  • The ESV Heritage was a game changing layout. It gave us a personal size, with a large print, and a wide margin. Truly remarkable. The big issue was that few could afford it. That is no longer the case. For under $50 you can get the same layout, with great paper, minus a few options. Crossway didn’t have to do this, but they did. And for that I say THANK YOU!

    Yes! The ESV Heritage is my favorite layout of any ESV Bible and one of my favorite layouts of any Bible! It's awesome thst Crossway has both premium and affordable editions of the Heritage now. 😊

    I recently bought this and am so happy with it! I'd never tried single column or black letter until fairly recently. I can't understand why, but it is SO much easier on my aging eyes! The print size and minimal ghosting are also perfect for me. I don't think I can ever go back. In fact, if I can find a large print ESV compact that has black letter instead of red, I may end up donating my beloved older one. I know everyone is different. But for me, black letter and / or single column have been a game changer.

    I’d love to see the King James in this layout. The ESV Heritage looks like the best paragraph reader.

    Agreed. I have the Prussian Blue and absolutely love it. But that cheaper option is fantastic for someone that wants to try out an ESV and never has. Amazing text block.

    I no longer read the ESV on a regular basis (but I still use the study bible every now and then). But it still amazes me how Crossway cannot get the quality & quantity of ribbons right, lol. It's baffling.
    As for the actual Bible, it's a nice option for ESV fans who don't want to break the bank so kudos for that.

    Wow! That Tru-toned version looks beautiful!
    The pages in the Premium version look like more of a cream color to me than the Tru-Tone version, or maybe it just shows up that way on the video.

    The shipping weight pressure causes roughies to smooth out. Sit it under a Strong's for a few days.

    This really looks beautiful. I think I want one. Thanks for showing it. I was looking at their website and realised that they has quietly added a few more cover options to their line up on some of their Bibles. I wish they would offer the single column verse by verse preaching Bible in a Trutone cover as well update their verse by verse reference Bible because the one they have (currently only offered in top grain leather) isn't line matched. For my purposes Crossway makes Bibles that I really like. Pity Thomas Nelson doesn't. Al their Bibles are reference Bibles and red letters except for their premier collection ones.

      I can’t understand why paper liners are used almost universally across all non-premium bibles. It seems like such a no-brainer to use a vinyl liner. I won’t buy a Bible with a paper liner.

    Got the chestnut one this week and after ripping out the crossway ribbon and adding two red ones myself I’m pretty impressed. With truetone I’ve found once you’ve really broken them in a bit the “give” and floppyness really start to shine.

      You can turn the pages?? I’m pretty upset with mine. I just got it today, but I’ve turned through all of the NT twice to separate the pages and they still just stick together. It’s like entering a war zone every time I open this thing. I feel like I have to psychologically prepare myself for battle. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s unpleasant.

    • @indeepcontemplation

      @@Jd-808 so I hear you, mine was like that too. It really does take a little time though and it gets better. What I did that first night I had was while I was watching TV I just had it my hands and was pretty aggressively “breaking it in” flipping the pages all the way front to back for probably like an hour. That made a huge difference. Think of it like breaking in a new baseball glove.

    • @anickelsworthbiblereviews

      @@indeepcontemplation so just an update, you were totally right - pages are great now and the paper even smooths out a lot when pressed (i mention this because I’ve noticed the premium French-milled paper does it) - I roughed it up pretty good trying to unstick the NT pages. Really wowed by this and I’m actually glad I didn’t get the premium first bc I don’t feel like I have to baby it.

    I wonder if the Crossway Trutone cover material composition has changed over the years. I have an older ESV Personal Reference in Trutone from ~2007, and the cover is flaking and cracking all over the place - and it never got a ton of use.

    • @saulm58
      @saulm58 4 місяці тому

      How long did it take for the cover of your Bible to start flaking and cracking? I don't find much information about the specific durability of Crossway Trutone (other that the material is less durable than real leather).

    • @anickelsworthbiblereviews
      @anickelsworthbiblereviews  4 місяці тому +2

      Any material that is man-made is going to decay faster than animal skin. It’s why they are so cheap.

    • @SEL65545
      @SEL65545 4 місяці тому

      I'd guess that it started flaking after about 10 years but that was also with pretty light use. I'm just wondering if the material of the newer Trutone covers has been refined to make them more durable.@@saulm58

      @@anickelsworthbiblereviews Thank you, Tim. By faster, would you say a year, a couple of years, if the Bible is regularly used, before the deterioration of the materials becomes noticeable?

    • @anickelsworthbiblereviews

      @saulm58 a couple of years yes. It depends on multiple factors though. Premium leather is going to last a lifetime.

    Man if I could get this Bible with the quality of the leather touch by Holman…. Ooh eee. They have the best fake leather IMO. Hard to tell it’s not real on some of them (but not all- seems each Bible edition has a different quality)

    Paragraph, single column is not at all on my wishlist. It looks like there is some margin space for notes, but that is the only plus for me. Font is also too small for my aged eyes so, while I understand that those who like to just read Scripture would probably appreciate this. It just doesn't work for me. :)
