As soon as I saw Lagann I straight away knew where this was going, then it went further beyond. Amazing. Also loved the variety, initially I thought it was just gonna be anime but when the Star Wars and Zoid mechs popped up I was happy.

I think BT and gypsy danger are easily the most realistic depictions of massive Mecha, EVA's are too mobile for their size and despite how good neon is it does a far inferior job of showing it's scale compared to Pacific rim
@@churchA.I Nah. The smaller mechs would be more "realistic" as inverse cube law makes ridiculously huge mechs portrayed in shows actually less "realistic". Definitely would need MUCH larger feet to spread out the weight.

That said, vanilla Gurren Lagann's scale is a little... off. It's been a while since watching, but I'm pretty sure it should be big enough to fit someone comfortably in the head.
Well they are using meters and some rough estimations. It wasn't very tall but wide enough that it could fit a few people and everyone always had to be sitting. It always looked a bit cramped for anyone but Simon who was pretty small in his own right.
@@StonedHunter No, no. Gurren Lagann is not 5 meters tall, with that scale, the head would literally be smaller then Lagann, and would not fit simon properly. I believe gurren lagann is like... closer to 10-15 meters? I'll try and dig up some information but it towers over some structures and over people a lot of the time. I knew in my heart what mech was going to take the cake...but it still baffles me that a show can go above and beyond DBZ's level of craziness and power. TTGL is an absolute masterpiece.
The trick is they knew exactly how long the series was going to run, so they could push it to the exact limit and be sure they wouldn't have to go farther

@MBS, the reason why the wiki states that TTGL is that big is because: the fight takes place in a pocket universe that is much bigger and more complicated than ours, so those galaxies that you see in the background are actually *GARGANTUAN*. TTGL is described to be 100,000 times bigger than the milkyway galaxy (according to the creators?)

Helps when it’s within an alternative dimensional space in-between the membranes of the 11th and 10th dimensions, that is entirely shaped by conscious thought.
I mean it falls in line with the show. The Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann had missiles that literally alter probability itself just to always hit you, and the Arc Gurren Lagann iirc had a punch that literally knocks it's target into other dimensions
I was surprised how small armored cores were, makes me wish all games that have pilotable mecha should allow you to walk on foot to get a scale of how big they really are.
The size of armored cores varies by game somewhat, in some of the older ones (2 or 3 I think) AC's are closer in size to RX-78 going off the intro videos.
For anyone wondering as to why tengen toppa and chou tengen toppa were on here twice, those two mechas can also exist inside of normal space, as they generate spiral energy within themselves. But when in a super spiral universe, where spiral energy is generated everywhere, It can become bigger than our observable universe.
I'm pretty sure they have teleporters all over Tengen Toppa. And then Super Tengen Toppa is basically every single mech combined into one being, which is actually the reincarnation of Kamina, who was the founder of Team Dai-Gurren the brother of the main character... So STTGL isn't really a mech and more like a pure being of cosmic and spiral energy and the spirit of a dead man.
When the camera went out the solar system, i was like "excuuuuse me?" then it went out the galaxy, i was like 0.o Then it showed two freaking legs standing above the observable universe
Very happy to see _Battletech_ getting some recognition with the Timberwolf, although I'm a little disappointed it wasn't followed up by the Atlas or Annihilator. If this video is all about mechs going big it seems only logical that those beasts of assault mechs should get some mention. Still, its nice to see the series and its fanbase gaining more visibility and popularity these days. I always love these comparisons! It's fun to see the non-anime ones distributed throughout. The truck driving along for scale was a great touch too. I wonder if there are any mechs that would have fit well to fill the gap between planet-scale and galaxy-scaled ones
I honestly wasn't expecting Lancelot or Big O to be that small. I feel like the Lancelot was supposed to be significantly taller, and Big O was the size of buildings from what I remembered. Crazy how the scale is so variable.
these sizes arent perfect. look at gurren lagann early on for example. simon's cockpit was the head, but that's waaay too small to be accurate. you could even ridetandem in both lagann's cockpit, and in gurren's so they were fairly spacious
The Knightmare's in Code Geass were always relatively small in scale compared to a lot of other mechs, but in a lot of cases the show creators probably never decided on an exact figure for their size and someone else was left to come up with one to fill in the details later.
The Eva's of Evangelion are somewhat difficult to approach, since they can have from 40 meters to 200 meters, but now the most accepted in their height is between 70 to 100, being 80 meters the most successful Still, wow... Escaflowne is much smaller than I expected. It's always felt much larger than that in the show. However given that Van basically directly controls the arms and legs from the chest cavity I suppose it couldn't be too large.

While gurren lagann doesn't really care about scale, 5m for vanilla gurren lagann is really off. That would make it so 30% of it was lagann since lagann is the head and we know it's 1.5 meters without it's little shell. Based on using lagann as a measuring stick vanilla gurren lagann jumps from 15-30 metres throughout the show because they really didn't care (impact was more important that scale), one of his attacks was literally making a massive drill that's like 10x the size of the mecha. But this is all because gurren lagann is pretty insane to find measurements for and the 5m comes from a measurement given in the data book for the arc's size while it's unmeasurable because during that part of the anime nothing is physically real and they're on a higher dimensional plane so really fuck it. Gurren Lagann really did get wacky, still good though.
ikr. it should have been at leas 12 meters tall, since the way pilot is located within mecha is similar to the Valkyrie (Macross). So Gurren Lagann supposed to be much bigger than 5 meters. Now that I think of it it's 3 times smaller than Attack Titan (from Attack on Titan duh). Which feels kinda wrong

In Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan's case, it is all Spiral Power which is essentially the potential power of Evolution itself as well as a spirit filled with burning vigor. Apparently, sufficient levels of Hype could theoretically create an entire universe's worth of energy to convert into infinite matter.
Loved the show, was the same animation house as Men In Black, and Extreme Ghostbusters. The Big Guy and Rusty comic by Frank Miller and Geof Darrow which the show was based off of is great too.
Wait a second, Gurren Lagann's head is its own independent mech (as seen earlier) able to fit at least three young adults and a pig-mole. The Gurren Lagann shown at around 1:25 looks like it could barely fit one of those people in the jeep in its torso, let alone in its head. The Prawn Suit seen two bots to the left is able to accommodate one pilot in a cockpit that, by this measure, seems to be twice as spacious as Gurren Lagann's. What's up with all that? edit: y'know, this might be a futile question given how big Gurren Lagann gets later. Trigger's default size category is "bigger than that last thing".
5m. Is just only "Gurren" itself. Totall high of Gurren Lagann is 12m. ... So your next question is "where did another 6.5m come from?" Right? When they"GATTAI DA!!" it always shows that Gurren extended it's arms legs and neck.
Ehh.... two young adults and a tween. Simon was like 12-13 when they found Gurren. And I think Yoko and Kamina would have to be around 16-17 ish. That being said the point still stands, though I think Gurren was more of a bowl than anything, so not super tall but damn boi he thicc. Like a VW Beetle.

Just moving a finger tip in any meaningful way in a mech at size would break the speed of light and the laws of causality. It would take billions of years for a signal from the head to travel to the feet, and it would also take billions of years for your enemies to even be able to see the full size of the mecha.

You even included Escaflowne, Nirvash, and Xenogears stuff. . Hats off to you!
thats because escaflowne and Nirvash already in super robot wars series.
If one of the Gears was in the SRW series they would be kinda broken, Xenogears would be way more broken than Zeorymer or Neo Granzon.
@@BenunoKagaho Especially Weltall considering what it can turn into...and the level of destruction it can bring out.
Escaflowne is much smaller than I expected. It's always felt much larger than that in the show. However given that Van basically directly controls the arms and legs from the chest cavity I suppose it couldn't be too large.
I was very pleasantly surprised to see Weltall there
On the galactic size and bigger, It'd take countless light-years to go to different body parts inside. Imagine needing to travel from the left ear to the right ear

Gurren lagan looks so absurd, yet when watching the anime you just feel it work, it feels right and everything is so full of emotion that you cant help but love it.
Yeah, this anime is a Must watch, even if you dont like mechas, i certainly didnt find any appeal to them, but damn, this anime changed my outlook on them.
The true giant robot is THE POWER OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT
@@TheStargateNerd It's a testament to the skill of the storyboarding, storytelling and animators that they made things at scale work.

That shit is overrated as hell.
I like how they referenced the fact that Jupiter is in fact a piloted robot
I find quite impressive the amount of presumable work behind this video in terms of searching for sources in every instance and actual modeling for each of them. Well done indeed.
Stopped watching it when they killed off the main character and let a retarded mob character take his place.
Nerd.
Yeah 5 meters is way off. It always felt more natural for him to be at least Mazinger Z's height.
He's 10 to 15 meters. It's in the data books by Gainax

6:45, it was soo heart warming to see the terraformer from Jak 3. makes me happy to know that not everyone has forgotten such an amazing series . Thank you for including it :)

Megas XLR and Big O being here is beautiful
Now that was insane. Pretty sure the only MBS video that goes further than this in scale is the time comparison.
The heat video goes at least this high. But yeah, those blue cubes will probably never be outdone.
Possibly. I might put the speed comparison somewhere up there as well, since he went so far into the slower speeds. That was probably the one I've learned the most from too, incidentally.
Yeah, sometimes I watch the time comparison just to remember, that some things are not as important as they pretend to be
Nothing can top the time/blue cubes video, it would probably break human minds if it did
I had to use this video to explain to my fiance that Vah Nabooris is taller than an ATAT. He was mildly surprised to see just how much bigger it was.
Bro hasn't he seen it it in game? How big does he think At-Ats are???!!

Was happy to see the Armored Core unit in there. I miss those games. Oddly, one of my primary core units looked almost exactly like the one you demo'd.
I think From Software are making a new one.
So many good memories of playing Project Phantasma and Master of Arena on the OG PSX. I was bummed about the later installments though, especially the titles that got handed over to SEGA. Would love to see a reboot done right.
The video did not include the Spiritual Successor to Armored Core, Daemon X Machina. Those mechs are around 5m tall.
That's AC Oracle from Armored Core: Nexus I think. Kinda like the cover mech of the game.
Yes and Front mission too i love front mission 4 my favorite mecha genre games till now
And it is even larger than that, because in the final battle, they are fighting between universes, those aren't galaxies, but universes
They even throw them at eachother.
@9:26.
Maintenance Crew Chief: Sir, we need to replace wiring on Getter Emperor's right foot. It's pretty worn out.
Engineer: Ok, what's the length of the wire needed?
Maintenance Crew Chief: About 8,000 lightyears long.
I love how there are robots in fiction that you would literally have to strip-mine entire universes to create.
@@EatWave Yep. Everything above the size of Arc-Gurren Lagann is a construct of pure spiral energy; it has nothing to do with actual matter.
I am so happy that you have included Megas XLR to the list 😊
Chicks dig giant robots.
And the Super Giga Drill is even bigger than that!!
I guess the debate is settled. Linguini IS a mech.
Side note, does anyone remember the show Big Guy & Rusty?
Damn, that show was badass. I always kinda hoped for a crossover between Big Guy and Megas XLR.
Loved the show, was the same animation house as Men In Black, and Extreme Ghostbusters. The Big Guy and Rusty comic by Frank Miller and Geof Darrow which the show was based off of is great too.
Big Guy & Rusty was awesome!!
Hell yeah!
Thé vidéo actually get the size of stage 1 gurren Lagann wrong. He’s supposed to be approximately 12m based on what I’ve read… not 5m
Except that its not only 'Gurren' its 'Gurren Lagann' cause you can actually see the head (Lagann) its definitely wrong.
@@shinotenshi5192 nobody said the video is correct here.
Keep in mind that Anti-Spiral will always a little bit bigger than any size of STTGL/TTGL.
Yeah but they're an entity not a mech I thought?
No that’s not true, with sheer willpower the spiral lifeforms are able to push past the limits the anti-spirals thought as absolute
Better watch out! Emmet’s Contruct-O-Mech seems like it’s a force to be reckoned with.
