Big thank you on this spindle change out video. I bought a John Deere LA 115 in 2009. I had a spindle going out in 2024 with 350 hours. I changed out both spindles with this video. The only problem I had was with the 8 self tapping bolts that John Deere sells separately. They thread into the holes of the spindles. I wish Deere would just sell the spindle and bolts together. It would have saved me time. Any way this video really helped me!
Thanks! Watching your video gave me confidence to do this myself instead of sending it to the shop. Everything worked great. Please get a six pack and enjoy one for me.
I'm a new john deere owner of an s120. Its not even a year old but I love watching your videos so I may know what to do in the future. Thank you! God bless.
Just wanted to thank. I had to change out my spindle and your video helped tremendously. The only difference is that my bolts were very hard to remove. The whole process took 6 hours, and I changed my blades at the same time. My JD has 3 blades. Again, thank you.
First of all, THANK YOU! I had to replace a failed spindle on my D110 yesterday, and this video was outstandingly helpful. Good camera angles, tool size references and straight forward narration. I wanted you to know I appreciated it.
Good stuff dude. I just bought a John Deere. I’m fixing up my 18 year old craftsman and need to change the spindles and blade brakes. I’ll watch your video on blade brakes next.
How do you find the time to get all of your projects & then some you don't expect to have go wrong. I can't commend you enough for all the great things that you have done to help everyone that wouldn't take on the things on their own without your helpful ways. Thanks again for everything you've done to make things easier for the rest of diy world. Thanks, Ron
Thanks for the nice comment Ron. Comments like this help me keep making videos to help people. I do take a week off here and there. I kinda enjoy editing my videos. My UA-cam channel also makes me about .01 cents per view. Some people do not know we do me a little money. It sure helps my family especially since everything is getting so expensive. Thanks again hope all is well
Great video! Excellent workmanship. Diligent in describing each detail. Kind of what I would imagine “shop class” would be like. I kept expecting a random “Dad joke” to be thrown in there. No disrespect but you could probably make the corniest jokes be hilarious!
My video's have improved since this one, and I try to be more myself which does include some dry humor from time to time. thanks for watching and subbing if you did
I really wish that one of these videos on replacing a spindle would tell us which side of the pulley should face up and which side should face down. I believe that it's pretty important.
Hi, great informative video. I need to replace one of my spindle assemblies. When you're removing the nut that holds the pulley onto the spindle assembly, are you turning the nut counter clockwise? I'm using a socket with a breaker bar & a piece of pipe on the bar for leverage and I can't get the nut loose. It's not rusted. The mower (JD E100 w/ 42" deck) is only 3 years old.
@@DIYJIM Used some penetrating oil on the spindle nut and it came off fairly easy. Now I'm just waiting on the new spindle assembly from Amazon. Thanks much for your extremely helpful videos and your replies to my questions.
@@DIYJIM Jim, a quick question: the new spindles I received today came with all the associated hardware but no washer to place between the blade and the main retaining nut. I noticed that both the new upper and lower nuts have an extended lip, called a flange nut I think. I'm wondering if I should still use the old lower washer even though the original blade nut did not have a flange. Thoughts?
My spindles were replaced a year ago and one of the pulleys is loose, the bolt is tight but the pulley has a little wobble to it. Can't tighten or losen the bolt. Can the sgaure hole in the pulley wear out?
Thank you for the video Jim, have you ever change a camshaft apparently they go bad a lot the decompression part brakes off very hard to please let me know thank you brother
why did you not fill spindles with grease. Takes 40 or more pumps to fill housing to get grease in bearings. Low grease is death to bearings. Thought l would mention .Today l have been working on this issue. Good video
Nothing but compliments here. I’ve never seen your videos before but was the first when I looked up how to replace a spindle. 1st, the organization and explanation of tools needed BEFORE you start the job was amazing! I wish more people took the “assumption” out of their videos. 2nd, great angles and verbals descriptions of what you were doing and how you were going to accomplish it. I will be more than happy to use your affiliate links for my parts when I get my mower back from the shop, simply for the fact that you took the time to put this information together!!!
Awesome video! I'm pretty sure I need to replace a spindle- I'll look now. One of the two covers is pretty much beaten up too. Any suggestions on where to get those? Thanks again!
