Man this album is so underrated. Crazy thing about this album (and Opeth in general) for me: this was the first Opeth song I heard (or so I believed) and fell in love with the band. Once I stared to delve into their back catalogue, I realized that I had heard 'The Grand Conjuration' before in an old local metal station that had died out many many years ago. I loved the song but never knew what band it was. So I thought it was fucking awesome that I had rediscovered a treasure that I had lost through time.
Alex Cambron I had a similar experience. I had heard OF Opeth for years but had never heard em. Coming back from a concert the local access radio station we have out plays metal on Saturday nights. They played The Baying of the Hounds and man....I was hooked from then on.
No Opeth fan agrees, but Watershed is my favorite Opeth album of them all. Especially songs 1, 2and 3 played back to back. And this one is oneof their best ever. So very good choice!
The porcelain heart is his ex's, she committed suicide shortly after they broke up, and the anger was at himself that he felt responsible for it. Great Analyzing through the phases of the song though.
I was about to say, I don't think I could pull off that look. Anyway Watershed is a good album, Porcelain Heart is a solid track. Akerfeldt = genius. That is all. Check your messages, I left an essay.
I. Need. Opeth. Reactions. Basically, I'm a die-hard Opeth fanboy and so you know I'm always stoked to see what others think of their songs. Mikael's writing and style have a huge influence on me, I love the fluidity of it, and the atmosphere is very enchanting. Ever since I started listening to them I never failed to enjoy a single song after blasting it for god knows how many times. Not many musical acts manage to capture me with every single song, that's a work of really passionate musician(s).
This song strikes me as dripping with pain. Finding out the background of it (his girlfriend committed suicide and he felt responsible), it is dripping with agony.
I didn't know that though! It's amazing how they relay their emotions through song - I tend not to research a specific song beforehand so I have a very natural reaction. Sorry you didn't enjoy it!
Ha ha. I've never heard Opeth's lyrics described as "cheesy". Never.
