Hey thanks for the continued great reactions guys! 🤘😎 Opeth loves to present their message not just in the words but in the music together. Thumbnail Lady nailed it: there's a swirl of chaotic instrumentation in the music with a single familiar riff you can latch onto, just as when the narrator has a great loss his heart is in turmoil but he has his familiar friend to latch onto. Then he says "I... went far away..." and right then the music transitions to something new! Then in the calm part, he's starting to come to some piece of mind, but grief has a way of returning now and then, and so the music returns to the chaotic turmoil again. The next song is Hessian Peel which you already heard, then the last song is Hex Omega to close the album.
Opeth doesn't sound like anyone, and nobody sounds like Opeth. They are their own genre of metal. It's medieval folk death metal. It's like if the soundtrack to Diablo was metal.

Beautiful! For me their best album along with Still Life.
Exactly!
I recall Mikael has said in an interview that this is the most personal song he has written, and he considers it a mistake. It's a real masterpiece.
great commentary!

Soen sounds like them. But mix in a bit of Tool.
