I feel this line when I head into work in the morning sometimes lol
You are such a lucky Man to get to listen to all of the Magical PF tracks for the first time … and then over and over for the rest of your life ! Congratulations !! 🎉 ⭐️
Pink Floyd was my parents favorite band which I listened to since birth. It’s been my favorite also and now it’s my daughters.
They're not in the same fishbowl. Everyone lives in their own bubble until they remember to be 'here' in the present.
Tool belongs in the conversation. Queen gets a mention too
Peg pegging and getting pegged
The Beatles are the greatest band. Greatest Rock band maybe not.... greatest pop band...maybe not...psychedelic band...folk rock band...maybe not...overall though They stand above all those youve mentioned outside of genre
Yes Beatles, then Zep for forever...Bowie I think 3rd
You forgot Black Sabbath. Pink Floyd is still #1
Music, at it's best, expresses glimpses of truth that language alone can not.
PINK FLOYD ....THIS IS A VERY DEEEEEP HOLE TO DIVE INTO BRO....KEEP GOING....SO SIMPLE BUT SO MEANINGFUL...
Goosebumps when the vocals start. After all these years.
You have to do "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". The whole album really. Because when you learn it's about how the music industry affected founding Pink Floyd member and friend Syd Barrett's mental health, it's made all the more heartbreaking and almost makes you angry.
Second verse all the trade offs describe exchanging excitement and freedom for security and peace.
Very relevant still today
i was balling in tears watching this reaction, listening to this song again, taking it in, and seeing someone else being able to experience this profound experience for the first time. As I did through you. thank you for this brother, i needed it
One of the most beautiful songs ever
Thanks! Beth Ann
Pink Floyd is a one of a kind music mood! When I’m in that zone nothing can replace their music. Comfortably Numb is a must listen!
Don’t listen to what people say. This is your show. Do you bro. It’s the music. Floyd is one of the best bands ever. Dive deep. Listen to time next. You might cry. Lol
Every time I hear this song I can't help but think back to special people I've lost. Beautiful song.
Ahhh Floyd, music for the soul. Im loving your journey into some of the greatest music created
Waters said this about writing the song;
It’s to encourage myself not to accept a lead role in a cage, but to go on demanding of myself that I keep auditioning for the walk-on part in the war, ‘cause that’s where I want to be. I wanna be in the trenches. I don’t want to be at headquarters; I don’t wanna be sitting in a hotel somewhere. I wanna be engaged.”
There is no wrong Pink Floyd song. They are all so incredible.
Anyone who loves music loves pink floyd. Saw them at joe robbie stadium 20 yrs ago. It's an experience
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here is one of their greatest albums in my opinion
One of my fave Pink Floyd songs.
Definitely one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. My main favorites you should check out are Comfortably Numb and Time.
Great Band great song, My all time 2nd favorite ever! From a 66 yo guy!
I'm 67 and still listen every day
Growing up in the 70's was slow, you didn't have cable TV you hung out with your friends and listened to albums.
The kid in the video for Another brick in the wall was doing the lyrics from their song Money off Dark side of the moon album.
The ultimate vibe, vibing, vibration band
Fact😊
BP, you absolutely must react to " Mother" by Pink Floyd.
Yes, the live version from The Wall tour :)))
@@NorwayMan36 , Absolutely
This has been my favorite Pink Floyd album ever since it first came out (yeah I'm that old). I've seen Pink Floyd in concert 3 times in Detroit. The 1st time still ranks as the best concert I've ever seen. It, as mention before, is about Syd Barrett.
Ohhhh a but of P.F!!! You need a blunt or mushy tea while watching these 😆 🤣 😂
Firing up the bong rt this moment
My favorite work from Pink Floyd! Classic!
Yes. And "Wish You Were Here" from the Pulse concert is also amazing.
Wish You Were Here was my daughter's favorite song when she was 3 yrs. old back in 1993, and now she'll be 34 yrs.old in 2 days. Thank you for this reaction, if you wanna check out more of them try Mother, you'd really like that song.
