I like using Corona blade sharpeners as strikers they have a carbide edge that works really well also have a longer handle making it a little bit easier.
I think there are too many variables with the wetness, wind, and placement of the toilet paper. The first few have already dried out the wood surface and the wind blows inconsistently during each trial. Try this test again under more controlled conditions. Thank you for the effort.
Very true. I used the same striker for all of these. My favorite striker is actually the back of a Silky Saw. For some reason it throws the best sparks.
Hi, Mr. Campfire Kodiak. Great video! I don't recall you saying your name and that's why I said Mr. Campfire Kodiak. Please don't think I'm being disrespectful. Well, my name is Jose. I live in SoCal and I love bushcraft activities and the outdoors as well. I recently bought a bayite ferro rod and comparing it to other ferro rods I have, like a Gobspark and Nathan 4071 ferro rods, I find the bayite a little too hard. From your perspective, which one of the ferro rods you used in this video is the hardest and which one is the softest?
My EricX is hardest ferro rod. I'm not convinced that hardness is all that important. They might last a bit longer but it's the results that matter. The larger size of a ferro rod is more important than the quality in my opinion. 3/8" by 4 should be the minimum I recommend but 1/2" x 6 is best!

I will have to try that!
I like the Hornady hat! I have a different color one but same logo. Great video about the ferro rods!
My favorite hat too! I use a lot of their bullets for reloading.
I do not have a bayite but I do have the Uberleben and it is amazing ! As a matter of fact I was going to order a couple more of them .
I like that hat as well! And I love me some ferro rods. I just did a review on one I received this week myself.

Glad I watched this before I purchased the hex rod.
The best Ferro Rod is the one you have with you , the worst one is the one you don't
That is truly the best advice! With good tinder, preparation and technique any ferro rod will do.
The amount of sparks a ferro rod throws is dependent on the striker you use!

@@CampfireKodiak thank you very much for answering my question.
@@bushcraftalairelibre-joseg2573 You are welcome! And my name is Neil. Pleased to meet you Jose
Is that a coldsteel buschman bowie?
Yes! My favorite budget survival knife. I carved a Spruce hiking staff for it too so I can use it as a machete.
@@CampfireKodiak I love
Mine! Though I hate the sheath. Trying to figure out how to make a new one for it.
@@classicZEPP See my video on how I added a belt loop. Now I can sit down without discomfort and it does not affect the ability to draw quickly.
