Nice! I've had no complaints about my Bayite rod. Keep it on my belt for impromtu firecraft practice, wowing friends, and tamping my pipe. Definitely will have to pick up some of these and seal them up in some mylar to prevent oxidation for the comming colapse ; )
A good practical demonstration and I got the answer I was looking for ,plus you did not edit out your mistake which is very honest and I like that a lot .You got a new subscriber and I am getting new ferro rods .Thanks very much I appreciate your help .
Great video and information for everyone. I have found that the cost of a fero rod is not indicitive of the quality. Learning to use one is probably the most important, and your new Fero Fire will make it easier to get a fire going.
Remember a few years ago when you could bid for Chinese stuff? I got a ferro rod the same size as yours for $0.78 (with free shipping), I think it is the last one I'll ever need. It came without a lanyard hole, I drilled one at slow speed using my drill press, it was fun, like the 4th of July - sparks everywhere even at 640 rpm. The mark up American companies charge for Chinese products is obscene.
Great job, Dan. An informative review with great presentation. I watch quite a few reviewers here. Most that I continue to watch are pretty good, some are great. You’re in the second group, IMHO. Keep up the good work, it’s appreciated.
Nice test. Make yourself a favor, try a ceramic striker (Wazoo or Nexland for example, it is around 6$) and you will see both ferrorod perform wayyy better than with metal striker.
I still need to do a shelter video for that kit, but my schedule got a little messed up and needed to put some other things ahead of it to get back on track.
Looks like a better deal for sure. The King of fire IMO uses a Bayite keychain rod which I carry with my keys as always. Whos the King you may ask? David West on UA-cam.
Cheetos crushed, old potato chips, dryer lint sprayed with cheap ultra hold hair spray two coats with drying time between each, stuffing out of sanitary napkins, bandages... LOTTA stuff works😂 I have been known to shove a 1 quart sports drink bottle that's clean and dry full of good tinder and some fat wood splinters and screw the lid on. No water gets in and the bottle doesn't weigh much more than empty. Cut the bottle open, decide if you need the fat wood or not, POOF. That's enough hopefully to get it going plus a platform AND the plastic burns if you're really in a fix!😂
I cannot imagine how they drill those holes in deep rods. I tried it once and the drill bit instantly became a high speed striker, melted my drill bit and started a small fire in my shop. Just a guess but they either use a lot of oil or the hole is part of the press powder form.
@ochocobushcraft1742 nice!! I am from Joseph originally, but live outside of Grants Pass now. We elk hunt Sumpter so I get to drive through the Ochocos every so often!!
Hi I saw your video and decided to purchase on of these Ferrofire rods so I went to amazon and they only have a 4 inch ferrofire rod, could you put a link to this product in the description?
Unfortunately, they sold out of the 5 inch after I did the video, and still haven't restocked on Amazon. Try typing in the company name on Google. I had one person say he got some directly from them
@@ochocobushcraft1742Do you also carry them on your knife sheath? Does that mean you have several on you at anytime when you’re in the woods? Would be interesting to see what your normal EDC is like, and how it differs from what you carry to the woods. It would probably make for a cool video!👍🏻 Also, just became aware of your lifting channel and have been enjoying it!💪🏻 Thanks!
@@xderiwxbecause I have put a 90 degree spine on all my knives, I do have a ferro rod on the sheath. It's an emergency back up in case I lose my big one. Funny, I kinda forgot it's there, lol!lso, those ferro rods on the sheaths in a 30.30 case were made by my good friend Mark at Sagebrush Customs before he passed. I carry them specifically to honor his memory.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 a rolling stone gathers no moss. I assume you use the one you carry and the ones in your packs are all still black. Great plan actually. I noticed how shiny your well worn one is... That means you train with it a lot. They corrode bad with oxidation and moisture when exposed. You're the real deal. The condition of your gear proves it.
Glad you had success with this Ferro rod, I got some FERROFIRE Zippo size flints off Amazon and they were atrocities. Even in a New Zippo insert 4 out of the 100 ordered produced no spark. Tried the same 4 flints in ANOTHER new insert ...no spark. When it comes to ferrocerium, A sharp hard striker is a must. I use a square lathe mill bit blank epoxied into a hunk of wood . 4 edges M2 tool steel. Save my knife spines for emergency, OR use a Corona shears sharpener, carbide.
Well TBH I'm just letting others know that they're better off just buying ZIPPO brand flints in bulk if possible. The things are tiny, and I mean how many of the little buggers do they actually check when you think about it. 😂 Amazon refunded the whole order, so there's that. But its probably easier to QC a big old 1x6. Reason I mention it is that I use the little EXOTAC sparker that's about $30, takes ZIPPO flints, and the EXOTAC TitanLight alot more than a 1x6. That little sparker is worlds more durable than a dead Bic, and the TitanLight doesn't chug ZIPPO FLUID like a camel at a watering hole😂
Went to Ferrofire website and discovered this: "Free shipping within two business days as per arrangements for festivals and holidays from China government." Made in CHINA. No thank you. I'll gladly pay more in order to NOT put money into the war chest of a nation that is spending decades trying to destroy the US. Just my two cents. That said, excellent presentation and style... nice work. Will definitely watch more of your vids!
I find that terribly sad. Thanks for the info. I guess I'd rather get one from Europe though, than China. Thanks-- and again, nice work!@@ochocobushcraft1742
Ordered Ferrofire rods after watching vid. Spark longevity was obvious with Ferrofire rod. Will retire my well used Uberleben rod. GREAT VID.

Thanks Dan for the review. I've been using the 8 inches ferro rod by Uberlebin. I will check out the Ferrofire as it does seem to be a great deal.
I reached out to the company, if they reply, I'll suggest they add an 8 inch to there line up.
for a great striker, try the Corona AC 8300 Garden Tool Blade Sharpener. they're the best striker i have found.

Great video and channel! Any chance on maybe doing a product review of our Firestarters?

I think you will really like it!
So which one would you prefer unberleben or feerofire ( as per performance)
Definitely FERROFIRE. Performs as good as or slightly better at a much lower price. Unfortunately Amazon seems to run out from time to time.

How do you carry your ferro rods.
Do you do anything to keep them from corroding?
I carry one in my BDU pants pocket always, and one in every kit, pack, etc. Never had one corrode.
