21:24 House Qoherys is made in mockery to the one of House Hoare, because it depicts the four skulls of the Last Hoare's four sons, amidst flames, in honor to Aegon ending the Hoare line as he told to the last Hoare : ''Before the sun sets, you line shall end''.
The Crown on the Dustin heraldry is not just a reference to their past as the barrow kings, but also a reference to their supposed descent of the first king.
I've always counted sigils as part of the most interesting elements of the Ice & Fire stories. I'm glad the new show HotD is paying more attention to the sigils. Thanks for the video brother, really enjoyed it 👏👏
Sigils have always been interesting to me along with flags and emblems. I think it's funny how most old medieval European sigils were pretty boring in design when compared to George's ideas
@@nicklpantis well it’s Scottish (clan Bell) but it’s two symbols. One hand holding a dagger with a belt around it saying we beir the Bell. The coats of arms is a blue field with a stripe of a fur pattern in the middle with three bells around it
My ancestor is Gustav Vasa a really famous Swedish king. The Vasa coat of arms is kinda basic i dont really know What it is But it looks like either two harps or a vase
I love the longer videos so much, keep it up! What an interesting episode! I'll be rewatching this a lot to pick up on parts I may have missed. FANOMINAL!!
karstarks having a sun as a sigil is not random, karhold is located on the very east of the north so they see the sun rising before the others houses. same thing can be seen in the martell sigil and the tarth sigil, both are also located on the east. edit: and japan too!
When I was designing sigils and flags for my own sci-fi book series The Godsend Epic, I looked into every sigil in A Song of Ice and Fire to make sure I didn't unintentionally take any from George R.R. Martin. Some have subtle nods to the Westerosi sigils like House Kame having a blue eagle on a black field surrounded by the phases of the moon, which is reminiscent of House Arryn, while others were inspired by history and mythology like House Featherscales' sigil being a heart weighed against a feather on a golden scale on a green field, which is straight out of Egyptian mythology. It was a lot of fun coming up with them, although I only have less than 20 sigils, flags, and emblems in the first two books, Angel Odyssey and Angel Overload.
House toland sigil is actually a dragon biting itself because the once pranked the Targaryens by making them 1v1 a chester whilst fleeing in the invasion of dorne
7:57 House Falwell had some nice history. Apprently, there was a knight, Rupert Falwell ''The Fighting Fool'', who sided with the Faith Militant and killed many Kingsguard members before falling in battle himself.
The 1st man houses always get a lot of shit for their names and things being so simple but people failed to realize that when those houses started, it was more or less the bronze age in the world of ice and fire so they were simpler and less flashy
From what I remember, Riverrun is on th3 confluence of the Red AND Blue Fork, hence the colors. Missee opportunity to have the Frey's sigil background color to be green, to depict the Green Fork the Twins go across.
Love ur content dude great work! Especially these ASOIAF videos . They’ve honestly been helping me be more immersed in my CK3 role play in the Game of Thrones mod. Understanding the lore, the geography, the culture thru your videos has been awesome.
I'm a big fan of Sisterman lore, or any Lovecraftian references in the world. The sistermen bear "the mark" or the webbing and its a sign of their God's blessing. They could have other marks as well, like the bulging eyes or drawn thin lips. Maybe they decend from the Deep Ones. Or took the lands from Deep Ones, maybe interbred. They worship the sea and air gods and see storms as their Gods' sacred children.
In the stormlands you said only dondarrion has a backstory for the sigil but house seaworth is right there and it's lord is a POV character who repeatedly talks about the backstory of his sigil
Something you said about the Targaryen sigil reminded me of the saying "the dragon must have three heads". That says nothing about the dragons having riders. What if it means Dany's dragons must work as one to defeat The Others? What if they only need one rider for all three? That's probably stupid, now that I've said it out loud. But I just wanted to ponder 😅
The sigils of the smaller houses are more interesting tbh can you dedicate a video to the small houses? I mean Whitehill for example are banner on from house Bolton they also follow the 7 not the old gods these are interesting facts not everyone knows
Fam....How did you put Selmy as a Principal banner men over Connington and Grandison when they're Lord's and Selmy are landed Knights? You did the same thing with the Wester lands you put Clegane higher than House Farman....Dosnt make any sence to me
Noone cares about androw farman, whereas the cleganes are very prominent in the story as well as having a cool reasoning for their sigil other than just “we got boats cos we got a island”
Best explain ever . I think I have the explanation for why aegon Targaryen the conqueror choose fire and blood for the motto of house Targaryen I think because of his dream that Daenerys need fire and blood to bring dragons back to the world the true power of old Valyria
As a lover of sigils, this video is a definite win
Same. Love ASOIAF heraldry
As a lover of Jackochoko, this comment is a definite win
Same
Except one.
I see the Targaryens have a sigil of King Ghidorah; the King of Terror, the Golden Demise, and the Planet Eater.
Same as well

Makes sense. Valyrians didn't have any sigils so, they made a new one in Westeros like the rest of them.
That, and this is an interesting backstory.
Brutal
The Crown on the Dustin heraldry is not just a reference to their past as the barrow kings, but also a reference to their supposed descent of the first king.
We actually know how the cadet branch of House Fossoway was born and why their sigil is a green apple, since it is shown in the Dunk & Egg novels.
I love alot of the sigils. The books describe so many. Alot of the minor houses have some badass ones.
Facts, I especially love the double entendre in the Karstark sigil and house words. "The sons of winter" with the white sun is so well thought out.
I've always counted sigils as part of the most interesting elements of the Ice & Fire stories. I'm glad the new show HotD is paying more attention to the sigils. Thanks for the video brother, really enjoyed it 👏👏
Those Riverlands and Reach minor house sigils look MIGHTY similar.
Yh, I noticed it too, probably a mistake while editing.

I don’t know I think my family coat of arms is pretty cool but I’m bias.

sigils do so much to cement the history and legacy of ones house/family. This video was much needed friend !
Point of correction at 13:03, you switched the sigils for Houses Caswell & Ashford. House Caswell is the one with a yellow centaur with a bow & arrow.
karstarks having a sun as a sigil is not random, karhold is located on the very east of the north so they see the sun rising before the others houses. same thing can be seen in the martell sigil and the tarth sigil, both are also located on the east.

very true it is the rising winter sun, bleak and white rather than hot red like it would be in Dorne.
@@aljosapetkovic69 yep and for tarth it's the sun of sunrise and sunset
For the Riverlands, it seems you have used the sigils from the Reach.
Always loved the sygils, such an iconic part of this series
Dayne is the best one. It just screams "we have the best sword"
It also seemed to be the only one that was bright purple, which feels kind of special.
15:05 Daynes are the Gigachads of Westeros.. They need more attention..
I love these kind of videos. Sigils are so fun combined with history.

Love these long form videos keep them coming please! 😁
I always thought House Dustin's axes were bronze, not rusted.
The 1st man houses always get a lot of shit for their names and things being so simple but people failed to realize that when those houses started, it was more or less the bronze age in the world of ice and fire so they were simpler and less flashy
Great video, I know that was a lot of work putting all of that together!
Great video ive been following your channel for a long time
Killing it with the vids lad
Bear island actually looks like a walking polar bear too
Unwins ghost is gonna come and strangle you tonight. Imagine calling house Peake a lesser house. He is gonna make you regret that
Love these type vids keep it up mate

I believe they are at the junction of the red fork and the tumblestone rivers. The blue fork is northeast of riverrun
Ur vids are a must view for folks trying to get into ASOIAF. Great shit, man!
Un grande lavoro, complimenti ❤️
You switched the sigil of House Caswell and House Ashford
Edit: And you showed the Reach sigil instead of the riverlands
Otherwise great video
Ah a fellow connaisseur. Was just about to write these exact things. I tip my hat to thee, good sir. And to whycreate, love his work.
Only WC explains every sigil in the novels but absolutely refuses to give us a Frey family tree video 😂💕
Love these type of videos ❤
This dudes voice is super relaxing, this could be an Asmr channel
Malcador the Sigillite would have loved this video.
RIP to a real one.
Great video although I wish you'd mentioned the House words more often, they're as interesting as the images.
I believe house Tallheart had a lot of lore and was renown for making excellent weapons.
Arya definitely knew how To Kill a Mockingbird :)
Thank you. This is one of the best ASOIAF channels
My favorite Houses are Arryn, Martell, Targaryen, Manderly, Hightower, Dayne and Corbray

Wow, that was just excellent. Thanks so much
Cool topic and all of them included.Bravo
Hey man!! Great video!! you just mixed up the sigils of houses Ashford and Caswell in the Reach
House Tarbeck actually is kind of an interesting sigil, because it's modeled after the Dallas Cowboys logo, an NFL team GRRM hates lol
21:35 it looks like you showed the sigils of the Reach again, instead of the ones for the Riverlands
Blackwoods may be an original OC don't steal, but their sigil goes hard

There are like 7
@@MotherCelevrus there are dozens

As a heraldry nerd, I enjoy that martin acknowledges it, but I am saddened by the diregard for the rule of tincture
House Blackwood sigil is my personal favorite, what House Blackwood was never exiled from the north and ruled the North instead of the Starks? 🤔
What
What about House Forrester, Longwater, Blackberry, Goldwyne,?
Something you said about the Targaryen sigil reminded me of the saying "the dragon must have three heads". That says nothing about the dragons having riders. What if it means Dany's dragons must work as one to defeat The Others? What if they only need one rider for all three?

23:39 - 23:53 I see a Targaryen sigil of King Ghidorah, the King of Terror and Planet Eater.
Been seeing loads of new sigils since playing crusader kings 3 GoT mod
He forgot my boys blackfishes personal sigil.😢
The sigil of house Targaryen is definitely my favorite
Awesome, thank you
Great video you definitely put in the work on this one.
House Dayne of Starfall is located on the mouth of the Torrentine river.
Good video though.
simply a good video!
You got the sigils for Caswell and Ashford switched
was it just me who wanted him to talk ab house reyne and their history with the lannistors
Can you please do video about all the valyrian swords.
Why would littlefinger choose a mockingbrid as a symbol?
Where did all this info come from? Wow.
i thought the crown on the baratheon sigil was added after robert was crowned king?
No it was there before iirc, cause they just nicked the sigil and words of house durrandon, the house of the storm kings

I'll be sure to watch this video just a bit busy atm
sigils of ashford and caswell are switched :D
I think you forgot house Forrester in the North
This is the stuff!
You missed the kingslanding
Jaime, Jon, and Daenerys are the three heads of the dragon. I hope.
Very good vídeo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How did all of these Sigels come out of one man's brain??
you forgot black fish
The lesser house sigils that you show for the Rvierlands are a repeat from the Reach, so they're all wrong and got left out unfortunately.
You forgot House Forrester of Ironrath. "Iron from Ice".
foot of the four belfries too!

The best sigil is House Clegane. Dogs are the best
Bravo

The Vrywels have the coolest sigil ngl
Man, I'm sorry but I just cannot listen to that voice which is sad because I was very interested in the stories behind the sigils.
