You are an amazing artist! Anytime my mind thinks “hmm I wonder if this would work for that” or “hmm how do I do/use xyz “ I know I can search your channel and find the answers, and then some! Thank you for al the knowledge and inspiration you spread! 😊✌️🎨💜
Wow! I love that technique. I'm going to get my inktense pencils out. Beautiful work! Thanks for the video.
completely BEAUTIFUL design and colours!!!
Oh Lindsey you really are the best . I have watched a few people using intense pencils to colour on fabric and they really did not do them justice as they made it look to much like hard work and sadly not such inspiring results. You have redeemed them as you have shown how this can be a relatively easy approachable way to use the fab intense pencils - I cam only thank-you as always you are just so down to earth and so inspiring and joyful. Thank-you so very much xx
Thanks!
Yes us mommies need! You don't dare feel bad for taking done time! Happy crafting! Awesome project also!
Oh my gosh. l have a ton of canvas ATCs that I hadn't quite figured out what I was going to use on them. This is perfectly wonderful. You are such a wellspring of inspiration. God Bless you, Lady :)
Unbelievable ! How do you do it ? Are you psychic ?? I have just bought a whole heap of plain canvas bags which I hoped to do something arty/crafty with (?) and sell at craft fairs to raise money for rescue dogs and you have just shown me exactly how to decorate and embellish them with my new Inktense pencils and my paw print stamps !!! A million gazillion thanks :)
great idea, good luck!
Brilliant! Just what I needed to see. I have some designs on fabric to try and so far I've chickened out because I've not quite known how to go about it. You have just shown how easy it is to let rip with these pencils.
Wow you are amazing, I just got a set of 34 Inktense pencils with canvas wrap in the Cass Art sale in UK half price plus 20% off so excited didn’t know you can use them on fabric, what a bonus. Thanks You for all your great ideas you are an inspiration.
Love this! I bought a plain canvas apron at the dollar store and intend to paint it. Too blah for me the way it is. Even hubby looked at it and made a comment that it probably won't stay plain for long - he knows me too well! I don't have the intense pencils, just plain water colour ones. Maybe I'll just paint mine.
I raised three girls and yes, mommy sometimes needs a little time to herself! It never failed that every time I sat down to read the newspaper one of them would start tapping the paper saying "Mom. Mom. Mom" (like I couldn't hear through the paper?) Even if they were all outside playing, all I had to do was pick up the paper and there they were tapping it!!!!
if it won't be washed the plain pencils with fabric medium will be fine.
So creative! How fun, can't wait to try this. Lindsey, you are wise to know you need some time to renew yourself, all will benefit in the end!
Thanks. I have been learning about these for a couple of day as an alternative to other processes for creating my own art on fabric. I love art quilts... and I was doing art quilts before they were the new thing. Now I am finally in sync with the world and not before my time. LOL This is a great application, video, and I loved your energy. Subscribed!
I received my Inktense pencils for Christmas - so glad you made the tutorial. Looking forward to using these on fabric and with my stamps. First project is a Prima Doll stamp on some muslin for a project I have planned. You are just wonderful!
thank you! Enjoy your pencils!
Wonderful! I tried this same experiment to make somewhat smaller designs on handkerchiefs when I first got my intense and they have lasted beautifully for a couple years. I love your bolder application and now I will try that also!
That was really great how the color just popped. I never used pencils. I will have to try some simple things with them, Thanks for sharing all your talent. have a wonderful New Year.
This is a great video - as was the hand embossing ~ thanks!!!
Thanks for re-sharing. I had watched this but forgot can't wait to try this!
super cute...and the colors are so vivid!!!!! (pssst....anyone with the kids home for 2 weeks needs some quite "me" time :) )
Thanks Meli :) I was going bananas earlier LOL!
thefrugalcrafter . omg...quiet time ...not quite time!!!! :)
Really pretty. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice Lindsay! Love the simple procedure to get such a colorful end product. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!
Oh my goodness what a fab tutorial, thanks so much!
Thank you! Beautiful artwork and a very informational video!
thanks!
Wonderful idea and project!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much :)
Yes, and I love the pencils. Thank you. Not on an apron but on canvas.
What a great idea! Happy New Year!
Hi! First, thank you for being so generous and sharing your knowledge with us all!
I'm a silk artist and I'm trying Inktense blocks and pencils for my first time. I know that once it is wet then dry it adhere's permanently to whatever it is being painted on.
I'm wondering if you've ever painted on silk and if so, did you try these? If not, and you decide to try Inktense blocks & pencils, would you make a video of the experience?
Thank you in advance!
God Bless!!!
+ChiRho Studio I have never worked on silk, sorry:(
hi Linds
did u know that u dont have to sharpen the pencil to remove the medium stuck on the pencil ?? you can just rub the pencil on a cheap (inexpensive) emery board !! this will save that precious color that we pay for!! hugs!!& happy New year Dana
this is great! Thank you for sharing
Could you tutorial a Van Gogh starry night/exploding Tardis with fabric & Inktense?
Magical!
Love It!!! Was wondering what other products I could add that would be permanent - Dylusions sprays? Could you add a shimmer spray and make it permanent? I could use with stencils. What could I use as a resist for a batik look? Lots of fun ideas but not sure how to use products so they don't wash away. Thanks for a great fun project and Happy New Year!
You can use melted wax as a resist (batik) and iron it off when you are done and it will heat set the ink. I think the Ranger Adirondack color wash is permanent fro fabric but you can heat set a lot of inks with an iron if you do not have that.
Back stalking your Inktense/colored pencil videos. ;-). I've seen people paint fabric with plain old Prismacolors and then spread it around with fabric medium. I'll have to give that a try, maybe along with my 12 Inktense. Thanks for another amazing video! Oh PS, how did this hold up to a wash?
I haven't washed this but my cloth masks that I did not use mediym on washed great!
great idea, but there are better techniques for applying Inktense products to fabrics......
i i hope you have a wonderful and joyous year to come
So fun Lindsay! I don't have Inktense pencils but I do have watercolor pencils. Do you think those would work if I used the fabric medium the same way you did here?
I think they will work but I wouldn't wash it if I did not have to.
so you seem to have said that the paint on the stamp doesn't require to be fabric paint? just validating. thank you!
I am a quilter. Just ordered the Derwent Inktense Pencils. I want to do a background fabric for a collage I made. It is not too large. But the effect I'm going for is a color wash look to imitate a sunrise. I don't want real deep colors and want to save some white spaces for clouds. Do you think these pencils are what I should be using? I don't think I'll be able to lay down as much color as you did here because as I said, I want a faint color wash look.
If you are working on fabric and you want a light look id scribble the pencil on a palette and use a brush to apply so you can dilute it and not have lines. It should work tho.
@@thefrugalcrafter OK. Thanks for the advice! I'll play around with that. I was thinking I'd waste the pencils and that I should have gotten the sticks, but I'll try your idea first. Thanks so much!
MOD podge! I also hear Aloe Vera works
When you say heat set with an iron do you mean using steam? And directly on the fabric or using a layered surface onto of the painted fabric?
I do have a question for you. Can archival ink or the mixed media ink be used on fabric will not be washed? Something like a cloth canvas?
yes, just heat set it with an iron before you color:)
How pretty and colorful!! This is a must try project for me!! I am wondering where you got the leaf sprig. Is it a stamp and if so, where did you find it? I've been looking for a stamp like that.
oriental trading company:)
Hey Lindsay(:
I just want to say i really love your work! You inspire me all the time and i love how honest you are
I watched your videos about the inktense blocks - what do you recommend? What was more fun to use - the inktense pencils or the blocks?
I love using water soluble pastels (neocolorii, portfolio) so what do you think i should invest in?:)
Thank you so much have a great day!! (:
yarden2611 I think the pencils are a better buy and more useful
The ink in Derwent Inktense pencils is actually permanent when dry. It really doesn't need to be heat-set from my understanding.
Jane Knapp good to know!
I have experimented with "permanence" of Inktense on fabric and wanted to share my experience. It depends whether you are going to rinse/wash the fabric. What I found is that Inktense needs the fabric medium or similar acrylic "glue" to fix the colours to the fabric, otherwise the Inktense will fade out significantly when rinsed/washed. Heat setting is not sufficient to really fix the colours IF you want to be able to wash the fabric you are colouring. The Inktense colours do not completely rewet like watercolour; they will leave a permanent stain behind even when washed, but they definitely need to be worked into fabric with a fabric medium to be permanent for washing. I was surprised by this as I had read about the permanence of Inktense but I think the permanence refers more to the fact that if you are using Inktense as a water soluble medium, similar to watercolour, it will not completely rewet and lift like watercolour. It leaves a permanent mark, but the colours do not retain their intensity on fabric without the fabric medium to "glue" the pigment to the fibres. I work on fabric a lot and my favorite fabric medium is Golden GAC-900 textile medium because it stiffens the fabric a bit less than 3 others I have tried. On the other hand, the extra body the fabric medium adds to the fabric can be an advantage depending what you want to do with the fabric ultimately. :-) Anyway thanks for this great idea. I have a lot of Inktense pencils and blocks and love using them on fabric. They are beautiful colours and so vibrant.
I use aloe vera gel as the moistening agent and work the gel in with a short, stiff fabric brush.l
Deborah Giles thanks for sharing your testing;)
Retayne works, if you plan on making it last. I prefer to use professional products, for art work anyway.
Great tutorial...I appreciate your energy and generosity in sharing so much information :0). I have 2 questions for you....
1. Where did you get the stamp handle...love it!
2. I have inktense color blocks, will they work for this technique?
Thanks so much!
the stamp handle is Impression Obsession. It is expensive ($25) but it really makes stamping large or detailed stamps easy. Yes, you can use the blocks!
thefrugalcrafter . Thank You!
Could you use acrylic matte medium instead ?
does the pencil intense ink and the block inkintense respond the same way..as to permenancy and brightness etc? thank you
these are AH-MA-ZING! I need them. where in the usa can I get them?
I know ACmoore carries them but blick has the best price, I got mine with on a sale at blick, if you look up the the upper right hand corner of the website they will have daily coupon codes, I waited for a free shipping and 20% off orders over $99 so I could afford the big set:) www.dickblick.com/products/derwent-inktense-pencils/
Olá querida, tudo bem?
Gostei muito dos seus trabalhos , que produto você pulveriza sobre o desenho??? seria água? e o outro meio leitoso milk é cola com água???
it is water and I also used textile medium but I found out is not necessary. I hope that makes sense.
Curious, can the fabric be washed? Meaning is it that permanent?
Yes but I chose this because it probably won't need to be often:)
thefrugalcrafter . Thanks, good to know.
what is the difference between the pencils and those block inkintensives? thank you
Joanna Recine they are the same thing. :)
That's awesome no polish or fixative to protect it?
nope, it is fine:)
I am very confused about why you are saying you are needing fabric medium and heat to set the inktense pencils as they are permanent and INK, not paint. Derwant shows using plain water and just letting it dry naturally.
It's fine without the medium, the medium just gives it a bit more protection
noice!
nice happy 1 day before 2014
