Those Swedes can Jam!!! Love these guys for many many years. Miss the original drummer. Mike is amazing. Peter left to play bass for amon amarth. Good stuff.
@@josephrodriguez2635 Peter actually left to be an IT consultant, was sick of the spotlight. So he got a job using the degree he took during the early days of Opeth
I was never a fan of growled vocals. Then one day I heard a song called “Blackwater Park”. I’m still not a fan of growls in general, but I’m a huge fan of Opeth. Never thought I’d hear the phrase “progressive death metal” but here we are ... and gladly
There are three types of Opeth fans: 1) Listens to their albums before Watershed 2) Listens to their albums after Watershed 3) Listens to their whole discography.
I have the biggest smile on my face. First *Tool* now *Opeth* ?! One of my favorite metal bands of *_all time_* man. Mikael Akerfeldt (the singer) is considered by many and myself to have the nastiest growls in metal. I am happy you found them Beem jammimg *Harlequin Forest* for years. ✌
This band is actually a big influence on Jinjer and Tatiana's vocals. Mikael, the mastermind behind Opeth, does all the vocals and switches effortlessly between the clean and growling live as well. On top of being one of the guitarists. They have so many styles, far beyond what this song even showed, that you definitely need to hear a few more songs to get a real feel for them. Gonna request a slightly mellower one, A Fair Judgment. Live or album version are both good.
Yes!!! This is only my opinion😎 There are so many masterpieces to check out from this band, they have so many influences and their songs have a wide range of styles, from acoustic to death metal. The album Damnation is their soft album(check Windowpane) and theyre flagship album is Blackwater Park. The growls are an aquired taste but you will find that the musicianship is brilliant. I suggest for the next track, Either Harvest, Bleak, Deliverance or Blackwater Park 🙌🏼 Loving your reactions too 😎
To me GR is their monument. I love their old stuff too, but GR finally had stellar production value. I know I'm probably cursing in church, but I would love them to remaster the pre-GR albums and give them the same fat sound. Watershed is equally amazing as GR. And In Cauda Venenum is a bloody masterpiece.
Cool to see you dipping into some opeth. They have a lot of great epic tracks. Would be interested to see you check out a few faith no more tracks. A legendary and diverse band that effortlessly mix genres from metal-funk-rap-soul & more. They also have one of the best frontmen in rock.
Glad you finally got to these guys, bro! One of the greatest bands to ever strap on guitars! Definitely need to listen to The Grand Conjuration. Watch the live versions if you can, from the DVD's. Great quality.
Porcupine Tree - Anesthesized (Live in Tilberg) or Steven Wilson - "Routine" or "The Raven That Refused To Sing" (The Feels!!!) Both are bands with Steven Wilson, he also produced some of Opeth's greatest albums. He is a musical genius if you ask me.
i don't know how i missed my favorite reactor reacting to my favorite band. opeth is one of those bands that is on a different level, and they sound EXACTLY like the album when they play live.
Very enjoyable reaction bro. Love this band so damn much, I'm one of those weird Opeth fans that like every album. The more you look into them, you'll find there are basically two camps for fans, pre and post watershed. I'm the statistical outlier that doesn't give a damn what era you listen to, you just need more Opeth in your life! I would make a suggestion, but i like them all. Haha. Keep up the excellent reactions buddy! Loving the channel.
Man I have been waiting so long for someone to do a react to Opeth and YOU sir picked one of my top 3 from my favorite band! I'm glad you had a good time with it.
Fun Fact: Opeth is one of Jinjer's biggest inspirations. I think you'll really enjoy their stuff. In their more recent albums, Mikael Akerfeldt dropped the growls. Might be a bit more palatable, but there are masterpieces in every one of their albums for me. If I had to suggest one with growls, I'd say Blackwater Park--and for one without, Folklore. Really smooth song with an amazing solo. I think you'd appreciate the instrumentation. Gotta dive in the Opeth rabbit hole now! 😁
So much magnificent metal out there! I started listening when Black Sabbath was the only game in town. Always reaching for better. Opeth is an outstanding example.
Ghost of perdition... it literally has everything in a song. Jaz, rock, scream, metal, death metal, lullaby, trance, i could go on ... lol you won't be disappointed
Hey . Coming from a heavy metal concert hours ago, being a fan of rock music in general, seeing you react to Pink Floyd -> watching you react to this. Please do more Opeth if you enjoy it. Opeth for me is like a modern metal version of Pink Floyd in a way. Very creative, and you dont know whats comming next! great reaction!
Oh yes! I've been waiting for you to do Opeth, you have GOT to do more of their songs! They have some great live videos too if you wanna see what the band is doing...and yes that is all one singer doing both smooth and harsh vocals. They are a very moody and gloomy prog metal band from Sweden, they have very long songs with plenty of transitions with a large discography of great songs.
Man I wish I could erase my memory of this song and listen to it again for the first song. Such a wild ride of a song, one of if not my favorite by them.
Stark determination Poisoning the soul Unfettered beast inside Claiming sovereign control That is what the cookie monster is singing that you were wondering about
Let me be honest here. I am addicted to Opeth. I went to 11 shows in my time. I might be a Mikkael Akkerfeld fan girl. But your honest reaction to, what I would label as one of Opeth's masterpieces, (or, like Mikkael put it at the latest show I went, where they played Harlequin Forrest: difficult to play, horrible to sing 🤣) just sums up my first experience with that song 💕💕💕 I just love the complexity and surprises at every corner. And, yet still, if you're used to their work you'll find their signiture in every song. That's why I love Opeth so much! And for the outro: just listen to deliverance 🤣😇👍
Deliverance is great and worthwhile for sure, but other than it being heavier and bleaker throughout, he already saw whatever range they have to offer there in this song, including an unusually groovy and sorta standalone outro.
“Nocturnally helpless, And weak in the light.. Depending on a prayer.. Pacing deserted roads to find A seed of hope..” “They are the trees.. Rotten pulp inside, and never well.. Roots are sucking, thieving from my source.. Tired boughs reaching for the light..” lyrics don’t get better than that! The ending of this song, and the repetitive phrasing, is supposed to represent being lost within the Harlequin Forest. I love artists who use the music to represent the emotion of the lyrics! Pure genius, just like everything Opeth does!!🤘🏼🤘🏼
I absolutely love Opeth among my top 5 bands! Please do check out some more from them. Such a unique band. Since you like Rush and steely Dan, Opeth is definitely your type. Check out their songs, Pale Communion onwards. They have lots of mass improvised prog stuff. This is my favorite Opeth outro, followed by Deliverance and All Things will Pass.
There is a music video to a more emotionally driven song of theirs called Porcelain Heart. It is a song that is a total gutwrencher, and is written really beautifully. Some serious skill in the songwriting chops of this band, there’s a lot of polish in their work
I had never heard of Opeth when I went to a metal festival because Metallica was performing and in one of the time gaps we stepped into a big tent to get away from the sun too and Opeth was just starting. Everyone was lighting up to smoke weed (Netherlands) for this band and the crowd was older. I don't normally like grunting but they are just as good live and I was really impressed. It doesn't really matter that much which song it is you always feel right in the middle of the experience as there are so many transitions constantly. I understood why it was attractive to all the guys smoking weed, haha. Amazing musicians who make the song as long as they need to.
Finally get to see these guys in February! Pumped! Check out their songs Deliverance (best ending ever), Bleak, Grand Conjuration, and Ghost of Perdition
