I know a great many surgeons, all of whom retired early because they saw what he insurance companies were up to doing. Because I am 76 years old I also know a fair number of General Practitioners. One of them ignored his insurance companies mandates to find the damage in my spine by ignoring it. OJ. To be honest they just wanted an x-ray to show arthritis and send me home with aspirin. Turns out I have a much worse condition which he found an MRI. He was not certified for the following year. It took 80% of his clients out of his practice. He was devastated. So were his patients. He retired early and went to work in a practice that was crying for Doctors and was paid by the community he served. Boy was that a pain; for him, for me and everyone involved it was an actual failure of the system "writ large."

This is an eye opening presentation! Several years ago, I took statins on my doctor’s recommendation. After about a year, my body felt like Muhammad Ali had used me for a punching bag. I stopped the statins and it took almost a year before I felt normal again. When I reported this to him, he was not happy; but I was because I felt better. Still, every year he measures my lipids and every year he recommends statins. Every year, I respond that I would be willing to discuss statins with him, to which he gives me a lifeless smile, closes his laptop and moves on to his next patient.

Joe Curtis, I'd find a new doctor if I were you. The only weapon in your doctor's toolkit appears to be to use the 10 year risk of heart attack score (a complete BS measure) and prescribe a statin if your "risk" number is over 10%, which it is for virtually everybody over age 60 since age is a big component of the score. He obviously can't explain the science or he would have a discussion with you. I had a GP do that with me after a physical 3 years or so ago, and the nurse said I'd have to make another appointment to discuss the statin recommendation, which I had refused. I haven't been back.

When I first said "no, I wont take them" he was literally lost for words and just stared at me. I had also been on TRT for 6 months (through an online clinic" and when I told him this he was shocked and says "I want you to stop that, its going to kill you". So... he and I dont have the best relationship now. Oh, and in the same visit I told him I was doing carnivore.... you can imagine the look on his face. So ya... he thinks I'm insane. 6 months later all my blood counts have improved greatly and ive lost 35lbs... i reversed metabolic syndrome and pre-diabetes and dropped my triglycerides from a heart attack inducing 8 to 1... HBA1C back to the 'good' zone and ALT to healthy numbers as well.... and he ignores all of it and all he cares about is that I am taking his statins :(

My anecdotal comment is of a friend of mine who died of pancreatic cancer. He was a dentist, very fit and proactive in health matters. He had an annual check up and had elevated cholesterol. He was never close to being overweight but lost more weight and went on statins. He went from being healthy and vibrant looking to almost frail appearing. I was concerned about him. One day he calls me and tells me he has pancreatic cancer of which he died in six weeks. I have wondered whether there might be a connection with statins because he actually seemed to decline after he started them. Of course, there is no proof of a connection but as a pathologist, I have never been a big fan of statins. There is something disturbing about the band wagon effect big pharm has on standard medical practice. I feel as though studies, journals, medical boards, and best practices can be tainted by the money big pharm throws around. As far as I am concerned, the same thing has happened with MRNA vaccination for Covid.

As a life long Houstonian, I am proud that we have such a brilliant cardiologist as Dr. Ali in our area. He has used his time so generously to not only give such enlightening presentations, but he has also been hosting his own low carb conference in Houston, where he has invited many of the illustrious speakers that have been featured on this channel.
Given that Houston is an obesity and diabetes hotspot, Dr. Ali is providing a valuable service and should be lauded for his efforts. Hopefully, the COVID-19 lock down protocols will be relaxed by the end of the year so that Dr. Ali can host another conference this year. If he does, I implore you to come. In no other arena have I felt so intellectually enriched.
The three days spent at his conference last year were worth more to me than all the years I spent at my university doing undergraduate and post graduate work.

Dr. Ali has to be one of the best speakers I’ve ever heard. I know other Doctor Who has have referred to some of what he has talked about. It is refreshing to see a Doctor Who is honest and tells you the negatives as well as the positives of any medication. Also nice to see somebody advocating for patients doing their own research and taking responsibility for their own health outcomes. You would think common sense everyone would be aware of the potential conflicts of the funding behind a lot of his studies but many people are too lazy to look any deeper. A great video! An ethical doctor! A refreshing change.

I eat very healthy, weight is 150 lbs, no heart disease, fish vegeterian, no diabetes, non somker/drinker, get lots of exercise, feel great. My LDL is 147, Total is 205, HDL is 45, Triglycerides>150. I need to hear a very convincing argument with hard data on how statins will prevent me from getting heart disease and a heart attack. Until that data comes in, I am not taking any statins. Had not been going to the doc regularly for a lot of years. I go and they tell me i have high bp, its genetic and i need a pill. UA-cam medicine - low carb and fasting got my bp down.

Very informative and helpful for clinicians and patients alike! Thank you for bravely speaking truth. For those of us struggling to raise HDL, after years of arthritis I am better on a keto and psmf diet but still not able to to do high intensity training-any thoughts on additional ways to improve HDL. And thank you for not calling cholesterol good or bad or lousy and happy it insults our intelligence. I would love to hear what you eat for heart health too.

There is a saying if someone invent a drug that improve HDL could win a Nobel Prize. There is no such drug or direct food that could improve HDL BUT there is an agent that is associated with HDL improvement which is vitamin B3 (Niacin). You may take Tuna and Mushroom to get Tons 9f it. Yoga improves HDL too.

Have used for 17 years flax oil (barlean’s organic) excellent supplement for overall health.. comes in a bottle, not pill form.. dated, cold pressed oil, found in freezer section..mixes well in smoothie.. good buttery taste, can drizzle over veggies. Also use one many of us as kids grew up on… cod liver oil (Carlson’s) old brand around since 1940’s great source Omega3, rich Vit. A, for joints… cardiovascular health.. it comes in lemon* no fishy taste.. good stuff!😊 💪🏼
