I am so greatful for you, J0hn! I can’t really play many games that my friends are playing due to me not having a console or computer and this play through is really helping me feel like I’m playing a game. Thankyou J0hn! Keep up the good work!
T5 seats have bearing angle control, might wanna try that for power steering. Please use lightgray light inside your storage areaplace...it's too dark at night. :)
Ive driven truck for better than 20 years now and i think you did a great job. I have a couple ideas myself 4 a 5th wheel design but havent built up themats to implement it yet. Honestly the gooseneck design you got going on looks much simpler and less problematic. Your technical knowledge of the game mechanics has been a great help in my own creations
This build is amazing. Minor details are wrong but you can not tell from a distance. I drove truck for years and had to inspect my truck ad had to inspect it twice a trip. John please keep up the quantity of your series. I love it! Your presentation style is fantastic! You have a new fan!
something i have noticed is that if you take the paint tool and paint the lights white they seem to actually give off more light ... it just gets brighter in the room. your basement could use that for visibility.
Nice Kenworth. ;) I built a Boxy survival fully featured semi but I may rip it apart and do more of this kinda design. A few things I've added to mine which I'd love to share include 1.. Interior Courtesy Light (Stays Illuminated for 6 seconds when cab doors open) 2.. Indicators (Auto Flash with sensors corresponding to turn direction) 3.. A slow, full length level 5 piston triggers 12 sensors which then get Logic Gated to play Green tote bot heads to the Dukes of Hazard "Dixie" airhorn tune. One more Level one piston was needed to get the last note. 4.. Brake lights operated by pendulum motion of a concrete 3 block (moves to a ~30 degree sensor) sensor is on a curve pipe offset on a bearing. ( unfortunately brake lights also come on during down hill descents ) 5.. Just had an idea to use a controller, More sensors and More logic blocks to incorporate reverse beeper, Reverse lights and inhibit brake lights when accelerating using a W , S converter. 6.. A sleeper cab with a sensor so bed doorway opens up so I can leap back into the action if I just Died therefore omitting the chance of attacking bots from destroying my seat and waving bye bye to hours of creation.
To improve the turning speed you could do what I call fake differential. Connect the left and right gears to different controllers then, with a WASD converter, have the inner gears turn off when turning. That way the left and right wheels will turn at different speeds and you'll turn easier.
another way of doing that additional suspension without losing gears, if you don't mind covering the wheels (good for wider vehicles) put suspension on the outside of the wheel and attach that to the wheel via a free spinning bearing
the reason why your having trouble getting out with tight tolerances (ie only just high or wide enough) is that when u test it on a lift or on a completely horizontal surface its fine, but if your vehicle is on a slope, when u get out your not on a slope, so your perfect rectangle hit box is hitting a tilted hitbox. steering issue is cause bearings don't allow free movement, so its like driving with locked diffs.
Wicked a fix for the Bearing driven vehicle. I could not for the life of me work out from 2 picture what that guy did to fix it. Welding the axle to the wheels is what he never explained. Ty for posting this fix & how to do it properly. I had no idea that blocks can go though blocks with no collision ether. Only got the game a week ago & dam there is a lot to learn.
i think piston steering would negate that floppiness of the steering bearing, and also allow you to have the front wheel drive. piston steering is pretty easy to make, it just takes a little bit of extra space. you make a bar, attach the wheel to the center of the bar and put pistons on the opposite side that the wheel is on. a few people made videos on it if you want to check that out. the semi is looking really cool especially for vanilla.
just a thought, but for ease of access along with cool points, you could create a garage for you vehicles and a large elevator to it so your not always having to struggle up a hill or something.
I love the truck =) I followed your chassis and drive design for my 'explorer' vehicle. I was wondering if you would be willing to do a short tutorial vid on how to make a good sturdy hitch? I really appreciate your videos a lot. It has made my play experience so much better, watering system, vehicles, machines... love it, thank you!
Make th cab 1 or 2 blocks higher. It make it easy to get out of your seat, and it'd make the truck look more realistic. Also maybe try to fit a bed in front of Bob so; 1 you sleep next to Bob, and 2 you can spawn in your truck if you end up dying, also the cab looks like it'd be a sleeper truck anyways.
I made a semi (well, still working on it but with this configuration on the bearing drive it might work in survival now) but I made the engine compartment with a hinge on top and dropped a bed in there, you can see it through the grille. lol
I found that Twenty Bearings in a row, using two controllers, created maximum torque. You could only set the First controller, for the first ten bearings to max. The second HAD to be set one tick lower. If set to max, rubber banding madness forever!!! The furthest two bearings go from each other while still attached was almost half the map height. LOL My thought is the second the torque overcomes the friction, everything comes apart, but since it doesn't cause durability damage/break, the game tries to keep it glued together. However, the banding stretch it causes a cascade failure in the shock absorber effects. This causes everything to go haywire pretty much permanently until the system is reset to zero state.(lift)
You did a great job on that truck, though its a little off of course. The cabin would be a little taller, and the windows would be about a block or two higher than where they are now. Of course the exhaust would not be connected to the gas tank, but you pointed that out yourself in the video. Usually there are steel steps and rails to help drivers get in of course as well, but me pointing these things out is just nit picking... But this is a game and not real life, so I do not ever expect anyone to be 100% correct lol. Even with all those small things, you still did an amazing job on this truck, so keep up the good work :)
I love your videos and your builds. Coming from a trucker thats a great truck I would suggest the sides of the cab behind the exhaust pipes be lined up with the edge of the pipe so its wider then the front
There are actually 4 of the rectangular lights in the ship, although, they are all ambient & not actual lights. There is 1 by each bed in back, & also, on either side of the entrance , on the very inside.
I made half semi half scout 6 wheeler - minimalist metal 3 design (trying to gather paint to finish black paint job), 2 first wheels are loaded with 2 l. chests and 6 regular chests at the back. LVL 5 seat for better turning angle and now 2 saddles for passengers (I'm thinking to dump saddles and put there a drill arm)
You should put the steering bearing directly above the wheel, have a pipe bending back into the body to a suspension price and a few bearings for drive leading back out to the wheel beneath the steering bearing. Making a C shape. If you're not sure what I mean, check out kAN's video where he builds the semi for the first time...
I figured out a cool way to control the super torque if you want to give it a shot. I use this trick when i'm trying to not fly all over with the bearings engine.
John when playing survival: has big fuel free truck and a base Me when playing survival: has no base but builds a detailed bughatti chirron that wasted a ton of fuel
Using the same principle you used in the back you can give the front wheels a steering bearing that is only 1 block removed from the wheel like in traditional setups. Then it will have more steering angle when you add a body. If you do that you can also give it the same amount of powered bearings so the front wheel speed matches the rear wheel speed and you get more grip in the front. It seems like the front is rotating at a different speed forcing it to slip.
Hey John, I recently got this game and your videos have been extremely helpful as well as very entertaining. Really love the effort you put into getting the aesthetics right on your builds. Always looking forward to future content. Thanks!
When I did 2 wheels that close together - one wheel would intermittently power the other causing zero speed or backwards motion if one went off the ground. a space between was helpful.. then again I'm using around 8 plus bearings.
HEY! your steering can be improved so no floppiness happens, just connect both front from wheels where steering is present with vertical bearings perpendicular to the wheels so the wheels arent floppy and the suspension can compress too.
Trucks in Europe have back wheels to turn , in America when you want to have more steering in a rig when you have four axles the first one in the back you would make it turn
Ok I'm just gonna go around all the youtubers and explain exactly how these "glitchy" farmers work. When you initially come acroas them you cant take them into your inventory. You have to manually pick them up and deliver them to rhe trader. After they respawn you can just take them into your inventory.
I did 3 heads for my horn with different frequencies to make a simulated airhorn. I also have it turn on the lights ( or logic between light switch and horn button ).
The only thing keeping me from running a controller powered vehicle is how the thing will keep on going OR start rolling backwards when you try to stop.
Nice dude! I intend to make a hauler modeled after that one military vehicle that has the cab over/forward of the front 4 steering wheels, with 8 drive wheels in back as dualies. Idea is that that will place a lot of weight over the steering wheels for traction, with plenty of room to hook up a trailer to be supported by the back.
Normal people: You can't just exploit the speed of controllers to get a high power engine that doesn't take fuel!
John: heehoo tork
TORQUE GANG
Diesel for the win lol
hehoo tork go WRAAAAAAAAAAAM

But all I want for Christmas is an effective vehicle.
That’s a really nice semi
I am sure he's thankful for the compliment, blue bearing.

Blue bearing = slow
Red bearing = fast
So your a slow bearing

You should make a elevator garage so it's easier than putting it on a lift and drop, plus it would look cool!
He might but remember about moving parts in big builds. Also he's still in the shell stage of his base.
I wonder if there is enough torque in his power set up to allow an 'elevator car' to drive straight up a shaft.
The compact, suspension-available controller method john is using, is just GENIUS. Simplicity that works, it couldn't be better

You should put holes in the roof of your semi so you can easily get out
Or raise the roof by one block, which would also allow for a bed on the ceiling above the aquarium.
I would have put a simple sway bar on the front to keep the wheels going the same direction.
could always make the drive wheels section completely bend, so that your truck bends in half to steer :)
