Anowon gives all Rogues a "saboteur" ability. The idea of these abilities is that they reward your creatures for sneaking behind enemy lines. So while Anowon isn't evasive, he rewards evasiveness by painting a target on your opponents. More of a thief lord than just a thief.

Eron the Relentless is my first commander. When I started playing Magic I ordered a box of 1000 or so cards, cant remember. One of them was Eron. He's my baby; I always improve him when I can, and I find his lore very fun. Being the Goblin King, I've stuffed him with Gobbos. I have the card I found and now also a Timespiral foil of Eron that pops. Red deck wins
Assembled my own red legendary deck with Joven, Chandler and Eron The Relentless. My own three Musketeers of sorts. Except that one of the Musketeers wants to murder the other two. Details.
Sakushima's story makes me think of a D&D character I wanted to try and build. A young spell thief who who eventually pursues ur-priest, literally stealing magic from the gods, hoping to one day steal a seat among them to become a god himself.
Sakashima have a whole chapter of lore you can find online in a old wotc website (i think the wiki have a direct link for it) and the chapter is amazing and, imo, heartwarming!
Love the video! Shouldn't Varragoth's reflection score be higher though? Isn't it supposed to reflect his time teaching and leading the Skelle clan which was the reason Immersturm was locked away?
I am surprised both Tinybones and especially Varrogoth were as high as they were. It still annoys me that Varrogoth would likely be a Demon Berserker if it wasn't for forcing the party mechanic, and even then Demon Warrior would have made more sense for that purpose. Maybe they wanted to avoid making Najeela even more broken though. Oh well.
I’m making a commander deck for each guild color and color combination with rouges. I’m glad to see 4 I have are already made with commanders in this list
Really cool that you included Marrowgnawer and all the Kamigawa cards. He had quite a cool role in the Kamigawa novels, as a part of the Hyozan avenger group. Fun and informative video, as usual. Same for including Tetsuko. Does that basically proof that Toshiro Umezawa has been sent to Dominaria, after the events of the novels, since Tetsuko is a char on that plane?
LOL Chandler after a short career as a bumbling Rogue in MTG he planeswalked, accidentally, to become a star in a hit series called Friends where he had a longer career as a funny bumbling rogue-ish character :P
So in magic a few things in function to flavor, a deck is your memories, and your hand is like active thoughts, the deck and hand can also symbolize sanity. So discarding cards could be confusing the enemy, making people lose their mind and So on, same kinda goes with Mill effects as stealing thoughts, memories, and sanity. The artifact destruction, on the older cards could be the flavor of stealing, and immediatly selling it. The only flavor loss then is its in the 'yard.
I for one would like to see a return of Tetsuko, especially given that I'm assuming she wouldn't know what became of Nicol Bolas after War of the Spark.
@@MagicArcanum That seems like a good excuse to become the paranoid Batman of the Magic multiverse. “Oh, he’s dead, huh? I’ll believe it when I see a body.”

Thanks for no escape school, you made my parents keep me home. I'm bored], but at least I got to see my favorite lore teller in the multiverse. It's also been a long time since I opened a pack, now I have to pay $90- $140 for the standard deck I've made.
Marrow Gnawer's ability is so flavorful to his lore and I love it. He slew the leaders of the other Nezumi gangs (sacrificing a rat) to take control of thier gang and gain thier followers (creating rat tokens).
That is an interesting way to look at it. I suppose that does represent his story better, but it still doesn't seem like a "rogue" ability, so much as a leadership one.
I know it’s been a while since they came out but I’d really like to see a history video for the Aetherborn. I think they look amazing and like watching Magic Arcanum.
On the subject of aetherborn, has anyone read Walter John Williams' Metropolitan / City on Fire? I see the aetherborn as analagous to the Hanged Men. Both live in the city's currents of aether/plasm and are otherworldly strange creatures with terrible powers. I dunno.
Destroying artifacts specifically always struck me as flavorful on a rogue card because I think of sabotage as up there with stealing or forgery as, "classic job you'd hire a rogue to do."
I thought destroying the artifacts represented the fact that they weren't keeping them but rather selling them away, so neither side gets them. I guess exiling them and making a treasure token would be closer to evoking that if the card were to be made again today
for Joven, Chandler, and Tinybones, I'd like to think the reason why they don't take control of permanents is because they take the thing and then sell it for themselves who said your creatures always served you unconditionally?
Discarding cards is associated with madness and losing your mind in countless card names and flavor texts, so I'm not surprised that Gwendlyn does it, too. You see, because you "lose your mind" for the sexy girl and you are "crazy about her"...
"Legendary... this will probably favor newer characters.." Top 10 includes 3 older characters with a lot of story and 3 newer characters with little story.
Didnt Anowon guide a planeswalker (not sure which) to the Eye of Ugin, indirectly being responsable for the release of the Eldrazi? That's a pretty big inpact in the story.
For most demons yes, but Varragoth seems to be obsessed with just causing death and destruction. He doesn't have the materialistic desires of his demon cousins. The humans of Bretagard still refer to winter as "Bloodsky" season in memory of how much suffering Varragoth inflicted. Honestly I feel like he should have gotten the boast ability that wound up on Eradicator Valkyrie.
I understand that neither Dack Fayden and Oko have rogue creature types (since, you know, they're Planeswalkers) but there's a rather strong argument that they are indeed rogues. Could've been worth an honorable mention, I guess
I've decided planeswalkers don't get mentioned in these videos, as they are supposed to about the legendary characters. Planeswalkers get plenty of coverage in the story recaps and I thought folks could use a break from seeing them from time to time. But yes, Dack and Oko would have been worthy inclusions.
