I enjoy the interactions between the channel and its subscribers with all of the information shared. I recently had a series of messages and a letter from David Draper who then went on to send 3 variations of the pulley drop down rig. On closer inspection these rigs were beautifully made and well considered. I have tried them out and made my own versions covering light, medium and heavy set-ups. Hi Clive, I’m glad you find them useful. I do try to explain why I have done things in a certain way so that you can adjust the rig for your own use. I will be doing a new series on rigs in the New Year from a different perspective. They may help also. 🎣👍🏻
Superb video Mark, really informative and delivered in a really accessible way. Love your attention to detail and the fact you welcome views from others. I use Oblivion for my hook snoods and think it is an excellent line and perhaps better value for money than Amnesia? Look forward to the next video, although I shall be watching this again several times!
Glad it was helpful! Some of the cost rises do seem inflated and a chance for some to add some extra profit. I have found that Gemini tackle varies wildly depending on where you source it and some lines also have a bigger variance in cost. More than ever it pays to shop around. I crammed a lot into this video and realise it won’t be for everyone.

Practice makes perfect. Focus and perfect your knots, attention to detail will pay back when on the beach using them. Better to get them right whilst comfortable at home and spend more time fishing on the beach. 🎣👍🏻

Only fish this rig at HW slack and the initial turn to EBB. Then swap to another type of baited rig. 1 hour maximum I would suggest.

Workshop videos will start once the clocks change and we go to winter time. I can then fire up the log burner and talk rubbish. 😉🎣

Just remember they do no suit all states of the tide and I would suggest a change to one of these at slack HW and the first hour of turn into the ebb. If you give one a go let us know how you get on, good or bad. 🎣👍🏻

I think they only fish well at certain stages of the tide and with a bad experience people move on to something else. Pulleys, up and overs and flappers/clip downs tend to be top choices for most applications.
I would think they would be a good rig for chesil. Since I got my boat I haven't done much shore fishing. Though I still enjoy watching shore videos.
Hi Mark! Great video with lots of info thanks. Love your workshop Jibber Jabber videos - I've quite often gone back and watched some of them a few times thinking "what was it that Mark did?" Useful info about the Buffer Beads and the Silicone tubing.
I think I OD'd on UA-cam last year - just not had the time for it this year, with 'stuff' going on, so way behind. Also cut my subscriptions back by over half, mainly folk who hadn't uploaded anything for 12 months or more.

Hi Dave, my life is busy and packed with all sorts atm. Currently studying Yacht Master theory with Powerboat Advanced at the end of the month. Norway in November and lots in between. Not enough hours in the day and work gets in the way. 😉
Looking forward to the change of season and some time in the workshop with the log burner going although I have considered a diesel heater.

Best use of the time when weathered out and it’s not possible to wet a line. I’ve got to sit down and start preparing my rigs for Norway.

@@seaangling hi mark I used size 1/0 and bluey it worked well with whiting’dabs‘pollock dog fish
Bluey can be a killer bait as it gives out so much oil and scent. I like to keep mine as frozen as possible to make bait preparation easier.
Well I tested the, and they work very well, even on full flood. Had 3 thornback and 2 doggys. On it, and on my usual pulley only had 2 rays. Definitely a winner 👍🎣
Happy days. What bait did you use for the thornbacks, around here mackerel & squid works well. Did you hook up on the bottom hook snood?
@@seaangling yep rays on the bottom, dogs on the top, switched baits on the top between blacks tipped with squid, and sandeel . Squid and bluey wrap for the rays down here work very well, 👍👍🎣🎣🎣

Hello Mark, great tutorial video - just wondering if it would be possible to put diagrams with component positions and line lengths etc
It is a good point and one that I have considered but I try to show my reasoning so that users can adjust to suit their own locations or needs. A quick google search will show most rigs in a standard format. By explaining why I have chosen lengths, terminal tackle or hooks I hope it will encourage people to experiment and adjust rather than blindly following a picture/drawing. I hope that helps.

Have you seen the 3 hook flapper rig on the channel as well? That would be my go to rig for a comp with small hooks/baits.

I mainly fish Bristol Channel mix to rough ground
@@mikeseatherton8855 I fish mainly clean ground so do not usually need a rotten bottom. I’m guessing they are standard for your fishing?
@@seaangling yes rotten bottom is a must on some marks and work well when needed 👍
I Mark it's a great video you explain everything very well the only problem with pulley dropper rigs I always feel the hook length doesn't slide down to the bottom until you have hooked a fish. I think when the rig hits the water it slides up to the top and once there is a belly in the line it will stay at the top.
Unless you fish it at slack, rods high, downtide or on an ebbing tide. This rig isn’t suitable for all places/tide.
Hi Mark, can you use the hearing aid tube on all the tubing parts please.
It is best used for anything that needs protecting or holding off. It can’t be used as a stop knot.

My feelings are that rigs with loose snoods ,as soon as they unclip by hitting the water,slide up to the top of the rig body .
They never slide down again while fishing ,because of current-tidepull.
Meaning both snoods lay over each other,while fishing on the seabed.
Untangling when winding in,and gives a wrong idea how the rig fishes
Maybe I’m wrong, I like fixed snoods,clipped,down or up and overdown
Hope someone understands my worries about flying up snoods wich never slide down when fishing .
100% mate, more of a slide up rig than a drop down unless fished in a none tidal zone.
I didn’t cover use in the video as it was a pure making one. I totally agree with what you say and the use of this rig is very specific. I wouldn’t use it on a flooding tide or cast uptide for the reasons you mention. It can be a very good slack water or turn of the tide ebbing rig. Some underwater footage would be amazing to see how it lays out. The technique of drawing back after the cast as the rig drops through the water and straightening it out works to improve most rig presentations. It is an interesting point. 👍🏻
Great vid Mark, Could the rig be fished with a drilled ball weight above the cascade swivel to help push the snood back down once in the water?
Have you got any videos explaining which rigs to use in different states of the tide?
I wonder if a light version of this would be good for shore fishing in the med?
Light or no tides in the med so quite possibly. I would consider changing from a “J” pattern hook to small circle or octopus hooks. Lighten the whole rig down to suit. Worth a try and I’d be interested to hear how you get on.

Hi mark what’s your view on using 60lb braid no shock leader fishing from the beach many thanks mate. Paul
Using braid straight through with no shock leader is possible on a fixed spool reel. There are some considerations with that though. Although there is no knot to a leader, braid does hold and attract some types of weed. This can be worse than mono which doesn’t grip it in the same way. Braid has very little abrasion resistance which doesn’t suit some areas. You will need to keep the line wet to avoid wind knots. I have fished braid straight through and prefer mono/shock leader.

I believe it is a standard size and the links change all of the time. Type hearing aid tubing into Amazon and take your pick. 👍🏻
