      I'd guess it's about %10,000 stronger than the gelatin ("animal") glue used on composite bows in previous centuries, so you'll be fine :)

    • @hfrendal5374

      Exactly. He can stuff his "simple bow" when he needs all that to make it. I dont think he know much about bows since he never said what draw strength it has, everyone can put a string in a bent stick and call it a bow and launch something from it. Piece of pvc pipe will do the trick and no tools needed, THAT is a simple bow.

    • @phuntwv
      @phuntwv 5 років тому +24

      @@hfrendal5374 Just because he made use of "all that to make it" for the video doesn't mean $30,000 worth of equipment is needed. Anyone mechanically inclined could do the same with normal household hand tools like a hacksaw and file.

    • @hfrendal5374
      @hfrendal5374 5 років тому +17

      @@phuntwv Anyone with the right pvc pipe can make a better bow in 30 min. I am an archer and I can tell you that the bow he ended up with is a terrible bow. To use time, energy and money on creating that crap makes no sense.

    • @phuntwv
      @phuntwv 5 років тому +12

      @@hfrendal5374 A lot of people waste time, energy, and money on hobbies and activities that baffles others. It baffles the ol lady that I spent time, energy and thousands of $ hunting and fishing. Even with all the factory made bows out there, there are just as many opinions on which are best. The best thing about this bow is that if we don't like it for any reason, we don't have to waste our time, energy and money making it. Or we can make any number of modifications. If get bored making bird and bat houses, I might build one of these. I got my first Fred Bear recurve in 1968 and have owned many more since then, mostly for hunting and target shooting. But none of that changes the point of my original comment that, regardless of design, lots of expensive tools are not needed.

  • @matthiasliszt8490
    @matthiasliszt8490 5 років тому +15

    Actually , usually bows are smaller and lighter at the ends. I think that makes them shoot faster. Pyramid bows take that to the extreme. Also there is nothing wrong with a bending instead of a stiff handle. A bending handle makes the bow smaller. When I ever will try your design I'll make at least those changes. I am sure it will be a wood fiberglass composite as I still think your extension are too thick and heavy.

    • @jez0608
      @jez0608 5 років тому +2

      That's what I was thinking. Adding so much weight at the very end of the limb certainly limits this bow's launch speed.

    • @MichaelEdelman1954
      @MichaelEdelman1954 5 років тому +2

      Matthias Liszt True, this is an amazingly slow bow. You can do better with a green branch and a drawknife.

  • @TheTurinturumbar
    @TheTurinturumbar 5 років тому +3

    Should've made the bow center shot since the static handle, the siyahs could have been made thinner and angled forward so you get a recurve. Other than that, pretty nice. The bowstring is a bit on the weak side it seems, especially if you shorten the bow for added draw weight

      Chris Sproles it was probably a little more than that but the arrow point made the difference in penetration.
      It would penetrate a bullet proof vest but the impact and the damage to a body would not be as good as you think.
      When “settlers” exchanged shots with Indians it wasn’t that uncommon to slap an arrow away with your rifle barrel.
      There was a reason that the native population would sell women for a rifle or trap all year for a rifle..

      Nearly all the ones you find (at least for cheap) for sale on the internet are made this exact way, but the riser is wood with the limbs attached separately. All he would need to do is cut the fiberglass in half, attach the limbs the same way he did the siyahs, and bam, same as a cheap chinese version of a horse bow, and only slightly less reliable.

    Cool build! Next time I would taper the ends of the bow to help with limb speed, and instead of the massive wood siyahs just add a simple small wood, bone, or horn nock. The bow itself looks extremely unpleasant to actually use due to what I imagine is tremendous hand shock, but I'm not sure how to fix that (I've only ever built wooden bows).

    • @AdlerMow
      @AdlerMow 5 років тому +2

      Your suggestions will likely fix most of the problems, including hand shook (that is not a big deal in such week bow, although it will affect accuracy). I was going to suggest exactly everything that you suggested, so thumbs up to you! I think if he apply it all, the bow will improve tremendously. He can also add a nock and make the field point slightly bigger than the shaft, so it will pierce a bigger hole and the rest of the arrow will past through without friction, as it doesn't touch the hole.
