Cappuccilli was an outstanding singer. I love all of the amateur comments, wanna-be singers and know-it-alls. His Gerard ranks as one of the all-time greatest.

I have always had mixed feelings about PC.
This was a huge, handsome voice, buttressed by ample temperament. Well suited to the dramatic Italian baritone roles overall.
His voice just never pleased or touched me viscerally. Yes it was large, and all the rest. But. If I want an Italian baritone, I’ll eagerly listen to Zancanaro, despite him having a smaller voice. His color and technique are thrilling.
Too bad he cut off the ending.
Sembra a me o ha tenuto troppo lunga "mo" ritrovandosi poi leggermente privo di fiato nella nota finale?

His voice never thrilled me.
Actually, I liked MacNeil in the role, despite the age in the voice, at the time I heard him. Just glad his high G at the end was not attempted full open, like the F in his Tosca Te Deum. That was scary.
