    Love the 1/2 fatty uberleben ! Great rod !

    the toothed notch is actually suppose to be used for scraping magnesium or possibly get wood scrapings. that's how überleben describes it. otherwise you will really waste the ferro rod

  • @geoffnepo
    @geoffnepo 4 роки тому

    The half moon end is for scrapping particles or fat wood and the burred side edges are for striking sparks

  • @snipereyes101
    @snipereyes101 4 роки тому +3

    FYI The tooth side is for making tinder not for scrapping you rod just thought you may want to know that. This is a very common mistake that people make.

    The teeth are for scraping tinder and the edge is for scraping the starter.

    Very nice rod and packaging. Nice to see a company go that extra mile. Definitely going to look them up. Thanks for sharing.

      absolutely! I agree, I like the attention to the little things. the details. Its what separates the 'pretty goods' from the 'greats' in my opinion!

    Looks like a great product. I've got Grandson's coming of age to use a product like these. Great reviews on them.

    hey brother, I think the teeth on the striker is meant to scrape wood and bark to turn it into Tinder.

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  7 років тому +1

      Really? I didn't think so, but I won't argue! haha I've seen many, and they're usually advertised as rod scrapers. Thanks for watching brother!

      I got a couple different rods and the striker is to strike the ferrocerium rod but the instructions said the teeth are to chew up Sticks to fluff up Tinder

      The instructions for the multi-tool on their web site, specifically say the teeth portion of the tool is for scraping wood/material for tinder. I've done it with mine, and it worked great.

    The serrated u shaped end is for creating tinder

    220 sandpaper makes a great way to remove the coating initially much cleaner faster.

    I've never heard of these guys before but I will check them out. They throw sparks like a champ 1/2" rods always seem to be better all around value in my opinion. They last longer and don't wear out as quick because they usually spark a flame on fewer strikes. Nice review!

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  7 років тому +1

      Thanks Chad! I'm sure they'd appreciate it. This is my first 1/2", and I love it! Much nicer to hold, and the strike as you said!

    I used to have one of the uberleben fire steels but the rod fell out of the handle only after a few uses, it was a great rod though.

    not being able to hold it but the knot in the shock cord appears to be able to take out the knot and then it would be long enough to strike a spark

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  7 років тому

      the shock cord is definitely long enough to adjust to a useable length! I just prefer to use my knife! Thanks for watching David!

    • @tuiflies5869
      @tuiflies5869 5 років тому

      @Bryon C just tie a simple overhand or stopper knot in each end of the shock cord after threading it through the lanyard holes instead of tying it in a loop.

    I've been looking at the 1/2 inch one myself. Im actually hoping to win one from my VR to spooks GAW. Another reason i like it better than the smaller ferro rods is that if you drop it some where its much easier to find.

    The first part that you tried using to scrape is for scrapping tinder off of wood, not for striking. ;D nice review though.

    Thanks for the review. So, are they that much better than a similar size rod from GearBest or eBay??? I can believe a rod from Firesteel.com is better but I am hesitant to spend more than I need to for something

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  7 років тому

      I understand what you're saying Mark. I haven't tried rods from the locations you mentioned, but I do know that this is a nice rod. I think much of the difference is the amount of sparks they throw, and more importantly the temperature. Differences in material composition between rods can change the temperature of the spark they throw. these are good rods for sure. but spending 10$ for a cheap one and 25$ for this one, hmm, that's a personal call eh?
