  • The WRC calendar obviously goes through changes year by year and certain events come and go. However, over the years, there have been numerous rallies that have gone which sorely need to come back. Here are 8 events I want to see in the WRC again.
    Any footage I have used in this video will have its uploader credited on screen.

    As a brazilian, I was surprised when I discovered we had a WRC event here between 1981 & 1982. (Michèle Mouton, even won in '82)

    As an American rally fan, I've spent my whole life wishing we could get a WRC event here. I'm glad to see there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon for a US event. Rally is still very underrated here, but I'm sure people would love it if they were more exposed to it. It would also be nice not having to travel super far to see a race. I happen to be going to Japan this November where I will finally be seeing my first ever WRC event in person.

    • @bayersrig4260
      @bayersrig4260 11 днів тому +2

      It's kinda crazy to me how the US hasn't had an event there in over 35 years, there's probably a lot of fans there like yourself that would want an event. If it's money the FIA want out of it then surely the US is one of the best places for that anyway.

    • @krudmuphinstudioz
      @krudmuphinstudioz 11 днів тому

      @@bayersrig4260 Very true, i definitely don't think money will be an issue. A WRC event here would be a success right from the inaugural event. Even with the ARA league finally gaining some steam in recent years, a WRC event would be HUGE here for growing the sport.

    There are several reasons why Sanremo is no longer in the WRC calendar, but they can be summarized in two key reasons:
    1) local administrations: basically there's no money to organize such a massive event as it used to be, also some roads are quite old and there has been poor maintenance over the past years;
    2) the FIA spectators safety rules: the Sanremo stages are quite narrow and spectators had to stay on some tight, twisty and very steep slopes, which is in contrast to what the FIA wants today. FIA wants large fan areas in the stages with many access roads for people to get into these areas. Sardinia stages have plenty of those. Unfortunately, Sanremo lacks these features.
    In a shorter and compact format, the Sanremo rally is still part of the Italian Championship.
    However, voices have been strong about the possibility that the Sardina Rally could be replaced with the "Rally Roma Capitale", a tarmac event which has been part of the ERC calendar for several years.
    Nice video, good job as always

    • @JackohMotors
      @JackohMotors  12 днів тому +6

      Yes, I would agree that Sanremo is a thing of the past unfortunately. If there was any way to rework it into a modern format however I would definitely like to see it again, but not if they had it as a tarmac-only gig again. Wishful thinking on my part!

    • @Snarl616
      @Snarl616 11 днів тому +2

      There is also another reason why Sanremo is unlikely to come back.
      The Umbria and Tuscany stages, forget about it. In 1996 you had to start from Sanremo and go to Umbria via highway to run the first leg the day after. Too expensive. And, the liguria stages on tarmac are a disaster for spectators. You have to take a little shuttle bus that would bring you to the stage, but the twisty roads full of parked cars don't help and make the stage very hard to reach. I was there in 2003 and you can't imagine how many road cars were dented simply because the road that brought us there was too narrow.
      And finally, honestly Liguria is not a great place to visit. It's ok for northern italians to go to the beach on (cheap) vacation, but I can't see another reason for visiting it. Sardinia is harder to reach, but everything else is better.

Last year, I (as a Malaysian) flew over to Indonesia to spectate their international rally event called Danau Toba Rally where they have cars on the entry list over 60. This year, the Indonesian round of APRC will happen again this August.
    As I was spectating the podium ceremony event held in the town of Danau Toba, one of the organisers who was giving a speech said they're planning to bring back WRC to Indonesia. If that happens, I'll be there to watch it.

    There needs to be 14 rounds, starting with the Monte Carlo, and ending with Rally GB. There would be some alternations (I.e. if 2 rallies are close to each other, and a similar surface);

    3 Kenya
    4 Jordan/Cyprus
    5 Portugal/Sardinia

    I think in terms of gravel events Argentina, Australia and New Zealand have their place in the calendar.
    They all offer completely unique challenge and have roads that the drivers enjoy.
    I personally enjoyed watching tarmac rallies. The gaps were generally smaller than on gravel and some of the fastest local tarmac drivers had good chance to compete with the WRC boys.
    Sanremo in its tarmac layout was one of the events i really enjoyed. Corsica wasn't bad either, though the drivers generally didn't enjoy the event.

    The last Rally Australia was cancelled at extremely short notice due to a mega bushfire that destroyed quarter million square km and lasted a full year. There were grumblings from the teams about the event location. I presume the lack of spectators was the primary concern. Coffs Harbour is 400 - 500 km away from any major population center. There were proposals to bring the Rally within 200 km of Sydney (pop 5+ million) but COVID hit and as stated in the video... it hasn't happened.

    The Tennessee rally is still very much in play for the WRC, the FIA is visiting this year. The problem with rally in the US is the ARA Open category. Everywhere else in the world the top class is Rally 2. Unfortunately due to US road car registration most of the brands and cars that fit the homologated rally car is not sold in the US. You can't buy a Fabia, Yaris or Puma in the US. The full factory Subaru team that doesn't fit any FIA homologation dominates the series.

    Monte and sweden in the begining of the season and maybe Canada or the US at the end for snow, croatia, corsica, spain, japan for the tarmac part and for the loose surfaces safari, greece, new zealand and finland.

    "Another fairly obscure one, Rally Cyprus..."
    Funny how I have actually heard of that one despite still considering myself a casual fan when it comes to rally. It's because it was in my PS2 game growing up: ua-cam.com/video/jw_gdbZbGDY/v-deo.html&pp=ygUHd3JjIHBzMg%3D%3D
    edit #1: The tropical rainforest/island biome is a staple of Sega Rally and the like, so I feel like it should feature more promenently in real life rally, whether that means a return to Indonesia or a new event on some obscure Pacific island that's a logistical nightmare to get to. Make it an adventure.
    edit #2: The Gatlinburg area (including some stages across the border in Cherokee, Maggie Valley [Ghost Town in the Sky, anyone?]) would be a neat venue for a rally in Tennessee. I drove us back up the mountain after breakfast on our trip there last year, there was a light drizzle, and I had the music from the aforementioned WRC game running through my head the whole time.

    The "tougher is better" mindset doesn't work in the current WRC. You only have 8 cars and 5 serious competitors per rally. After a few crashes, it's just a coast fest.

    Saudi Arabia might be a decent rally. Could be an interesting round if a fair bit of sand comes into play

    I don't want WRC to go to US. They may push their diversity agenda to the sport, requiring cars of all shapes and forms to compete in the top class and tweak the the regulation even more to level the performance across this wide range of competing vehicles.

      It is a potential concern, but I'd be willing to take the risks for a couple of seasons to see how the pros and cons play out.

      @@JackohMotors if they ever try to hold wrc event in the USA, they have to do special stage at pikes pike. It will be wonderful.
      For the diversity craze going on in the state, let's hope it won't spread over to the motorsport so bad like in hollywood.
