In the beginning of this video, I replace the worn out keychain ferro rod with a new one... Bear this in mind as you watch... The scraper can not remove as much material off the round sides of the new rod as it was removing from the flat sides of the old rod. As the new rod wears it will shower many more sparks.
Great video bud! I had a question , would you say that bayite is a hard or soft ferro rod?
Dude you are so knowledgeable and kind, friendly , and humble , anyone that gets a chance to go out and enjoy nature or just daily life is blessed to have you around. Take care and best wishes , from Ontario Canada
The way you produced your underwear made me laugh out loud!!!😆👍
Feminists could burn their bra’s ............then ask for support !
I thought he was a magician.

Did he just......pull his underwear out? LOL Good one Mr. West. Love your vids!
LOL! TY!
Keep the knife still and pull the rod. You punch the leafs everytime you try to start the fire. Especially with a small rod. But when you pull the rod you are protecting the kindling from rain and wind.
LOL! It is not a big deal to bump the tinder bundle occasionally. Check out my ferro rod playlist or at least this video. ua-cam.com/video/USLPQwwPQa8/v-deo.html
Shave a small pile of the ferro rod into the leaves and then spark it up. It will have the same effect as a pile of magnesium shavings.
That'll work too.
You're smoking!!!! As usual. Thanks for the great videos
... and with a stroke of genius ( and his new ferro rod ) the Fire Guru transformed underwear into Hot Pants!
I've ferro rod ignited dollar bills before too... first your money then your clothes.
Thanks David. I am about to buy my first ferro rod and those bayite rods are a great deal, but I would like to be able to do a short, pushcut style strike near the tip of the rod for control. Are those bayite rods hard enough? I can’t make up my mind between hard or soft rods. Peace.
I have never used nor plan to use that striking method.
He whipped those undies off like Hansel!!
David well done , good luck with ur fire rolls thanks nice video n, learned lots from u .
HA! The underwear removal
My wife will probably not believe me when I tell her that I watched a video of a man burning his underwear today. Thank you for the great content.
That's the effect I was going for, too.
I got these a while back and they’re really great. I put one on a survival necklace using paracord and included a tops whistle and a keychain pill container with a few Black Beard fireplugs.
Good ideas.
Ive never tried to light dry leaves or pine needles. Cool
I see you sparked another great video., I brief-ly was surprised by the uses of your boxers. But seriously I always carry a Ferro rod with me, its attached to to my knife so whatever else happens I always have that as back up.
That's the most sure of the 3 fire starters that I carry for long term effectiveness.
Nice job David, :-)
Love your channel ive got the bug teaching my girls as much as they will stand it. Thanks brother!
Thanks Garland.
Is that the same type of rod that is in a radio with the copper windings around? Ferrite rod?
IDK.
Thank you David, just got my 3 units today and I feel a whole lot better about having them on my keychains with me all the time. !!
I know that feeling!
PS., i EVEN STOPPED IN A LITTLE PARK ON THE WAY HOME AND GOT SOME BIRCH BARK LIT. AND «««««I HAD A HARD TIME BELIEVING IT) BUT i DID GET SOME COTTON UNDERWEAR LIT, AT HOME THOUGH.!! ..BE WELL.
LOL!
Awesome!
bayite makes great fero rods and are usually the least expensive (on Ebay at least). A piece of advice for those buying one, always get them with pre-drilled holes for a lanyard. It makes them much easier to handle with a keyring in them. The 6" x 1/2" are only $10-$12 shipped and work as good as any other brand you can name. The striker is really the key for fero rods, IMO. Firesteel.com's Super Striker works great and is small enough to carry on a keychain. Thanks David - you are the go-to fire guy!
Just found this video and it's excellent - many thanks for really useful information here. Really well made thanks :)
I always get a wedgie when I pull my underwear like that. You are truly the master.
Can't go wrong with old hickory. I've been a butcher for 8 years and have used my grandpa's set that he used as a butcher for 30 plus years
I love mine!
I love that I found where you grabbed these rods but they don't ship to Canada and these ones are pennies compared to Amazon.ca prices...how would one acquire one or two of these? They want basically $60.00 for one that's 1/2-5inch and I can't justify paying that when you get 3 for less then $13.00 bucks...any suggestions?
No, Sorry.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Would you take a trade? Some of our Vancouver Island Douglas Fir Fatwood for one or two of the ones you get so cheap? Lol never know unless you ask right?
Do they spark if you did a slower push method? I am waiting for my bayite to get here and I’ve been looking for a video that shows a bayite rod being used in that method but I can’t find any videos on it.
No. You can slow scratch and build a pile of shavings.
Thanks for the suggestion. Saw your video the other day on just how to use Ferro Rods, and I went out and practiced with the one that came with my Marakniv. Your channel is very informative, and thank you for the knowledge you share.
Thanks GSS!
In bCk ground is that locusts in ur trees sounds like end of the summer in August
Good job nice video David west very cool thank u
that is 👍demonstration learned a lot
David i hope you had lots of babies and taught them ur skills!
Look great, tried to buy but won't ship to UK. Shame.
I liked Bear Gryles ferro rod a lot. It was the first one I ever owned.
Always seems people in those tv situation forget how flammable hair is, I've started a few with just a lock of hair......
Flash tinder only works with the best of bigger tinders.
Cool video, thank you!
Thank-you
Tell us more about how to find fatwood . Thanks
Search David West fatwood
I love my 6 inch Bayite ferro rod! These also look good. Keep up the good work!
They have the right combination of hardness and softness. Mine doesn't develop ridges like the hard ones do, but is still soft enough to allow for a lot of material to be scraped away.
U need some "Fatwood"....
Just ordered it today. Thx for the review
You will be pleased with them. They spark easily without leaving behind ridges... that get more ridged every time you use it.
Great info TX!
A bit of free advice...
Remove toothpick before filming🤧
You give up the panel nails in the end?
Yes... people can't relate to the idea. It's a shame. It makes Ferro Rodding much easier.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl I put one in my 1/2" one it does help I agree.
Why is it called fat wood ?
Don't know, please Google.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl I like what your showing your the first one to show as much as you do . Thanks.
