You forgot to mention Euron's Valyrian steel armour, which is probably the one item out of all the others that makes his tale of travelling to Valyria more credible as we've never seen nor heard of such before. Although he could always have got it from somewhere else in the far east.

So, if it takes a year to sail from the step stones to the Jade sea, it would essentially take 6 months from Mureen in Slaver's Bay to King's Landing since it's roughly half way. It's just odd how much leeway the show gives to travelling times of the characters. We're basically just made to accept it and move on, and not dwell on the fact that they could never make it as quickly as it appears.

I know this is 2 years later but imma say my piece here, WARNING I am by no means a sailor so I could be wrong, but in these days with travel the difference in speed between travelling open seas and travelling along coasts for long distance journeys changes dramatically, and also with wind speeds a journey that could take 6 months one trop might take 4 months another time and 8 months another, so it's not like planes where it always takes that long, variables in sea travel when you rely on sails are, I imagine, immense. So clarifying how long every journey took and why would either be ridiculously boring and unrealistically repetitive or just like, consume the things happening when they get there in always explaining a unique reason and windspeed etc

For those who don’t know, what’s west of Westeros is Ulthos, Far Eastern Esos, and the gulf of the winged. The lands of always winter is a massive northern continent that joins up Esos and Westeros. In northern Esos there are three forts/cities and a mountain range bordering Esos’ land of always winter, protected by three cities connected by the mountains.

Another great video. I wonder if maybe the reason people like Elissa never return is because of how much more interesting or better everything is over there or perhaps their desire to just explore more, if that ship in Asshai is Elissa's then we know that it is possible to explore west and that there was enough islands with life along the way to support travellers. Now we just need some to loop north and south.

So I figured why wouldn't they be able to use it to map the world or at least as much of the world as the candles allowed them to see. And the 40 ruling families in Valyria was constantly in political squabbles against each other in order to game more power and that. So who is to say one or more of the ruling families or one of the other organizations in the Valyrian Freehold didn't decide to use the glass candles to map the world but kept that knowledge to themselves because they wanted to use it benefit themselves. The Dragonlord in question that tried to map Sothoryos on her own by flying her dragon to the end of it and she did so for a couple of years before returning home. And honestly we have no idea if that's truly what she said since GRRM love the whole unreliable narrator thing not to mention the information about this dragonlord that tried to map Sothoryos came from The Citadel in the first place and quite frankly that alone should make you question that information the same way they claim that there are no children in Asshai when none of them knows that for sure.

Ive seen several comments for some reason on euron's mute crew still being able to communicate. And idk why Im explaining this but: Euron doesnt just break people's body, he breaks people's spirits too. Euron actively tortures, abuses, drugs, (and whatever other horrible things he thinks of at the time) people in order to get them to do what he wants. He sexually abused his brother who now sees him as an evil god because in their words "whenever euron was there, he prayed"
Euron wanted a crew that he knew for certain wouldnt betray him despite everything else he does, so he tortured them until they groveled at his feet.
Like, how else do you think he's still alive after being alone with a hundred people who im sure would all love him to be dead. His crew fears him too much. Their tongue being cut out was a part of the process of euron beating secrecy into them.

11:51 NOW I get it- G.R.R. Martin's story line is a fictionalization of The Enlightenment, The Reformation and the discovery of The New World. By the way, and please forgive my idiocy, but what does AC stand for in the dates? Never mention it in the show.

Sailing from Westeros to the Jade Sea taking around a year makes me quite curious whether this is because of the winds or simply because of the scale of the world, considering it used to take traditional sailing vessels 6 to 15 weeks to sail the real-life Atlantic

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 6 років тому

It is the winds, ships that do not have banks of oars need to dock in places like Volantis to wait for the right winds. Victarion's Iron Fleet, which has thralls manning the oars and powerful designs made it to Meereen from the Iron Islands in less than a book.

I would have thought the sunset sea border with the summer sea would be even with the West coast of westeros. Every thing South of dorne would be the summer sea I thought.

You could be right, this is his interpretation of what we're given, especially since seas never have borders marked out.
The point where one sea becomes the other Is undefined as there are no natural features that mark a border.

Hey man, I dont have the patience to deal with 99% of youtube channels and videos. I hate that people try to be funny and try to be personalities but it all just ends up sucking and falling flat and/or being abrasive.
Not many people cut thru the bullshit intro that takes 2 and a half minutes to start, you dont have an annoying intro sequence thats trying to be its own tv show, you dont start vids by telling people to like and subscribe and leave a comment blah blah fuckgin blah. you dont rape the camera with your face, shit is constantly happening on screen that is relevant to your video, and you cover topics that are obscure but thoroughly researched.
You are doing this shit right dude. I would put you up there with Alt Shift X and Emergency awesome, the former of which is my absolute go to youtube channel regarding ASOIAF/game of thrones. you are now putting his default status in jeopardy.
You have a great channel, it is perfect for book readers and non book readers alike.
I just wanted to tell you how much i appreciate the work you do, and that youre doing it right. no ego, no buillshit, just cold, hard, merciless facts. youre probably one of my favorites dude, and i just discovered you like 5 or 6 days ago.
    Cheers

I always had a problem with Juron's crew having their tongues cut off explained by him not wanting to tell others stuff. Even if they were all illiterate and mute, you can still ask someone a question and they can nod, it's ludacrous. He says ''I needed silence'' so to me, it always seemed way more plausible that he did some tasks that reuired absolute sneak and silence, but he couldn't trust his crew mates to not make noise so he cut off their tongues, and since he's most defs a psychopath that plays along it.
But then again I read total of 0 pages of this book, my persepective might be flawed with only show and videos like these. Still, maybe some of his artefacts require voice commands or shit like that so he cut off their tongues so he can only use it, w/e it be, my point is, people can still communicate without tongues and letters.

Essos is west of westeros because it nearly wraps around the planetos. Also Sothoryos most likely goes over the southern pole and upwards into the opposite end of the world and the lands of ever winter do the same going over the northern pole and then going down on the opposite site of the world.

    • @LetsTalkOnePiece

@@Ignisan_66 I can't resist the urge to feed you Mr. troll. They do wrap around the planet but not fully there is still a lot of ocean between the west of westeros and the eastern most part of Essos, the same goes for Ever Winter and Sothoryos.

I would take a guess...that west of westeros is most likely the most westerly point of essos or ulthos...like asia is west of united states....well if u r in the west coast region anyway...and east coast of united states goes to europe and africa...which east from those continents they connect w/ asia...so my theory has always been the only thing west of westeros is the other side of essos or ulthos....sothoryos appears to point southward entirely to me....may be wrong...may sail into the western most point of sothoryos...basically i believe it will be the western nost region of 1 or more of the other 3 new continents....possibly a new smaller continent around westeros size....
