Ok so Pako is from Ikoria but I don't feel bad for missing that because I didn't want to waste time researching the game's worst legendary elemental. Also, I learned how to do book reports from Calvin and Hobbes, so.
If Kalamax has a 5 on Legendary, Pako should also have one, since there's also a short story about him and Haldan, which is (in my opinion) very flavourful and fits his mechanics.
I know the card Avenger of zendikar isnt a legendary, but what rank woukd you put it? Personally I'd put it pretty high since the card text really matches up with the art ( I'm referring to the dual decks version with the giant pyramid head) and i feel the idea of a giant plant leaving smaller plants in its wake that get boosted when new lands come into play really matches Zendikar's vibe of creation and messing with nature=overwhelming destruction
Are you ranking it against all the other elementals? Because then you have to compare it to like, 480+ cards. If you want to score it against just the other 31 on this list, then it doesn't seem fair because it wouldn't have an "L" rating. Overall I do like Avenger of Zendikar and it's a good fit for the plane itself but I think there are better "generic" elementals out there, so I'm not sure where it would wind up compared to all its cousins haha
so my worry with Omnath and I am sure part of the reason he was sealed in the first place is he is ever consuming, if he gets into black mana what's to stop him from pulling a Kirby and just eat the whole plane
@@danielgold9487 he'll be a five color eldrazi.... Maybe they come back and are the heroes? What happens to get rid of him? Bolas is released and works with his brother? So many ways they could take five color omnath
Ashling is one of my favorite characters in MtG, I really hope we get to see her again in some aspect if/when we return to Lorwyn (Speaking on that. I think that Kalamax caring for instants comes from the fact that the weather can change at an instant depending on his mood. Considering that he was made specifically commander any instant spell used is his mood toward the situation it's in. Who knows maybe I'm just reading too into it.

So glad you had Ashaya in 1rst place, I had hoped she would be near the top but its awesome she's first and she totally deserves it. Her ability to make all creatures lands allows them to activate landfall abilities and combined with the right ones like Felidar retreat and a Teleportation circle make for an incredible combo. One of the other things that I think is cool is that if you can get the indestructible land emblem from War of the Spark Nissa, then pretty much all of your creatures become indestructible. Ashaya also pairs super well with Boseiju Reaches Skyward from Kamigawa. Anyway great video & thanks Ryan & Nicole
This was excellent, make it a series please! I wouldn't want it cut down to just a top-10, but I could get behind a top-25 if the card pool for a group is too big to fit in a reasonable length video.

I definitely think you should do the long form. Lots of people do top 10 lists and then have to do special mentions or additional videos to appease people saying 'What about this?' I know that its extra effort having to do the research and write up, but it just makes it that much more special and gives a really good idea of your own personal ranking by seeing the full list of possibilities. If there are creature types that have A LOT more than this then maybe cut it down. Like I'm sure if you did legendary humans there are probably over a hundred by now, which does seem a bit much to rank each and every one. But I appreciated your top 31 for this, even if there were a few I would have ranked a little differently. Keep up the awesome work though, love your videos
As soon as I saw the title I felt Ashaya should be the number one but thought due to how new she was you would drop her a rank or two. Way to prove me wrong. This is a fantastic series. Can’t wait for the Angel and Dragon one !!

I really like the idea ranking legendary cards like this, and it's very helpful that you are looking for a framework to measure qualitative and quantitative/objective and subjective "greatness". There is a particular UA-cam channel "Useful Charts" that has a lot of information about real world family trees of Kings and Empires and they did a video making a ranked chart of their favorite crowns from history. If it would be possible to compare Legendary Magic cards to actual Kings, Kingdoms and Crowns from History, then to sort out between characters from the Pre Mending who may not necessarily interact with the Phyrexia directly but are still closely related to the epoch from the Antiquities-The Dark-Ice Age or to the Jamuraan Legends we could ask questions related to how much of Dominarian history did they really affect and get a more fair grade for some of them. Titania is ranked too low but this primarily because you are using a multiversal scope more than a planar scope which is reasonable except in the cases for: Dominaria Zendikar Tarkir And Innistrad Specifically because those four planes happen to be the key planes in the stories of Planeswalkers that are all more significant to the fate of the Multiverse than Azor's Guildpact which is a very significant measurement to achieve. (all of the planes Azor governed may each be as fascinating as Ravnica or Ixalan, just like Amonkhet is fascinating and so is Theros, but Nicol Bolas, the Phyrexians and the Eldrazi are tier level Crisis threats that vastly outshadow all antagonists that are only approximately equal to the level of the Izzet and Dimir, the Nephilim, Oona or Godzilla/the Apexes. Ruling over all of the "lesser supervillains" are the "lesser superheroes" like Azor and Karn whose vigilance will be more than enough to keep most problems under control. The three greatest villains in Magic are each too much for the best of the best heroes individually and the history of the very special planes where these evils originate should not be equated to planes of lesser significance. This would privilege Dominaria especially and give the early Magic sets compensation for being designed before sets were looking at planes beyond Dominaria to the degree they do today. It also happens to give a boost to Innistrad Zendikar and Tarkir for being connected to Sorin Markov Nahiri the Lithomancer and Ugin the Spirit Dragon who all seem to be older than Liliana Vess, for a long time one of the oldest Planeswalkers to have a card, and therefore it might be revealed later on that many significant characters visited these planes in the gaps in the history as we know it currently which would make room for any of them to rival Ravnica in fame to the players.
Awesome video as always. I wish they'd let me upvote twice, on your videos. Gonna go back at listen to you tell me about the Eldrazi for the 30th time. Safe travels friend.
That is the biggest thing i miss about Magic Story. The fact when we got a new set and a new book would come out we would have a fresh take with brand new characters to help explore the new world with. Even if it was on a plane we have seen before it would still be fresh with those new faces. Now that it started to focus on planeswalkers or following the same planeswalkers around, there have been times I felt the vast multiverse was much smaller now because all we would do is follow Jace, Lilliana, Nissa or whoever.
Now I know the background on Phylath, I love it/her/him in relation to the Avenger of Zendikar. The Avenger cares about lots of plants (all of Zendikar), while Phylath cares about a small, really well kept garden.
Phylath is my favorite legendary card from Zendikar so far. They make a great "combo" with Ashaya. Muldrotha is my favorite legend from Dominaria (the set, not the plane) and is my go to commander for historic Brawl and when we can play in person again, I'll finish her commander. I think that doing like this is awesome. I don't know how much work went into it, so i don't know if it is worth it. But from a pure viewer perspective is perfect. Molimo was in the very first deck that I built, using the card of an older cousin. The deck was terrible whe were both kids and we only had one copy of any card... And as I said earlier, I like Ashaya, it woudn't be my first place, but using your ranking I think she at least deserves it. On Kalamax, I feel the arguments on storm representation as far as card types is valid, but if we assume the connection between the weather and Kalamax’s mood is instantaneous- as mood shifts often are- it fits that Kalamax as a legendary is the exception. Love this series idea, and I’m excited/hopeful for more!
Yes, very passionate response toward Animar. And yes, maybe you're right about him being a living land that doesn't care about lands, but when you think about him being some sort of caretaker of creatures who gets stronger the more creatures you have, which enables him to help you bring more creatures out which then makes him even stronger and the cycle goes on. Unless I'm missing some lore here. Idk, he was my first successful attempt at a Commander deck. I feel some personal attachment to my Temur-flavored boi
I always respect the personal attachment of somebody's first Commander, and you didn't miss any lore - as far as I can tell, there hasn't really been any written for Animar yet.
Could you put an update to your list at the end of the Zendikar Rising story update? Lord knows that story will boost (or lower) those scores. Heck even a 5 minute video would be great. Keep making great content!
Instantly knew Ashaya would be such a high rank! Only just started playing MTG recently, and this is easily my favourite card both thematically and mechanically
I have Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar in my Radha, Heart of Keld EDH deck. It feels natural, to me, due to how he assisted her into regaining a connection to green mana in the Future Sight novel.
Like the way you rank the cards, but I think it would make even more sense to only include the best card of one specific legendary into the list (f.e. only the best Omnath).
I suspect tying Kalamax's abilities to copying stuff is to draw a line between his weather powers and the Storm mechanic, so his card less represents the weather changing with his mood and more his mood changing with the weather (if you consider copying spells to be weather and him getting counters to be a mood change)
Hey Ryan, you're aware you're gonna have to update, since omnath is growing to 5c color soon. And perhaps he became the next big bad boy of the mtg mythos, they're building hype for so many years. Wotc is crazy enough to make a "colorless" five colored Omnath, locus of everything. Who knows 😂. Nice video btw, cheers from Brazil.
Hey Ryan! Nice video as always :) One thing, I've got some question about the "underworld(s)" in Magic, can you maybe do a video about this too? Like are there many underworlds, like for each plane or whats the difference when you compare Theros (w. underworld) to other planes in terms of the afterlife? Or another thing, as we can see in the Theros trailer there is Ashiok too, so is the underworld a typical setting for planeswalking? Best regards!
Yeah it seems UA-cam has upped the number of ads across the board and I don't have a lot of control over that. With enough support on Patreon I wouldn't have to monetize these videos at all but right now they're my main source of income.
I really wish we would actually get some story with Omnath ... Like this crazy power house of elemental sucking up all the colors and becoming the size of like mountains. And no one got anything to say about it? Granted there are more pressing things going on in the stories when we visit Zendikar, but for such a unique legend to appear Every single time we visit. Something would be cool.

So there is a story about Titania surviving the Brother's War. I only read it recently myself but it was a really cool look at things like her surviving through different means than we have grown to expect things in Magic to survive. The story is called: A Song Out of Darkness, in the book Colors of Magic: Anthology. I realize this sounds like a "well actually" comment. I'm sorry it happened that way but i thought i would share. That whole book has things that take place between the stories of Brothers war and the start of the Ice Age plus one or two during the Thaw.

Titania is ranked too low but this primarily because you are using a multiversal scope more than a planar scope which is reasonable except in the cases for:

Instantly knew Ashaya would be such a high rank! Only just started playing MTG recently, and this is easily my favourite card both thematically and mechanically
I can't wait for more videos like this.
I love this type of video!
Ashaya is going to become a commander staple for mono-green in the next few years. There’s no way it won’t
3:30 "Making infinite triggers but we cant have that" just the way he said it made me laugh
Seeing Ashaya, Nissa's partner Elemental be #1 feels almost poetic!
I have Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar in my Radha, Heart of Keld EDH deck. It feels natural, to me, due to how he assisted her into regaining a connection to green mana in the Future Sight novel.
I expected you to group the different versions of a same character, because I was already thinking about Omnath at the time
Like the way you rank the cards, but I think it would make even more sense to only include the best card of one specific legendary into the list (f.e. only the best Omnath).
I suspect tying Kalamax's abilities to copying stuff is to draw a line between his weather powers and the Storm mechanic, so his card less represents the weather changing with his mood and more his mood changing with the weather (if you consider copying spells to be weather and him getting counters to be a mood change)
Thumbnail made me think it was a Spice8Rack video at first glance.
Great content tho, keep it up
"He's only a 4/4 for like a hundred mana."
Was laughing so hard, my cat got up to check on me.
Would love to see one of these with each Planeswalker (not necessarily each card)
Yay new story time! I love these things.
Hey Ryan! Nice video as always :)
One thing, I've got some question about the "underworld(s)" in Magic, can you maybe do a video about this too?
Like are there many underworlds, like for each plane or whats the difference when you compare Theros (w. underworld) to other planes in terms of the afterlife?
Or another thing, as we can see in the Theros trailer there is Ashiok too, so is the underworld a typical setting for planeswalking?
Best regards!
Yeah we can put that on our list. Thanks for the idea!
I love this channel
I’m glad to see some Silvos love, and I’m sure Pleasant Kenobi will be too!
9:47 "so powerful he was banned in commander" It still hurts and I blame jimmy wong
Love the derision in his voice when talking about Pako. Must be a cat person. LOL
Really hope we get a return to lorwyn / shadowmoor, super sweet plane!
Dang, my favorite commander deck got so close, taking second place. I’d honestly watch more vids in the channel if there weren’t so many dang ads.
Yeah it seems UA-cam has upped the number of ads across the board and I don't have a lot of control over that. With enough support on Patreon I wouldn't have to monetize these videos at all but right now they're my main source of income.
The L.O.R.E system is very original and cool!
I loved the 'wink wink, nod nod' to the camera when mentioning the UA-cam algorithm 😂
So I knew Omnath would be all over this list. Love that manalemental!
@Magic Arcanum, again a very cool video my king 😁👑 you get better and better 😎👑 and I like your videos a lot. You are great my king 👑😊. Have a nice weekend my king 👑😊 your loyal friend servant and friend, Marcel
I consider your comments to be a key part of every new video. You're the best Marcel. Thanks for stopping by!
That is an honor my king 😁👑 thank you very much 😊👑
2:47 um pako is from ikoria, thats like the whole point of the ikoria commander decks is that there from ikoria
It's fine, he's still the worst.
I hadn't heard of that one! Still, I was careful to say she was "believed to have perished" so I think I'm covered either way, haha
Magic Arcanum Most deffinatly okay! Its all good, like i said i only recently read it, and it was surprising.
My new most favorite nickname for a creature: "The Angry Jellybean"
Thank you for the LOLs!
