LYRICS
I lost all I had that April day
I turn to my friends
Nothing to say
I wrote down a name
And read it twice
I wallow in shame
I said, that I love eternal schemes
I cling to my past
Like childish dreams
I promised to stay
And held my breath
I went far away
I see roots beneath my feet
Led me through wastelands of deceit
Rest your head now, don't you cry
Don't ever ask the reason why
Kept inside our idol race
Ghosts of an idol's false embrace
Rest your head now, don't you cry
Don't ever ask the reason why
To an ordinary band writing this would've been a once in a lifetime achievement, while Opeth writes those on a regular basis
No joke, their music is legendary
TRUTH
welcome to prog
drumming is absolute madness
Hey....thanks for your comment. I love the drums also....I feel the same way. Cheers my friend
that first break tho
Try listening to that on 10 while driving a diesel on the #1 doing 140 just to keep up.

@Milton Arbogast let’s see a video of you doing better.
What I love about this is how Opeth is able to make an eerie and heavy song without the use of Death Metal vocals. Nothing against them using them in other songs but it's nice to see them know when to turn them off.
TheBushwooky It really says something about their versatility and skill as musicians.
+TheBushwooky i really have an aversion to death metal vocals so im weeding through the things i dont like... normally this would annoy me but this band is so great & i think its cool that they can do both
The whole album is eerie, and Akerfeldt made the song mellotron heart wich adds to the eerie feeling :)
Mellotron is one of my favourite instruments
If you notice, the guitars sound absoultley brutal without down tuning or excessive distortion. Just loud and powerful.
They made acoustic guitar sounds pure evil on a lot of there songs
"I've lost all I had that April day"
R.I.P dad, we used to listen to Opeth every single day, and you loved this song too.
04/20/2019
my dad died may 1st 2016, we knew it was coming in March. I always thought that lyric was an omen.
I'm so sorry for your loss :(
Sorry for your loss. Stay strong today
@@danielderma3473 Thanks, today marks two years since his death
I am sorry for your loss. I lost my loved one too and this one was "our" track. I come once in awhile to honour our sweet memories:

These guys are geniuses ...
19toh63 that's what I said then everyone's like no you're a genius then I'm like no no, you're a genius then we all chuckle and swirl our brandy glasses
This is the song that got me into Opeth. What a masterpiece.
I found a Headbanger's Ball CD on the side of the road one day when I was a teenager. This song was on it, along with End of the World by god Forbid, Trigger Full of Promises by Walls of Jericho, Vulture by A Life One Lost, and Nothing Remains by Chimera. That whole CD was absolute gold. This song was the most brilliantly put together in the whole thing, and was my first Opeth as well
The parts where he does 'Ahh..' feels like grieving to me, so intense.
it is, the song is about his late gf that committed suicide
2:14 I'm just amazed by the drums, it's just incredible
your profile pic fits the comment XD
+Freezie Pop Axenrot is god amongst men
+Peter Dimoff all hail Axenrot our Lord and our God
+Freezie Pop He's like "fuck you guys, I'm gonna do a drum solo"
Freezie Pop lol seriously. It's so rare to hear someone go out of the pocket so perfectly.
This is, I believe, a work of perfection.
Ahhhh nothing like some opeth at the end of the night
Actually metal is best when you listen at night
"Have you try turn off and on again?"
The first song I ever heard by them

Same here. A very good way to start.
Welcome to the Opeth family. =]

3:28 is one of the most powerful, mournful riffs I've ever heard.
You can't pass out while hearing this rif
@@antoinehemi4266 That's not what I meant.
Opeth are the Masters of Mourn!!
This part sounds like the first lead part from Under The Weeping Moon
For me there is a slight bit of hope in there, like there is a struggle, light and darkness - either way, it's incredible!
What do you think about Drapery Falls?
Axe's drum fill from 2:14 - 2:29 is incredible..... Sounds so off then he pulls it together..... 🤘🤘
4:57 I can't help myself... I burst into tears whenever I listen to this part.
One of the greatest songs ever written.
3:22 This transition always gives me the chills
As for the freakout solo in "Porcelain heart" we just did maybe 20-30 takes. I lost the sense timing and rhythm (too complicated) since Axe is playing all over the place, and couldn't foresee when the part should end. Somehow Axe perfectly understood the "beat" and nailed it a number of times, but it wasn't crazy enough until we got what's on the album. It was basically standing ovations in the mixing room once we got that down. Fucking tricky shit, not studio trickery!
- Mikael Akerfeldt
Don't you just want to close your eyes and relax when 4:57 hits?
Opeth is more than music, this is art!
Well.. I mean.. Music is a form of art
music is more
Music is art
I wallow in shame.
They are fine art!
10 years ago this was my favorite song by them. Nothing has changed a bit. 4:57 gives me chills
Pelin how old is this song? Lol
Andrei White 10 years old
4:57 - 6:10 is where it's at
This song is almost 15 years old
Axenrot goes absolute nuts before the 2nd verse. I've never heard anything like that.
Me either bro. Thats why he's the best

Chilling how the first vocal part of the song mimicks Closure in the Damnation Album.
The bridge is sad and beautiful

Listening to this song brings back so many memories. Still as good as the day i bought the CD. Still as good as the day I got to see it live.
4:57 - 6:10
The moment that you realize that the whole song in one hand and this part is another world!
one of the best Opeth songs
Terribly sad I missed them when they came to the viking bar in Wellington.
Love this song.
So sad it's about a passing 💚
A work of genius. Fits into many, many genres of music
This song is so good.. I don't understand why it has less views.. this is one of the best songs they've made..
Masterpiece.
I love that song so much and Mikael voice

Omg those drums!!
Dislikers have absolutely no taste in this musical masterpiece
Haters are afraid of feeling emotion.
perhaps they just dont like it
Dislike = This I like 🤷🏽♂️
Dislikers generally don't like the drum fills in this song.
I like the part at at 4:57, because is totally like Still Life by Iron Maiden and Spiders by System of a Down.

i've heard lots of snippets from opeth that sounds like maiden, SOAD, tool, pink floyd etc
i can remember watching the music video for the grand conjuration on mtv x as a kid...little did i know how much i would come to love this band!
Why is this albums so good?
The lyrics in there music always speaks too me in a very deep level very well written amazing music from an amazing band...
Amazing music
Absolutely maravillosa !!! Adore 🙏🏼
My absolute favorite❤️
Watching the music video for burden followed by this on Mtv2 when I was a teenager made me fall in love with this band. And now I realize if Opeth wasn't so groundbreaking, my favorite band, BTBAM, may never have even made it to the light.
Also, they are fellow swedes and will forever have a place in my heart. Thank you for all these beautiful pieces. Porcelain Heart following Burden is the perfect duo of soul shattering nasterpieces.

What a great band …
Deep feeling of sadness and sorrow, griefing over my past everyday.....

Why Opeth songs are like a musical PTSD 😃
masterpiece
Perfect.
i'll never know what you do...
and you'll never know my specific unrequited...
but for years, you have helped me spin my tales...
i wallow in your tears,
sculpt them to reach my words
and step out of them
with you on my shoulder,
thank you....it gives me goosebumps.
if it will give breath,
it allows...
and enjoins.
many years later, all is
what
it
is
i have this song and always related to it...
originally wanted to post my "porcelain heart" story...
after just the first comment, i realize i am not as faint.
my heart has gone through some stuff.
alas, i am not as delicate.
i bow my head for those who fall to the undertow. prayers with heart and hands clasped.
the sadness is, the nothing.
i wait...long.....
when i feel it,
just to make sure
i write
and i wait longer
and then the sun WILL come.
hold out and write...
hold out til you almost die...
and if you have to call your brother or sister.
please, i promise,
just hold out....
hang baby. something is around the corner if yer willing to look.
if anything, peek...and step back...and call your bro.
just
find

0 Dislike, eso es genial! esta cancion es imposible de odiar, sencillamente una de las mejores canciones de opeth
Ya tiene 28 .. el mundo es una porquería.
wow opeth wooooooow💎💎💎
To me peak Opeth was Ghost Reveries, a masterpiece album, GOAT level, every moment of that album is incredible. Afterwards, there are moments of brilliance, like this piece, which is amazing, however, these moments seem to come far fewer between as you move forward through time.
I completely disagree. Watershed was a brilliant album. Even Heritage, Pale Communion and Sorceress had several good moments.
@@alessa_cybergoth I did say there were flashes of brilliance afterwards... I also really liked Sorceress and Pale Communion. But those were mixed in with song that I really didn't enjoy. It's not like Ghost Reveries where you could play it forward to back, back to forward, and every song was is brilliance to me. For context, I didn't really enjoy a lot of their earlier stuff too, it's just Ghost Reveries is where Opeth and I gelled perfectly. I do that with other bands too like Lacuna Coil, I absolutely loved Karmacode, but most of their other stuff is meh and forgettable to me.
This song feels like " I will die but your love will forever be mine "
Well, from what I read, this song is about an ex-girlfriend of Mikael committing suicide after they broke up, so uh, yeah I guess you're right

Their last truly great song imho.
I think Folklore is one of these songs too
Flower travellin' band FTW
What instrument is that at 5:20 ? So beautiful
That is done on the keyboard. Although with a nice combination of synth and reverb that gives rise to that feel!
It's almost certainly a Keyboard MIDI synth, but it's an oboe. Like a clarinet but "quackier".
synthetic reeds
That's definitely an oboe. Trust me I listen to a lot of classical music.
