To everyone calling out me saying we were never going back to Kamigawa in the face of the Neon Dynasty announcement: I'd like to see some actual cards before I pass judgement, but so far it seems we are returning in name only, because they appear to be jumping ahead thousands of years and distancing themselves from everything that happened on our previous visit as much as possible. In regards to monored Commander, one of the big tips I could give is to have multiple gameplans. The nature of red's card draw will usually result in you losing out on something by discarding it or exiling it. Redundancies and alternatives all help with making sure you retain a path to victory. Also, have fun!
By all means, your #1 is definitely #1 by my rating too. I wish we could have a one-armed dog mom card in a future set, she deserves many more representations. Definitely the most deserving of praise.
Really enjoy these LORE videos! For a red commander deck, I really enjoyed Etali, with haste enabelers and then the deck with ramp and other big creatures that enjoyed the haste that i neede for etali anyways. Daretti was also fun, but is more artefact then red. Also, krak the thumbless, togo weapensmith and breeches (these last two interact favorable with eachother) could be really fun mono red partners. All in all red is one of my favourite colors in EDH, sunbirds invocation, experimental frenzy and stolen startegies are just so much fun.
Etali Primal Storm has been my favorite deck for a long time now because it scales to the table so well no matter what power level they are. It’s also very fun to explore how red ramps and tackles card draw!
I would’ve honestly expected Heliod to rank higher but Hazoret was my top pick from the start. Surviving the hour of devastation through sheer power and will force and then trumping over nicol bolas while becoming the sole true protector of her people after all the lies had been revealed and literally fighting the horrors of the dessert for Amonketh is way more than any god has ever done for their followers. For me in particular Kruphix would be the most interesting of the Theros gods, he’s seen some shit, he knows they are fucked but in the end he never really took the proactive approach to save Theros, one way or the other. If we ever get a Phyrexian Invasion of Theros (as kinda foretold by Elspeth’s Nightmare) I hope he gets more time in the spotlight.
My mono red commander deck is ilharg and runs "confusion in the ranks", "scrambleverse", "thieves auction", "illicit auction" and other crazy cards like that. Doesn't work well for quarantine webcam magic, but it's a lot of fun in person... Whenever we get to do that again
I didn't know Kruphix was so aware of threats from other planes. I think thats cool. He's always been one of my favorite gods. They mentioned him in a card in commander legends that i think is sweet. Horizon Stone has one of his abilities on it and cool flavor text to go with it.
It's more meant for casual play, but I did put together a Hazoret Voltron commander deck. I added burnspells and some discards to remove any small creatures attempting to block so I can get in. This deck has won before in an insane way. The final opponent was running an Aminatou deck and took control of my commander. Bad new was he could attack because he was getting too many cards in hand. I had a bearer of the heavens in play an became swinging at him with that which did win when I doubled the damage dealt by the creature.
Might be too late to give tips for mono red but as a land guy i can help with ramping ...... koth the planeswalker helps with mountains and valakut gives free bolts per mountain, the mdfc from znr are good and vance blasting cannon gives reusable repeating barrage
For my king Ryan 😁👑 @MagicArcanum Creature : Grim Initiate Aven Eternal Gleaiming Overseer Vizier of the Scorpion Dreadhorde Twin Eternal Skylord Herald of the Dreadhorde Lazotep Reaver Frontier Warmonger Neheb Dreadhorde Champion Instant / Soccery : Invade the City Relentless Advance Lazotep Planting Honor of the God Pharao Callous Dismissal Toll of the Invasion Crush Dissent Planeswalker : Liliana, Walker of the Dead
Definitely suggest trying a mono-red Purphuros God of the Forge commander deck! Obviously going crazy with the token making and cards that help you deal that extra ooomph when hitting with purphuros. Such as damage doublers and even Torbran! lol
If you're going to build Hazoret, I recommend cards that can be cast from the grave. Flashback, Escape, Jumpstart, etc. Even when your hand is empty, you have a full hand to play.
As always love the content! I’ve got a post war of the spark D&D campaign where the players dimension do....planeswalk between mtg inspired and D&D lands. The gods or lack there of are really nice to add in. Also just saying, I’ve had the zendikar part of the world/plane dealing with the lack of eldrazi(gods) for like a year or 2 now.
Monored commander deck? I love mine! (helmed by Kiki-Jiki) here's what I use for card advantage: Skullclamp Endless Atlas Valakut Exploration Karn, Scion of Urza Chandra, Fire Artisan Chandra, Torch of Defiance Chandra, Pyromaster Outpost Siege Mind’s Eye Chandra, Flamecaller Commune with Lava If you need more, Vance's Blasting Cannons Dream Pillager Tower of Fortunes Loreseeker's Stone wheel effects
Purphorose Bronze blooded is an excellent monored commander. His one draw back is that deck tends to swing wildly from doing basically nothing to exploding your entire hand onto the board and wiping out everyone in a big surprise turn. But this has been my experience with monored commanders in general.
Likewise. I was rooting for Jackalmom the whole time. I only wish she was a bit more viable in Commander. Hopefully that wish will be fulfilled next time she gets a card.
Sneak attack would be super beneficial in a mono red hazoret, also throw in sundial of the infinite so those sneak attack and purphurose bronze blooded creatures stay on the battlefield permanently. I'd also recommend Leyline Tyrant. And if you run nothing but basic mountains since you won't be keeping cards in hand much you can run burning earth so non-basic lands deal damage to their controller. Zozu might be a good add. I'd also recommend Fiery Emancipation. Thrill of possibility and faithless looting. Or if you wanna run a vampire sub-theme there is a mono red vampire I think that gives all your vampires madness so you can cast them when you discard them. I'd also run braid of fire, so you can get activations from hazoret during your upkeep.
In aspect what you said was the god of your Favorite Color Parring with the God if Gorgons fir me it would be Athreos, i love Orzhov Decks i have 2 Commander decks and Both Are Mardu (manly Orzhov with a splash of Red ) and the "revival" theme of Athreos god of Passage can be devastating in Combo with one of my most fav Legendary Creatures , Teysa Karlov. I love the Orzhov Guild of Ravnica because of the Dark theme and Plots in the Background while being a Church and part white to "support" the Community of Ravnica. And i really like the story of the Orzhov guild too with the Ghost Council , Teysa and Kaya.
If anyone did read this and is thinking which Commanders i did choose one deck is kaalia of the Vast (with mainly angels and demons) and 2nd is an Aristocrat deck with alesha who smiles at death as Commander with Teysa Karlov as hidden Commander in the 99
My two favorite Gods both work best in Commander. And only one of them is even in Arcanum's Top Ten. Kruphix is the Commander of my Blue/Green Commander Deck, because he's indestructible, which generally gives him better staying power than most other Commanders, and he's effective on the battlefield, even when he's relegated to only being an Enchantment. This is because you have no maximum hand size when he's in play, and also because you can "stack mana," by tapping lands for nothing, then keeping that colorless mana in reserve, for later/emergency use. In Commander, in which games tend to go a little bit "long" in duration, this is a massive bonus in the later stages of the battle. My second favorite is Oketra (non-eternal). I love that she is Indestructible, AND has double-strike, which makes her a singularly lethal force on the battlefield. And her "weakness" of being unable to operate without you having at least three other creatures on the battlefield is easy to get around, if you place her in a token deck. White and Green are both potent token-producing colors. So Oketra goes into my White-Green Commander Deck (not as the Commander, but she's still a pretty huge weapon, should I come across her during a game). She's also pretty bleeping LETHAL, when she's paired up with someone like ELESH NORN!! Imagine Elesh Norn beefing Oketra up, while also broadly weakening your opponent's battlefield state, just by sitting there! Elesh Norn helps Oketra BRING THE PAIN to my opponents!
Just letting you know that I preemptively gave this video a thumbs up. Theros is my favorite plane and the gods are my favorite creature type. Gods are the only cards that I actively collect just to have.
I am really excited for the Kaldheim set and there because I like the Norse Gods so much. Hope they are just as fun and lore relevant as some of the higher ranked cards in your list.
Amazing story time as always! As a constructive criticism i'd say that this time the "Extra" was a little bit too personal and tent to score higher on good/generic god while penalize interesting gods that are more on the evil side, that said I love how many new niche things I learn about this wonderful multiverse every time I watch one of your videos!
My Zurzoth EDH deck is one of my faves ever; if you've got a spare $200 lying around, a Gauntlet of Might is pretty much the biggest flex mono-red can pull off right now (save for a Summer Magic Wheel of Fortune, ikik)
I recommend Jimmy decks from the comand zone. He plays red deck all the time. And an encanment that's good, is the one that's give you one red mana at each upkeep. And give you more the longer its last
3:36 That was both funny and sad. I really like a lot of the kamigawa mechanics and cards, like the orochi, but I know that they will never go back there, unless it's a one-off card
If you are looking to play Mono-red in Commander, my biggest tip is just dont get attached to the cards you have right now. Red loves wheels, exile until end of turn, and looting style draws. So just dont get too attached to what you have right now, it's much better to see what the future may hold!
4:00 i believe being half bull, half human makes you a minotaur. Mogis is also a Minotaur, but his top half is bulllike and his bottom half is humanlike, which is more akin to a normal minotaur.
Hazoret commander deck: 1 Hazoret, 99 mountains. Mulligan down to 1 card in hand. Play a mountain every turn, discard extra mountains to hazoret to dome your opponents. Optionally, you can run damage based board wipes if your opponents play heavy creature Decks. You're welcome 😉👉
The war of the spark story has a lot of of problems but the biggest is that bontu exploded rather than becoming an all-powerful zombie-god planeswalker that starts terrorizing the multiverse
Awesome video. I would like to have at least a passing reference to the apexes from Ikoria. Not that they are godly or anything like it, it's just that they have mythos about them. And that could be the start of something.
I have 3 god Commander decks, two of my top 3 favorite are new Thassa and new Heliod. Also have Erebos, not a great deck but I love him so much. I also throw Amohnket gods into a lot of decks. Thanks for the cool god video! Signed, this atheist.
The top 3 gods are all red ... does that mean anything in some way ? Btw, Hazoret commander sounds great, you should include madness cards (specifically thinking about fiery temper but there are probably other good ones that I'm not thinking about right now)
Yeah. At the time, I wasn't fully aware of the ecological implications of blockchain-driven technology. I have not run another advertisement with this company and/or their game since, and I don't plan to, but I did sign a contract with them at the time which means the video must remain up (at least for now.) While I do have some regrets in endorsing a game based on blockchain tech, I do not regret taking a sponsorship. I have bills, the same as everyone else, and sadly, I don't have enough patrons (yet) to be at a point where I can turn down generous offers like I received from Gods Unchained.
"you can't devote yourself to a god that only exist to destroy you and your home." dude read some ancient Sumerian myths, the people basically worshiped the gods so they wouldn't blow them up out of spite, love the video
Yeah but they "knew" about those gods, while Scarab and Locust just showed up and started wrecking things. Didn't leave much time for people to devote themselves (even out of desperation) ya know?
@@MagicArcanum No yeah fair, I could imagine though one or two people after they killed Rhonas going, "oh this guy is even stronger than Rhonas, I'm gonna work for him."
I just noticed Iroas is a reverse minotaur since he has a bull half, and mogis is a normal minotaur. It fits them pretty well, if only they where more mirrored.
So from what it looks like, you didn’t use Mythic Odyssey’s of Theros, which I understand as it seems to change some things about the lore. Do you think you will do a video about the differences? Also, I’ve been making a purphoros, bronze blooded EDH deck all about the sneak attack mechanic, I suggest looking into that!
I don't want to encourage WotC to spread the lore across product lines when it should be self-contained within the resources available to Magic itself.
Great video as always! I came here to ask one thing though: I've been listening to the Dragon Shield podcast, and the second most recent episode featured the village of Letson. I don't know how it's spelled since I'm listening to the story rather than reading, but I've been wanting to ask--did you get that added to the story as a tribute to Nicole? I've been hoping that was the case since I first heard it. :-)
Aesthetically speaking, I like Thassa the most. I have a goddess leg piece tattoo, similar, similar to her, only with an octopuses lower body. Kruphix, Phenax, and Athreos are also up there!!!
Biggest tip for mono red is to go all in on one strategy. Flexible utility cards will slow you down. You're trying to be the thing everybody has to answer and that doesn't leave time for you to have answers in your deck. Maybe that changes if you build something like Daretti or new Purphorose, but cards like Neheb or Krenko or Ilharg, sell out. All in. All in. All in.

Next; Every Legendary Angels in Magic Ranked by L.O.R.E.!!!
3:36 "nah thats never gonna happen"
Based on first impressions, we are returning to Kamigawa in name only. We'll have to see how much it resembles our original visit, if at all.
@@MagicArcanum I know I know, just teasing a bit ;)
I've heard what Iroas is referred to as a Manotaur (Dungeons and Dragons). Love the content Ryan and Nicole, keep it up!
Love this series!
Would nice to see a lore ranking about demons

Me: HOT DAMN.
first face reveal???
@@impendio As far as I know, yes. And *gods be damned* is she a looker!
@@impendio no, I was just watching the old Slivers video and she's on camera there. I think that's her. I don't know, I'm confused.
Could you do top 10 merfolk, elves or faeries? No matter how long I play the game I always come back to these tribes. Great video as always.
Double strike archer = quickly shooting 2 arrows?
I kinda see it as (first strike) arrow (normal damage) melee attack. So more shown opera's skill with more than just a bow.

Might be too late to give tips for mono red but as a land guy i can help with ramping ......
koth the planeswalker helps with mountains and valakut gives free bolts per mountain, the mdfc from znr are good and vance blasting cannon gives reusable repeating barrage

Definitely suggest trying a mono-red Purphuros God of the Forge commander deck! Obviously going crazy with the token making and cards that help you deal that extra ooomph when hitting with purphuros. Such as damage doublers and even Torbran! lol
Making an edh deck around hazoret will be hard...but you can get there with planeswalker/creatures/enchantments that allow impulse draw.
Never going back to Kamigawa you say??????? Curious
For everyone’s sake as well. Try out this game, I just downloaded and finished my first few matches, Its pretty good! Hearthstone meets magic.
Monored commander deck? I love mine! (helmed by Kiki-Jiki)
here's what I use for card advantage:
Skullclamp
Endless Atlas
Valakut Exploration
Karn, Scion of Urza
Chandra, Fire Artisan
Chandra, Torch of Defiance
Chandra, Pyromaster
Outpost Siege
Mind’s Eye
Chandra, Flamecaller
Commune with Lava
If you need more,
Vance's Blasting Cannons
Dream Pillager
Tower of Fortunes
Loreseeker's Stone
wheel effects
As someone who has a Hazoret commander deck this list pleases me greatly.
This video came out the same day leaks came out about Kaldhiem.
Coincidence? I think not
I have a super fun purphoros mono commander deck using his destructive nature on phoenixes :) Definately worth the look into
Purphorose Bronze blooded is an excellent monored commander.
His one draw back is that deck tends to swing wildly from doing basically nothing to exploding your entire hand onto the board and wiping out everyone in a big surprise turn.
But this has been my experience with monored commanders in general.
I was holding out on hazoret from the start! My smile got bigger with every passing God.
Likewise. I was rooting for Jackalmom the whole time. I only wish she was a bit more viable in Commander. Hopefully that wish will be fulfilled next time she gets a card.
@@hyousai I lowkey want a Boros Hazoret, being the survivor. I feel her biggest lacking in commander is being restricted to Mono-red.
I did not expect an actual Golden Mustache at the end 🤣
If you're building a Hazoret deck, I highly recommend the card "Amok". It's a cheap way to get cards out of your hand and still get value from them.
Plus, you can go "Amok, amok, amok!" when you cast it!
And give you more the longer its last
My favorite of the Gods of Magic made number 1! I'm so happy 😄
With Kaldheim out, I can't help but wonder how the list would turn out with its gods included, a list update video perhaps?
If you are building a mono red deck you might want to run Commune with Lava. It's one of the better impulse draw options out there.
Hazoret commander deck:
1 Hazoret,
99 mountains.
Mulligan down to 1 card in hand.
Play a mountain every turn, discard extra mountains to hazoret to dome your opponents.
Optionally, you can run damage based board wipes if your opponents play heavy creature Decks.
You're welcome 😉👉
Bold strategy.
I didn't see that top 3 coming at all. Interesting stuff
No Karona, god of the beer? *Cries in false god*
The top 3 gods are all red ... does that mean anything in some way ?
Btw, Hazoret commander sounds great, you should include madness cards (specifically thinking about fiery temper but there are probably other good ones that I'm not thinking about right now)
The nft ad from 2 years ago is like a childhood picture with a new bike that then you broke your leg with a few months after
Yeah. At the time, I wasn't fully aware of the ecological implications of blockchain-driven technology. I have not run another advertisement with this company and/or their game since, and I don't plan to, but I did sign a contract with them at the time which means the video must remain up (at least for now.)
While I do have some regrets in endorsing a game based on blockchain tech, I do not regret taking a sponsorship. I have bills, the same as everyone else, and sadly, I don't have enough patrons (yet) to be at a point where I can turn down generous offers like I received from Gods Unchained.
@@MagicArcanum anyone looking at the 2yrs ago date and holding this against you is just being mean, you carry on king
"you can't devote yourself to a god that only exist to destroy you and your home."
dude read some ancient Sumerian myths, the people basically worshiped the gods so they wouldn't blow them up out of spite, love the video
I was not expecting anti-rogue tech, but I'm here for it
Great video as always! :-)
I can neither confirm nor deny she's the source of inspiration but it sure is interesting that they're spelled the same way, isn't it? 😇
All in. All in. All in.
