When I first discovered that my battery was under the seat I was upset. However, after seeing the condition of my 9 year old battery that still looked like new even though it was not holding a charge any more I have changed my opinion of the location. It is also very nice because when hooking up other things I don't have to go through the firewall or under the vehicle. And if you look on the drivers side there are matching recesses that would make great storage for an emergency. Food, money, tools, ammo, etc. Thanks for posting. This helped me a lot.
I tried moving seat forward to remove battery when my alternator fried but had no luck that night. I will try it again to see how much access I have. Thanks for the positive comment which I highly appreciate.
Some say you can move seat all the way forward and should be able to remove battery. I took my Durango this Saturday to get the ignition switch, (win module ) and 2 keys replaced. The tech left my door open and actually my battery died out in 2 hrs just with the lamps on. This battery may be really cheap or I have something drawing current. Good luck.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART YOU SKIP OVER HOW TO GET IT OFF SMH ON THE RED TERMINAL. WHEN YOU MAKE INSTRUCTIONS VIDEOS DONT SKIP OR EDIT OUT ANY PART PLEASE SIR.
Thanks for the video. I believe by taking the seat out, it’s a much easier way to remove the battery. I was going to try to remove it by moving the seat forward but the battery could be a pain to take out.
I tried removing the battery by moving the seat forward but had no luck. I suspect a cable probably got snatched but ended up removing seat and cleaning up all the junk from compartment. Thanks for watching.
Looking up videos to attempt to remove the battery from my durango. I have an older one and the battery is under the hood. Glad I found this video so I know NOT to get any newer model durangos because this is stupid. Who thought it was a good idea to put it in the floor?
Some mention you can move the seat foward and lift them if electric. I tried moving mine fowards but couldn't get the battery out. My dad's car has the battery under rear seat, brothers has battery in the trunk and my trucks under the hood where they belong.
Batteries last much longer but it is a PIA to change . It is even tighter now because the new ones (2016 on up) have "2" batteries in that space . there is also a smaller battery for the useless stop/start function on the V6's . You might be able to get it out the back if you have power seats that raise up . Manual seats do not raise so you may not be able to get it out without pulling the seat or you may have to pull out the small battery to get at the main battery . Dont know why they did this as there is quite a bit of space under that hood specially on the V6's that they could have just put a tray in .
Many have mentioned they were able to remove their battery without removing the seat bug I just couldn't. I wonder if my seat was not fully moved forward or if they have seats that raise. The alternator fried on the unit and I was told it was due to the hydraulic pump used instead of a power steering pump. I also lost my ignition switch aka the win module. The Durango should hit 100k miles this month. My father has a Buick car and his battery is under the rear seat, my sister's car has battery behind the front bumper and my brothers car has the battery in the trunk.
Thanks for making the video. I had no idea the battery was under the passenger seat. So you do or don’t have to remove the back big bolts. Because you did mention you were unable to remove, I’m not sure sure what you were referring to.
You should be able to move the seat fully forward to clear battery compartment. I think I stopped short of that and well removed the seat. Hope this helps.
If you try removing the battery try pushing the seat forward as much as possible. I had issues but others claim they were able to remove battery without removing seat. Battery life was great as the engine heat does not affect the battery like other vehicles.
Many have mentioned this to me. I was unable to get the battery out and not sure if a cable hung up and I didn't see it or my seat was not fully forward. Thanks
After replacing the cam and lifters, I thought I couldnt hate this car any more. The other day I got every warning light and message available on startup. Low battery voltage will do that. Anyhow, went to remove my battery in the freezing cold, but the hold down bolts were frozen in water that collected in the tray. 😢
I recently replaced the oil fill cooler which bolts on top of the engine block under the intake manifold and injectors. I had a small oil leak that was from that cooler and mechanics thought it was the rear main seal. The part took me about 2 hours to install and sensor on it is defective. I then decided to swap the spark plugs and coils and believe one coil either came unplugged or also went bad. I really haven't made time to fix the Durango but I should.
Glad I DIDN'T watch this video before I swapped my battery. Like dirtmopar said, move the seat forward and squeeze it out. If your batt is dead, jump it to move the seat forward.
When I removed the seat I was able to find several skittles and M&Ms. I was not able to move forward enough and think a cable or track was getting stuck at the time. Last week I replaced the radiator and the external fuel relay again. Lets hope for 2 more years on this 2013.
I am planning on another give away in the next 12 to 48 hours so stay tuned. I am running behind on my videos but will get back to them tonight. Thanks for the support.
I was told the same and for some reason I could not remove it. I may have not moved seat all the way or maybe an obstruction not letting seat fully move. Thanks for the comment and suggestion.
You can BUT it is way easier to remove the seat. Even with the seat removed, my positive battery cable give up a good fight coming off and would have been impossible to have removed with the seat in the way.
lol. Some had luck removing the battery just sliding the seat forward and I couldn't remove it that way. The good thing I was able to vacuum up all the junk in the compartment.
I moved the seat all the way forward and still the battery would get hung up. I took an extra step for easier access of removing the battery and cleaning up the compartment. The battery was replaced and everything was checked easier than being cramped between front and rear seats. Sorry if my way is to much work to remove an extra 4 bolts. Have a good one 😉
Congratulations! I think you're the only one on UA-cam that chose the easiest method.
Thanks. Maybe 5 years from now I will try the other method and see how it goes. Thanks

My Durango was full of ants this weekend and I saw the compartment you mentioned. I will open it up just to get a better idea of capacity . Thanks
Your vehicle still shuts off on road 11:37 on your vid.. what was the troblem after batt replaced
If you move the seat all the way forward and raise it up the battery will come out the back.
I tried moving seat forward to remove battery when my alternator fried but had no luck that night. I will try it again to see how much access I have. Thanks for the positive comment which I highly appreciate.
Not all the seats are power . Manual seats do not raise up .
His way was easiest
@@15DurangoRT nope lol moving the seat to the front is the best
Did you ever vacuum the truck ? Lol
Thank You, your vid helped me out :)
Glad I could help!
Very helpful. I'll change my Durango Durango battery in 5 minutes. 😇 hope things gonna be fine

No problem 👍

Hey man if we unplug the aux battery will it cause any issues? We hate that feature and prefer to keep the car cranking when driving.
He said this was a 2017 but it’s weird it doesn’t have push to start
@@MUFCXI just turn it off while driving .. I heard you can get it disabled though

@@cutweldngrind I replaced the battery already. Very easy. Thanks

This video was a TREEMDOUS help! Thank you so much!
Just put the seat all the way forward and you can remove the battery from the second row area!!!!!!!

What is that black connector piece for???
Venting I believe
@@intruda119 Thanks it was...I figured out it was my brake module keep in my car from starting
why is there water getting in the battery area from
Kids always leave water bottles under the seats so probably came from that.
Where did you buy your battery and how much I have a 2014 sxt
It was at o'Reilly auto parts but they around $200 just about everywhere I asked.
During hot days the charging voltage is going to show lower on on the multimeter, colder days its higher.
Thanks. I hope this vehicle last a few more years as cars are getting expensive lately.
That seems to be a very inconvenient place for a battery to go. What ever happened to under the hood?
Ok. Great video right up till you cut out and come back with the work already done
Sorry about that. Its difficult at times filming and sometimes I loose footage or my camera dies out.
Es el unico modo de sacar la pila?
Quitando el asiento?
Unos dicen que se puede sin sacar el asiento pero yo no pude. a lo mejor me falto mover el asiento un poco mas, no lo se. Gracias
Gracias!!!
It’s that a wire for car amplifier

Listen to dirtymopar he is correct
Just slide the seat all the way forward dude
The battery hold down nuts are 13 mm not 14.
My cheap sockets might be off 1mm then, thanks for sharing.
All you do is move the seat forward and take the cover off
