The texture you added really takes these relatively flat, boring wall boards into a whole new dimension ... literally! LOL! Love how they turned out, Deborah.
Thank-you Deborah for showing us a new way to accent a wall. Using joint compound really makes the faux brick panel look like a brick wall. Now I know how to make my kitchen look beautiful in my small home!!!
Deborah….you have the patience of a saint! You explained how to do this very well. I can imagine that all the layers took a lot of time to achieve. Your painting techniques never fail to impress! Did you learn all these techniques by trial and error, or did you have some formal art or design education? Your wall looks so real! Just sitting over here applauding! 👏👏👏👏👏 You are amazing!
Hi Linda! Thank you so much! I have taught myself through trial and error, but I definitely had a lot of fun along the way. As far as the brick technique goes, I watched so many faux brick wall tutorials online, but I didn't see anything that looked real unless it was expensive thin brick. I came up with this method and I love it. I am happy with how the wall turned out! If you saw it in person and touched it, you would never know it wasn't real. Thank you, again, for your kind words and support! Xoxoxo, Deborah
When I watch the way your hand lightly taps each brick with loving care, I can sense your innate artistic talent! 😍🎨 Seeing that its the first time working this technique you did an excellent job! In fact, I can't imagine it looking any better! Isn't that the way it goes though, your technique gets better after you've made a few mistakes and understand the subtle nuances of the products, colors, and lighting. This hand made piece of art will bring you much pride and happiness! Outstanding!! 🏆👍🎀 Please keep these instructions posted. I may not be able to try it out until next summer. I want to paint a natural faux stone wall in my kitchen. I will use more of the texture as you advised. Thank you!! 🦋😊
The best faux brick wall I've ever seen. Your attention to detail makes this wall a stunning focal point. I can't wait to see your kitchen reveal with all the beautiful decor. TFS this tutorial and have an amazing weekend. 🧡
Good morning from your neighbors in Virginia! I have always wanted brick walls in my home. Maybe now I can! You make everything look so easy!! Love your style!!
I have the same brick panel and it looks to pink next to my granite. Thanks for showing me with mixing joint compound with color. I love love your wall. Thanks for sharing
Hey Terry! It definitely has a pink and purple tone to it! It should be easy to adjust the color to coordinate with your granite! Best of luck and let me know! Xoxoxo
What an absolutely incredible brick wall. It is perfect, SO much depth & yet it melds so well with everything else in your kitchen. Thank you for sharing this. 🥰
Hi Deborah, i really like your wall. You did a great job and it did add coziness to your room, very pretty. Looking forward to your next video. Have a great rest of your weekend, hugs! 💕
Forgot to tell you I really enjoy your videos. Especially the painting videos because you are very talented painting. I loved the bunny rabbit you painted maybe a few years ago.
Thank you! I still have that Chef Bunny! I really enjoy just sitting down and having a painting day. It is relaxing and fun. I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! Thank you for watching. Xoxoxo
Thank you so much for sharing your talent, tips & tricks with us! Your eye for color is spot on! The wall in your kitchen just warms your home up, especially for the upcoming fall & winter seasons. Hey Connie! You are so welcome! I'm working on more projects to share and will be decorating soon. I agree! This weather doesn't exactly have me wanting to build a fire and grab a blanket. 😆 Not yet, anyway. I'm so glad you liked how the brick wall turned out! I am STILL searching for some comfortable furniture for the keeping area. Patience is key, I suppose. Have a wonderful weekend. I need to get by Sweet Simplicity soon... Xoxoxo
Excellent tutorial. The wall turned out fabulous. I agree with you how brick warms a space. It really brings weight and stability which in turn gives you that cozy secure feeling when you are in a room. Love it! God bless 😊
That looks just beautiful Deborah! I love how everything turned out. So so beautiful. I can't wait for your next video as I truly enjoy your decorating inspirations and your choice of items is so clearly like mine. Blessings
Oh Deborah! I missed your last vid because here in northern Ohio we flooded so bad. So much destruction....we didn't get rain, we got dumped on. Clean up and repair and black mold. I am just gonna watch this and feel better.
Really appreciate this video. I know this faux brick is time intensive, so worth the labor. It looks high end and professional. Thank you and have a beautiful day.🍁🐓🌻🤗
Hi Deborah-I love how the wall turned out-a labor of love and patience and time definitely shows!!Its perfect and looks so real and I absolutely love it
Good morning! It was definitively labor of love, but I enjoyed the creative aspect and watching it develop, so it was fun for me. 😁 If I had not made the grout mistakes, it really wouldn't have been that bad at all. 😉 Have an amazing weekend! 🤗🧡🍂🍁 Xoxoxo
Deborah, I cannot believe how realistic your beautiful wall looks! Thank you so much for making this video and for sharing your first hand knowledge with us. The results are amazing!⚘
Go for it! It is super easy and a lot of fun. It does take a little extra time, but anything worth doing usually does. Have a wonderful week! Xoxoxo, Deborah
Good morning! It did take a long time, but now that I learned a few lessons, I know I could do it in just a few days including drying time. I priced thin brick and it was SO expensive. I'm so glad you liked how it turned out! 😬 Have a wonderful day! Xoxoxo
Wow! Your wall looks amazing. The “Queen” of painting has produced yet another masterpiece! I have watched your videos for a long time, and there’s nothing you can’t repurpose with some paint. The more colors the more layers the better!! Thanks for sharing your technique. Hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you so much, Karen! There are so many amazing things we can do with paint and a few other products. I'm so glad you enjoyed this project. I love how the brick looks in the kitchen. Have an amazing week! Xoxoxo
What a great tutorial for those wanting to use faux brick and achieve a real look. Your method and delivery is fantastic and very clear to understand. You have the patience of Jobe my friend and it shows! Gorgeous work! I am wanting to hear any updates on the Walmart chairs you ordered. I've eyed those chairs for a few years now and wondering how you like them. Hope to catch up with you soon again. Excellent video!
Hi Mary! Thank you! I am glad it came across that way so people could replicate the process if they liked the look. Oh! The chairs went right back to WalMart. They were okay for the price, but they weren't as comfortable as we were hoping. My husband didn't like the way it pushed his shoulders forward. They definitely needed a lumbar pillow as well, but even then we just decided to send them back. The quality matched the low price, in my humble opinion. I think for rare use and more petite individuals, they might work. I'd rather keep looking and pay more money for a better product. Hope that helps! Hope to see you soon! Xoxoxo
Your wall is lovely! You are so very talented. BTW, you hair is looking really shiny and healthy. If I remember correctly, when you first moved in, you thought the well water was damaging your hair. Looks great now!
Thank you! I haven't been highlighting it, so I think the dark might just look healthier. The old highlights are all the way at the ends now. I just have to battle the gray roots. 😂 Xoxoxo
I have a cinder block wall in my bedroom which has been painted white for 50 years. Yes , I have been in my house 50 years!!!!! Do you think a paint process could make it look like a brick wall? I just love that look and think it would add such character. Although I am not as brave or as young as you.... haha
Oh, absolutely!!!! You could skip the panels altogether and just tape off the brick size you want. They have thin tape. My friend, Lisa, made a video a while back. I'll find it and attach the link! Just use the mixture I used if you prefer. ua-cam.com/video/zUHuPSoDKAY/v-deo.html Good luck! Go for it! Xoxoxo
Great tutorial Deborah. You always take the time to carefully explain the details of your projects. Thank you so much for sharing. Your home is coming along so nicely I can't wait for your next video. Blessings XO
Wow. Such a transformation and such wonderful instructions. You have a great talent for painting, color choices, textures and techniques. I really love watching you paint. Thank you so much for doing this sample board for us. You ROCK.
Thank you, thank you! So very interesting and hope I can use it on a wall! Love to watch you’re tutorials so much! I always learn something! I have been doing this type of thing for yrs but you can not stop learning new things and it’s always a big learning curve to watch you!
Thank you! I'd love to see your projects, too. I have learned by trial and error. I'm just sharing what little I know! Lol. I really love painting. It's relaxing and results in immediate gratification, as I'm sure you know. 😉 I'm working on new projects today. Have a wonderful weekend! Xoxoxo
This is a great tutorial!! We have used these panels and love them. If someone just wants painted brick they can follow all your great steps to get the texture and feel of real brick with the joint compound and stucco patch in white. Add some grout to the lines and Then paint over it the color they want. Your color layering of color is really outstanding 🤩 I love your honesty about the learning curve. Also the encouraging but don’t give up if it’s not perfect at first. Keep trying and reevaluate why it’s not working.
You are back! What a treat for us. What an amazing DIY video you have made. Thank you so much, it is so clear that I actually feel I could do this, and how beautiful it turned out! 😘❤️😘🤗🤗
Hi Julie! You can DEFINITELY do this. It is easy and the cost is so much less than thin brick. Plus, you can control the color and adjust it as you like. I hope you give it a try! Have a great week! Xoxoxo
Deborah, what an awesome video! You are a great teacher - thorough and easy to understand. Sure could’ve used this information when I tackled my faux fireplace but maybe I’ll try something new. Obviously a labor of love but sooo worth the effort. Your brick wall makes such a statement and changes the complexion of your whole kitchen immensely. Bravo!! Thank you for sharing this very useful tutorial.
Hi Carolyn! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I wanted a brick wall forever and finally just went for it. It was fun and easy, but time consuming. But really. The grout mistakes were what made it take so long. And I should have used a grout bag! Lol. I hope your weekend is awesome. Fall will be here soon! Xoxoxo
Your tutorial on the faux brick was so inspiring and informative. I absolutely love how your wall came out. I was going to do this in my mother's kitchen but backed out because I wasn't quite sure about some of the process. If only I had this video a few years ago. I love your layering process it makes the brick look so real. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend 🤗💓💕💞
Hi Laura! It really is easy. Just takes a little extra time, but you don't have to add as much as I did and it would still look realistic. A lot of real brick isn't super rough looking. Go for it! It's a lot of fun. Xoxoxo
Thank you, Beverly! This was my first attempt so I am excited to try in another area and use different colors. I'm loving the neutrals in that one photo I shared. You would make a masterpiece, for sure! Have an amazing weekend. I'm loving all your Fall 🧡🍁🍂 decorating videos! Xoxoxo
Very informative. What a pretty change for the space. Lol, you lose me after 4 colors. I start counting, then you came to the glaze, I thought ok now the last layer. But no….😊 You have a eye and so much patience for these projects. Do you have a artistic background or just years of trial and error. I think my problem is I want the results first time, no patience as you have. At any rate another spectacular outcome by you. Have a good weekend.
Good morning, Terry! I always layer paint until I get to an acceptable level... 😂 It makes all the difference! I have learned from trial and error. I would actually love to take a few classes to learn techniques and all the products that are available to achieve old world finishes. This project is actually easy and fun. Thin brick was going to cost almost $1400 for the brick alone! Nah. I'll paint it. Lol. Have a fantastic weekend! Xoxoxo
Your video is titled accurately - it IS the best tutorial (that I’ve watched, and I’ve watched a lot😁) on this topic! Question: I’m curious why you decided to combine the stucco patch with the joint compound. Is the stucco patch too chunky/sandy?
I think I figured out the reason for combining the joint compound with the stucco patch (though it might not be the same reason you had)! The stucco patch takes several hours to cure/dry, but the joint compound has a much shorter dry time (especially if you use the 20 minute silver set like I did 😁). I forgot to add JC to one batch of texture and noticed that, unlike the previous ones, it was still mushy when I went to add the next layer. Initially I was concerned that my 20-minute joint compound would result in the product setting up too quickly, but combined with the stucco patch + paint, it wasn’t an issue at all.
Yay! Thank you so much! I'm so glad it turned out for you. I might be doing another area in the house this spring. Where did you add the brick in your home?
It looks really fake to me with the grout being so thick and not set back a bit like it normally would be on a real brick wall. You probably should have stopped adding more layers and just painted the grout the colour you wanted to give a more realistic end result.
Good morning! I can understand your point of view. This method is very versatile and can be adjusted to whatever look you desire. It definitely looks really in person. We've had visitors who commented on it thinking it was real brick. Messy mortar is thick and often covers even more of the brick and will extend even past the brick, which I may add more grout in the future. So many options to consider with different brick looks! Hope you have a great weekend. 👍🏻 Xoxoxo
So funny, this morning I’m tackling a large area of this fake brick from Home Depot in my she shed. I’m just using joint compound and chalk paint. I would only use chalk paint except we did the method where you cut out every other brick to hide the seams. That leaves lines that need the joint compound. But I’m just using the color of the bricks that came with the Home Depot version which has a variety of colors anyway. I just want to “age” it.
The texture you added really takes these relatively flat, boring wall boards into a whole new dimension ... literally! LOL! Love how they turned out, Deborah.
you really have the touch; and a lot of patience!!
Thank-you Deborah for showing us a new way to accent a wall. Using joint compound really makes the faux brick panel look like a brick wall. Now I know how to make my kitchen look beautiful in my small home!!!
Love the music, not loud and mind blowing!
If anyone can make a brick wall look beautiful, it’s you! I love it, looks awesome.
Deborah….you have the patience of a saint! You explained how to do this very well. I can imagine that all the layers took a lot of time to achieve. Your painting techniques never fail to impress! The brick wall is fantastic. So realistic!
Thank you, Deborah! 🤗😬 Xoxoxo
WOW! You have a lot of patience. It really looks like real brick. Well done!!

I would actually love to take a few classes to learn techniques and all the products that are available to achieve old world finishes. This project is actually easy and fun. Thin brick was going to cost almost $1400 for the brick alone! Nah. I'll paint it. Lol. Have a fantastic weekend! Xoxoxo
My goodness, that's a lot of work on top of a tall ladder. But, YOU GO GIRL!!
What a fantastic tutorial!!
Could you try a faux stone?
😊
😻👍👏
What do you use to seal projects made with joint compound since it’s so porous? Any tips would be great!

I copied this and it came out looking like real brick.Yours was the best tutorial to date!! Than you. Loved doing it, and my o my it looks real!
Yay! Thank you so much! I'm so glad it turned out for you. I might be doing another area in the house this spring. Where did you add the brick in your home?
Faux is your middle name.
