Ohh its just oxidized cholesterol you need to worry about, or ohh my trig/HDL ratio is fine, so i'll be immune to heart disease even though LDL-C is an independent risk factor. Same nonsense the high carb vegans come out with as they often have poor trig/HDL ratios, but decent LDL/C-total cholesterol ratios, so they prey on that. No only excellent, meaningful and usable content, it is also delivered in a brief, pithy and time-efficient way, with that hallmark ever-so-slightly mischievous humor. Thanks Paul!
Great work. And well done Dr Paul for giving a commendation to Dr Malcolm Kendrick. All his books are excellent and he also has a blog that is well worth following.
I stumbled across Dr Mason a couple of weeks ago. I love how he explains the why, what and where of all factors. Even a layperson like myself can understand him.
Dr. Paul Mason is amazing at presenting complex science so the lay person can understand. I ate low-fat for 20 years to avoid my dad's heart disease. Lots of bran cereals and whole breads. Oops. That got me acute coronary artery disease in my 50s. So this info concerning plant sterols and seed oils in heart disease isn't surprising me.....
Wow. I gave up carbs after 7 years ago in a slow process at first. Moderate low carb to now ultra low carb < 5 to 10 g/day (accounting for naturally occurring carbs in liver and organ meats which I eat 1 to 2 times a week)
Eating brans and whole breads didn't give you heart disease lol Some other component of your diet contributed to this or mechanism, hyperhomocysteinemia from the lack of dietary vitamin B12 for methylation or so on. Whole grains are heart-healthy foods.
@@TheNaturalHealthBlogger Phytates in whole grains block nutrition absorption, and whole grain products will almost exclusively be made with unhealthy seed oils. The only reason it's considered heart healthy is because it lowers cholesterol.
Thanks Dr Paul - another corker.. great to see you getting onto this - from memory Kendrick and Ivor Cummins were banging out the glycation and clotting risk a few years back - hence the D3K2 mk7 meme for reversing plaque build up. Seeing the clear links and telling this story puts 'us' in the box seat for dealing with heart disease - bravo
Dr Mason with another iconoclastic and very well argued presentation. As seems to be typical in the history of science, those breaking old paradigms and introducing new thought are from outside the field (in this case Cardiology). A must watch for all medical students and junior doctors.
I am in absolute awe of Dr. Mason, he is such a good teacher and as a scientist i admire even more the way he explains. i'd watch anything he records, even commenting a rugby match
A great lecture which backs up the research by Dr Malcolm Kendrick in his book "The Clot Thickens". A must read in my opinion. He also mentions the special lipoprotein Lp(a), which is a key component of clots formed around arterial damage. When anyone previously found lipoprotein structures in plaques, they were almost certainly seeing Lp(a), and not LDL.
Always learn so much from Dr Mason. His presentations are very well structured and always the perfect length. His wealth of information is absolutely great, delivered clear and concisely.
Paul Mason, thank you so much for interpreting the data for us mere mortals. You are saving countless lives that you’ll never know about. Thank you thank you thank you
I hard a heart attack after a triathlon. Completed the race and after they put in 2 stents. They stated I was 20% blocked and thought some of the plaque broke off during the race and caused a blockage. That was 5 years ago. Now carnivore still racing and feel great. Paul gave me the information years ago to determine the root cause (diet). Something the doctors could not or would not tell me.
I'll tell you it was the training that caused mechanical stress on the arteries, which depleted vitamin C from the damaged artery. Want to know more? Check out Dr Thomas Levy's book "Stop America's #1 Killer " Proof that the Origin of All Coronary Heart Disease is Clearly Reversible Arterial Scurvy. My CAC has gone from 660 to 458. And if it has cleared hard calcium then clearing the plaque was nothing....
If you're a triathlete and worried about your well being, then I must be _that guy_ and inform you that this is a sport that will actually play _against_ you, not in your favor. Long endurance sports are now scientifically shown to be causes for heart disease, as well. They promote high doses of oxidative stress, can hypertrophy your heart, and give you worse health conditions. I know athletes (pro or amateur) love their sports and it sucks to say these words, but I thought you should know, especially after you already had a heart attack. What to do, then? Any physical activity that seeks for short-term, "explosive" bursts rather than endurance. HIT strength training and/or HIIT cardio will be much safer to your health.
Dr. Mason you do some of the best medical presentations here on UA-cam but this is perhaps one of your absolute best. Mind blowing information and detail at every minute. Thank you 🙏
Wow! The mechanisms revealed. Since there is no processing/manufacturing profit in the solution, the answers hide in plain sight from the general population. Dr. Mason is a master at explaining the known science which reveals the relevance of our health markers. 👏👏👏. 🙏🙏🙏 Doctors Mason and Kendrick.
Awesome lecture. There are simply too many medical practitioners, not only questioning the current cholesterol to heart disease narrative but also the standard diet we've been recommended for years. These caring individuals, who dared to challenge group think, are heroes in my humble opinion and directly influenced the start of my carnivore journey some 8 weeks ago. I am following their endeavors with the utmost interest and curiosity.
Thank you for explaining in such a clear and easy to follow manner. I have been listening to Malcolm Kendrick for a few years now and am ecstatic that other doctors are now espousing the clotting theory.
Brilliant presentation. Thank you. For those of us on "80/20 keto" (80% of calories from fat and 20% from protein), it is critically important to choose our fat sources very carefully. Even though olive, avocado and coconut oils have a better mono/poly/saturated fat profile than other plant oils, they still contain the problematic phytosterols.
Then why the Italians dont all have heart attacks?? They consume almost one liter of oil per person prr week . They consume lots of animals fat, maybe is the polyphenol in the wine keeps them healthy
And butter has a much better profile if it comes from pasture-raised animals. We can't forget the oily fish either that have the highest percentage of Omega-3
As Dr Kendrick has said many times. Any positive effect from Statins are likely due to blood thinning actions and not cholesterol lowering. Indeed, the lowering of cholesterol in the over 65s is detrimental to morbidity and mortality. With this in mind, statin trials should have been to compare statins to other cheap blood thinners/anticoagulants rather than placebo.
I had a doctor say it's a good anti inflammatory to help prevent ( a doc saying prevent using an anti inflammatory ?!) heart disease, since my cholesterol was not high !! What a joke !
This was a great lecture and gives me a lot to think about over time. Love this doctor and he always offers great material to have a your brain get some fantastic workouts! ❤
THANK YOU! I could write 1,000 words on why your research, production and posting of this material is so profoundly beneficial, but, I would merely be summarizing what you have presented within here. Being a chemist, with a good understanding of the biochemistry, your facts and logic are very sound, and, you put this into perspective really well. Thanks again!
Increase saturated fat decrease polyunsaturated fat. avoid seed oils, and pollution because they cause oxidative stress. Keep your blood glucose steady to decrease risk from oxidative stress. Thank you very much Dr. Mason
How do we monitor blood glucose without going to doctors? More, how are we going to stay on meats with the wave now of not eating it and farms being bought up so meat isn’t available?
So crazy... 6 years of animal fat eating (small plant consumption the first three... but no seed oils) and my HDL has gone from 43 to 83, and my trigs are down from 116 to 85. My LDL went from 180 to 313... and I couldn't be happier.
This happened to me, and my doctor panicked and wanted to put me on statins. Every time I do statins, my good HDL goes down when my cholesterol level drops. Before statins I had very low triglycerides also. What doesn't my doctor understand?
@@Lovecruzin1 Reduce your carbs to 50 grams a day, stop eating sugar, bread, pasta, rice, margarine, canola oil, soy oil, corn oil, potato chips, french fries, or any other processed food. Instead eat pasture raised eggs, meat, fish, vegetables, salads, and use real organic olive oil, avocado oil, and cook with lard. Do Intermittent Fasting by skipping breakfast and instead make lunch your first meal of the day at noon, then have dinner at 5:00, and no snacking at any other time. After I stopped taking statins and started do the Keto diet, my Triglycerides went from 269 down to 64 and my HDL went from 40 to 53. I have not felt this good in years.
So you improved two markers, but as usual have off the charts LDL-C to a potential unhealthy level. Trading one risk factor for another due to imbalanced extreme all meat/animal food/excessive saturated fat, zero fiber, no healthy whole plant dangerous nonsense.

This is Dr. Mason's best and most important talk (and that's saying something). He really connects the dots here, starting with the foundation set by Dr. Kendrick. Both have helped in forming a unifying theory of heart disease. Now, will the broader medical community admit its errors and revise its guidelines? I doubt it.
Incredible! Excellent presentation. Might you have info on the use of K2/Nattokinase for those with high risk factors? Unable to find discussions/articles. Thank you.

Is there a transcript of this presentation ? Dr. Mason is my hero; he gives precise, researched explanations, connects the dots that be connected... My next cardiologist appointment is 24 days from now. I stopped taking statins (yes, AMA), and this might be a come-to-Jesus appointment. I've been working with said cardiologist to reduce my BP and diabetes meds, because five months on a carnivore diet, my A1c has dropped from 13% to 5.8%, and my BP (which was never really in the hypertensive range) dropped down as low as 70/30, 88/54 ...

Fantastic information! You deserve a medal for joining the dots on this! I think we were all blaming seed oils, but you have nailed the science now and hopefully this can get out and agreed by the dogmatic vegans!
This should be mandatory watching for all medicine students :) As for plant sterols, judging from populations like the Tokelau natives, it would appear that coconut oil in large quantities is perfectly healthy in a pre-agricultural environment. I wonder if there is some kind of catalyst that changes that. And considering how fast they turned diabetic after being introduced to high-carb foods, my money would be on glucose or possibly lectins.
Also plant sterols have been known to reduce ldlc which is what is one of the main things in arterial plaque as well as reduce the chance for breast cancer so they aren't all bad, after all even fiber reduces nutrient absorption but doesn't eliminate it and eating these things with meat while cooking them solves most of the problems associated with them while having them raw has a lot of issues. There's a reason humans cook and can access stuff in food that many other creatures can't. Of course overdoing it leads to problems just like overdoing any kind of food without balance it out with something else
Thank you so much for this! I'm a huge fan of Malcolm Kendrick's work but haven't yet read his recent book. I will be! Amazing content so please keep it coming 🙏
I need a good study to send my cardiologist. She said she’s read all reputable studies and wants to see where I’m getting my opinions about LDL & statins. Is this one of the best to send her please? I’m really bad about understanding the studies when I read them. I listen and learn, but can’t send her to UA-cam. Anyone? Thank you! Thank you Dr Mason you explain it so thoroughly and I can easily understand
What you have watched is a doctors opinion, not the results of scientific studies. Your cardiologist has studied cardiac health and treated numerous patients and probably knows more about cardiac health than a sports physician.
I'd like to know more above Dr Mason's view of olive oil. It has some of the highest antioxidants in its EVOO form, seems to be one of the lower options for plant sterols, and some evidence for cancer apoptosis. We don't cook with it but use it cold.
Amazing presentation 👏. I always like watching Dr. Paul Mason videos. The information provided is so powerful & well put together, the arguments of proving the real cause of heart disease is consuming vegetable/seed oil. I stopped eating seed oil for more than 1 year & have been eating saturated fat, & I feel fantastic. Thanks Dr. Mason. You are my hero. 👍🥰
Thank you for an excellent presentation on this topic! I highly recommend Malcolm Kendrick's book "A Clot Thickens". The Audible version is also an enjoyable listen... Perhaps some of the crystals in plaques are calcium oxalate (monohydrate) as they also have a similar shape. There was a study of atherosclerotic plaques in patients that died of HIV that showed a significant amount of calcium oxalate crystals in the plaques. The researchers were looking for it. Routine pathology staining would not have identified it. It would be interesting to see research done to determine the crystal type. If the fresh plaque was processed using a different method, the crystals wouldn't dissolve and could be examined using special stains (Alizarin red).
Here is a ChatGPT summary: - Dr Paul Mason's lecture is about the fairy tale that saturated fat causes heart disease. - 75% of patients hospitalised for heart attack did not have high LDL. - Blood clots are central to the development of atherosclerosis and a key risk factor for heart disease. - High triglycerides and low HDL are associated with an increased risk of blood clotting. - Oxidation is a major cause of heart disease and can damage the glyco calyx, a protective barrier against clotting. - High and fluctuating blood glucose levels, as occurs in diabetes, generates oxidation and increases clot risk. - Seed oils are prone to oxidation and contain phytosterols, which can interfere with normal biochemical processes and form crystals in atherosclerosis. - Red blood cells contain more free cholesterol and plant sterols than any other cell in the body - Consumption of plant foods, especially seed oils, has been shown to result in plant sterol accumulation in red blood cell membranes at the expense of cholesterol - Seed oil intake has been linked to a greater incidence of death than sugar when it exceeds 6% of energy in the diet - Polyunsaturated fat intake began to rise in the early 1900s, which is likely a causal role in the epidemic of heart disease that followed - Replacing saturated fat with seed oil has been found to increase mortality in three large scale randomised control trials - Lowering saturated fat intake is associated with an increased risk of heart disease - Seed oil intake increases the risk of death - Plant sterols reduce blood levels of LDL by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine - Coconut oil is a plant oil and contains sterols, which is why it drops LDL levels - Statins inhibit blood clotting pathways and inhibit the release of plaque destabilising matrix metalloproteinases, but have side effects such as an increased risk of brain bleeding and diabetes - The lipid hypothesis has been argued against by Malcolm Kendrick, who has been cancelled by Wikipedia - Factors that increase clotting risk include oxidation, pollution, seed oil consumption, and blood glucose levels
Awesome! Just finishing The Clot Thickens by Dr Malcolm Kendrick. Going to give it and a link to this video to my DO. You’d think this topic would make for dry reading, but you would be wrong. It’s been at times funny and very informative read for this accountant. Most relevant to me, however, is Chapter 15, Keeping Cardiovascular Disease at Bay. If you are familiar with Ivor Cummins, you know what I mean.
Nice. I’ve been on 80% carnivore diet now for two months and so much has changed. After two days all eating cravings just disappeared leaving me with sufficient energy to go about my day and best of all lower the heating cost as my core temperature is more stable as in less hot flashes or cold-spells. Heating cost kill financially in the Netherlands at the moment. On a side note government just prohibited make advertisements at bus and tram stops for fish or meat.
Thank- you for sharing about lowering of the heat. I too am following a more carnivore diet. I get up in the morning and was wondering why when the furnace is at 65, I feel comfortable and don't need to turn the heat up. Its this amazing way of eating lifestyle.
Also could you please let my cardiologist know about this? I stopped all the statins etc at 6 months, resumed NAC. he refused to see me- looked at me like I was dead!🙏
I've moved to portioning out my beef tallow and ghee(since they both come in big jars) into smaller containers. I leave the bulk of it in the fridge to prevent it oxidizing as easily. And I leave out on the counter enough to use in a reasonable timeframe and stay good. I mean, it makes sense right? Keep it stable longer! In summer I've had it all melt in the cabinet and wondered about that when I was less knowledgeable, but instinctivly linked the liquid saturated fats with the liquid pufas. I realized it probably wasn't good. Meanwhile I put a bottle of olive oil in the fridge because I wasn't going to use it for a while, and since its mostly monounsaturated fat, I guess it just completely hardens up, which makes for issues to use it haha. But it really made me think a lot. Also food for thought at the end with coconut oil vs butter and how maybe its more than just oxidation.
What an eye opening video. It confirms my suspicions. I feel way better when I eat animal fat. A friend has stopped eating anything with vegetable oils, cooks using butter and ghee. Has lost three stones, has drastically reduced his diabetes meds and hopes to come off them entirely soon. His face looks radiantly healthy compared with a year ago. Never trusted statins, yet the UK govt. wants to push it on millions more people. WEF want us to stop eating meat. So much push in the wrong direction.

Which would be the absolute polar opposite of how you'd want to eat if you had atherosclerosis.
I mean zero fiber etc, that alone missing out on all the cardio-metabolic benefits is moronic, not surprising these types have off the charts LDL-C and other poor lipid/cholesterol biomarkers, that they have to then endlessly trying to sit justifying as if its ok, to the point of outright dangerous science denial of LDL-C.
Even though low cholesterol can be just as problematic.
Brilliant. I've read Dr Kendrick's book and am thrilled other doctors are following these investigations.
Which of his books do you recommend first? Thank you

Excellent video just subscribed. I am from down under Geelong :) I'm a female in my 50's got diagnosed with type2 D a few years ago, I was put on high blood pressure medicine, high cholesterol and diabetic medicine and last year found the Keto Life way of eating and Carnivore and up till now I have Lost around 25kilos and stopped all my medication and even reversed my type2D even though one of my doctors told me I was in the wrong and that I was going to have a heart attack. I am feeling better then ever before. We need this information out there for everyone to know. Thank you
No only excellent, meaningful and usable content, it is also delivered in a brief, pithy and time-efficient way, with that hallmark ever-so-slightly mischievous humor. Thanks Paul!
Again, so professional explanation on the real causes of heart disease. Thank you so much dr Paul Mason
Definitely food for thought; so glad he shines a light on censorship in this time of authoritarianism & tyrannical public health policies
Great work. And well done Dr Paul for giving a commendation to Dr Malcolm Kendrick. All his books are excellent and he also has a blog that is well worth following.
I suggest every video of Doctor Mason. He is a lifesaver.
My "go-to" authority. It helps that he is not at all authoritarian, just calmly and cheerfully presents the evidence.
@@terraflow__bryanburdo4547 I like how he doesn't talk down to the listener.
I stumbled across Dr Mason a couple of weeks ago. I love how he explains the why, what and where of all factors. Even a layperson like myself can understand him.
Great lecture. I went low carb keto carnivore almost 2 years ago. Saved my life. Thanks to Dr. Paul Mason and the other folks at Low Carb Down Under.
Thanks for sharing @jonmoceri - can I ask if you went from high heart calcium test results to lower on low carb/keto carnivore?
Excellent, well done Paul. Malcolm Kendrick will be pleased 👍🏻 Especially with the mention at the end 😍
Just evil how they try to cancel him.
I am confused with the term oxidation and how it is applied here and with building muscle. Can you help?
Eating brans and whole breads didn't give you heart disease lol
Some other component of your diet contributed to this or mechanism, hyperhomocysteinemia from the lack of dietary vitamin B12 for methylation or so on.
@@TheNaturalHealthBlogger care to share any studies that prove that whole grains are heart healthy? Not food surveys either
You never cease to amaze me! THANKS, Paul 👍
You are an Absolute Legend Paul. Total Respect for All that you and others at Low Carb Down Under do for All of us. 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏
This information and presentation deserves at least 10 million views 👏👏👏
I am in absolute awe of Dr. Mason, he is such a good teacher and as a scientist i admire even more the way he explains. i'd watch anything he records, even commenting a rugby match
Wonderful talk. Real facts about heart disease and not the establishment quackery.
It's certainly about time!
The grift is being exposed, albeit too slowly.
It's a theory.
That makes a lot of sense.
Is his book easy to comprehend if not a medical person? Thank you!
@@catriamou It is very readable. Like talking to a friend.

Not surprised
Thank you for these lectures. May I suggest adding the links to lectures 1 & 2 in the description box?

It's a wonder it hasn't been removed as it threatens the biggest money maker for Big Pharma.
Can we all admit that Mason is the best presenter? Good. I'm glad we agree.
This guy is brilliant. Thank you for this presentation - very reasoned and compelling!
Thank god for men like Dr Paul Mason
I'd love to hear Paul Mason's opinion on where clot related heart attacks went up by 324% in the UK in 2022.
He would be removed from Big Brother Y.T. if that happened.
Beef tallow and ghee is the more healthy option compared to oil.
Then why the Italians dont all have heart attacks?? They consume almost one liter of oil per person prr week . They consume lots of animals fat, maybe is the polyphenol in the wine keeps them healthy
@@redpillthinking6043 Butter up, buttercup.
And butter has a much better profile if it comes from pasture-raised animals. We can't forget the oily fish either that have the highest percentage of Omega-3
Your confusion begins with "better mono/poly/saturated fat profile". False assumption.

Dr. Mason.. again you have blown my mind. Well done.
Well!! More fascinating info from our brilliant Dr Mason………. From Melbourne
Thank you for a most insightful presentation. Also thank you for your endorsement of Malcolm Kendrick's book, which is a fantastic read.
@@GREATTECH1 ask for an LPP+ test, what matters is low ApoB count and low oxidized LDL
I just had my cholesterol done yesterday, HDL 83, Triglycerides 135, LDL was 216…….what should I do?

Best lecture I've EVER seen on CVD causes. Very thorough explanation👍! Wow
This is Dr. Mason's best and most important talk (and that's saying something). He really connects the dots here, starting with the foundation set by Dr. Kendrick. Both have helped in forming a unifying theory of heart disease. Now, will the broader medical community admit its errors and revise its guidelines? I doubt it.
It would cost Big Pharma $ Billions so, I don't think so, they probably prefer people sick but alive enough to require mass prescriptions for life.
Incredible! Excellent presentation.
Might you have info on the use of K2/Nattokinase for those with high risk factors? Unable to find discussions/articles. Thank you.

Again, best channel for info, thank you Dr. Mason!
This should be mandatory watching for all medicine students :)
As for plant sterols, judging from populations like the Tokelau natives, it would appear that coconut oil in large quantities is perfectly healthy in a pre-agricultural environment. I wonder if there is some kind of catalyst that changes that. And considering how fast they turned diabetic after being introduced to high-carb foods, my money would be on glucose or possibly lectins.
Some of the coconut oil I have seen were "partially hydrogenated" on the small print at the back.
They are tribes which consume primarily carbs and are just as healthy, I'm pretty sure whatever it is has to do with seed oils

That was a super interesting talk. Thank you Dr Mason.
This is an excellent lecture.
Just as all his others are full of fascinating and useful information.
Fantastic as always. Have to keep hoping that the truth will one day become mainstream.
what about walnut oil and pure olive oil?, because i take one table spoon of each everyday and now i dont know what to do
Pure olive oil/extra virgin olive oil is not a vegetable seed oil.
Just think how many foods in the grocery stores and restaurants contain seed oils! It’s actually quite crazy.
Thank you dr mason : this is the best explanation of heart disease and if you don't mind i'm showing this to my doctor. So thank you very very much

So informative, thank you Dr. Mason. Just finished reading ‘The Clot Thickens’ by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, which ties in with Dr. Mason’s talk.
Here is a ChatGPT summary:
- Dr Paul Mason's lecture is about the fairy tale that saturated fat causes heart disease.
- Red blood cells contain more free cholesterol and plant sterols than any other cell in the body
- Consumption of plant foods, especially seed oils, has been shown to result in plant sterol accumulation in red blood cell membranes at the expense of cholesterol
- Seed oil intake has been linked to a greater incidence of death than sugar when it exceeds 6% of energy in the diet
- Polyunsaturated fat intake began to rise in the early 1900s, which is likely a causal role in the epidemic of heart disease that followed
- Replacing saturated fat with seed oil has been found to increase mortality in three large scale randomised control trials
- Lowering saturated fat intake is associated with an increased risk of heart disease
- Seed oil intake increases the risk of death
- Plant sterols reduce blood levels of LDL by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine
- Coconut oil is a plant oil and contains sterols, which is why it drops LDL levels
- Statins inhibit blood clotting pathways and inhibit the release of plaque destabilising matrix metalloproteinases, but have side effects such as an increased risk of brain bleeding and diabetes
- The lipid hypothesis has been argued against by Malcolm Kendrick, who has been cancelled by Wikipedia
- Factors that increase clotting risk include oxidation, pollution, seed oil consumption, and blood glucose levels
Anything an accountant reads probably seems "funny" at times. Joking of course.
Excellent video and information. Probably the best articulation on the topic yet. 100% keep it up.
Awesome video. Such an amazing speaker.
That's crazy and scary about banning meat advertising! My government in Canada is headed in the same direction.
Sounds like they are trying to "thin the herd".
Also could you please let my cardiologist know about this?

That's awesome. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?
How much did the CAC test cost?
