love the arrow heads, well done , just a tip soaking vinegar can be bad for harden steel, can cause an issue call hydrogen embitterment, so bake them after etching, 4 hours
Maybe cut the tips off and drill 2 small fine holes into the tips and main arrow head then put small machine screw and nut to connect the tips on Both side of the main arrowhead and now it’s triple pointed with carbide tips on the sides lol
If you intend to do this repeatedly, instead of a one off project.:You could make one mild steel template,in place of multiple paper templates. A piece of masonite or plywood, also works well for templates. Also plastic, like that which you find in the kiddie seat, in shopping carts.
Thanks a lot for watching and for your recommendation! I have since revisited the project and used a stencil to make around thirty arrowheads from an old two man saw. If I ever had to do it again I would most likely go down the template route for accuracy and speed.
I was going to ask someone where to get these arrowheads. I knew there was somebody who could probably make them as well. Thanks for the info. And thanks for sharing.
I liked your sharpening technique and the chisel grind cuts very well on large game. I assume you're thinking of hunting if you're taking the time to grind an edge. I don't know where you live but in the States those broad heads are illegal in most if not all states because they are barbed. If the bottom edge was 100 degrees off the tang you'd be legal. Also it would be easier to make without the acute angle.
Thanks a lot! I'm not based in the US but thanks for the info as I didn't knew that barbed heads are illegal. You are right they are a pain to manufacture which is why I changed the design on my second batch. Cheers
those are really sharp! (pun intended) Im guessing that you heated and quenched the heads because the saw blade hardness was ruined by cutting the arrow heads out with the cutting wheel. I wouldn't have bothered with the quench and temper because Im not sure the temper was ruined in the beginning
@@LetsPrepTogether right. But its still a large leap up from archaic, glass-like obsidian that most likely had to be replaced all the time. I KNOW those things will function as arrow heads! Especially if you shoot them from a powerful bow

@@animusauthor if you hit it in the leg and it runs off and you didn't get a kill shot, it then has that stuck in its leg until it gets infected and dies. Or if someone else finds the wounded animal and has to remove it, that style head will cause a lot of damage coming out. Thats why they have a minimal draw weight you can use for hunting as well, bad shots not deep enough to kill it just really hurt it.
@@JeepTrailsandBarbells I get what you're saying, but I must point out that such things happen with the current stanadards and legal arrows. People try to push the limits of a bow's range, well past where they can be precise, where the bow can be accurate and where the arrow still has the energy to penetrate.
Great video and creation!I wonder though,do you think that the point is strong enough for hunting,or similar purposes? And also how thick is the saw blade you are working with when you start? Thanks in advance!
so sharp arrow heads are illegal in the netherlands? hmm that makes no sense whatsoever.. do they have knives in the netherlands or are those illegal as well?
1)If you're using them as props, save yourself the legal headaches then. Use 1/8 to 1/4 inch plastic sheet( like the kiddie seat liner, in shopping carts.). Prime and paint them, afterwards. You can get some realistic faux metal paint effects. Look on some modeling , or cosplay videos. If you think that your police will still still give grief, you can round the tips ever so slightly. No reason to use metal, if they are not intended as fully functional. Plastic is fine for a wall display, or prop .2) If you're not using these as props, but are prepping for when it drops in the pot: make and keep some separate heads. You can store for emergencies. If shit hits the fan, you can always mount them on the shafts later. Make the shafts without heads, or tipped with prop heads. Just mount them when actually needed. Mount them on your target arrows, if and when the need arises.
Hi Rusty, thanks for watching! At the time the idea was to make the arrowhead more versatile by having multiple methods for fastening. I think for a second iteration I would omit the holes and simplify the shape. Cheers Alex
Hey Alex, very nice job! I have a question; what did you apply after the vinegar? I rewind it a couple of times, but could figure it out... Thanks for sharing 🖒

Thanks! I used a particle board as a surface for most of the rough cuts.
I totally agree. I will definitely try that brilliant method.
what's the purpose of dipping in vinegar though ?
The hot vinegar creates a light acid etch effect and blackens the tips which makes the tips more rust resistant.

Be illegal to use in some states as the broadhead design would be considered a barbed head.. Short of a slight redesigning I think they'd work well
I really don't understand why that ever became a law. Best guess, it's another offshoot of "That looks scary! BAN IT!!"
