      I would add to that white pasta & white rice because all the nutrients have been removed and replaced with synthetic nutrients ( which the body doesn't asborb as efficiently as the natural nutrients that have been removed).

      There's nothing wrong with including "artificial" sweeteners, white bread, and most food "additives" in your diet. What's important is CALORIES, and lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans in your diet. If you eat a high fiber diet then some Splenda in your coffee and oatmeal is not going to mess up your gut 'biome". Sucralose is a hundred times sweeter than sugar so you only need a tiny amount. The studies that show effects on gut bacteria involve mice consuming mega amounts of Sucralose.

    Thank you for this wonderful conversation. Can’t stress enough the harms in our food system. Thank you for the sandwich suggestion. After listening, I marinated and baked some tempeh using a Rip Esselstyn recipe. No tomato or sourdough in the house so I made a tempeh bacon, lettuce, red onion, and avocado sandwich on Dave’s Killer Powerseed bread. So delicious and filling! 🙏🏼 😋

    One of the things I like about these broadcasts is that doctors with different areas of expertise all arrive at the same consensus - eating a whole food plant based diet - even though they might disagree on some of the minor points. That shows me that they're all doing research and coming to conclusions without simply parroting the wfpb party line espoused by Dr. Barnard, Esselstyn, or any other one person.

    I used to eat bacon tempeh in the past until I noticed that three strips have 800mg of sodium! One package goes over 1500mg of sodium. These days I just eat tempeh without salt and cooked in water to limit the advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs). The sandwich is definitely delicious, some tepmeh with tomato and greens with some avocado, fantastic.

    Continuous bread dough, microwave oven and toaster oven. I make sourdough "buns" at least every other day. Put some dough in bowl or on a plate. Nuke for 2 minutes(varies with your oven). The bottom of the bun will have some moisture but that helps release it from the container. 5 minutes in toaster oven. Set temperature for crustiness.
    For the continuous dough, I made the first batch with yeast. I ferment it in the refrigerator. Bake some buns(pizza, flatbread, focaccia, etc), but save some of the dough for the next batch. If you add the same proportions of flour and water, you'll maintain the same hydration. But I just add some water to the old dough. Stir till I get a slurry. Add some flour till I get the dough looking good. Back in the frig for the next time.
    For something like a hamburger bun shape, a bowl with a flattish bottom should work. Experiment. I use to oil my "baking" dish but found out the steam will help release it. I found no need for special cookware but some silicone bread pans should work.

    Any recommendations for toddlers and the consumption of dairy? If they are consuming fat from other better sources,do they need cow's milk? I appreciate any advice

    • @lesliecurran1704
      @lesliecurran1704 Рік тому

      When you think about it nobody needs milk once they are weaned. That's how all mammals work. So with regard to toddlers no they don't need milk not cow's milk. It's kind of a modern thing to have to have milk for like cereal or whatever. But even like cereal isn't a very good food. It's pretty empty calories. It would seem to me that you could use alternatives like unsweetened almond, oat milk. I have an almond cow I can make my own oat milk, soy milk and almond milk. Almond milk has probably the most calcium.

      Hi Wendy. Hope you're feeling better. We've had success with activated charcoal taken as a detox. Drink extra hot herbal teas when taking the charcoal. Bentonite clay is also helpful as well as raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Applying a poultice directly over your abdomen using cold pressed, organic, hexane free castor oil and applying heat over the poultice is a healer. You can get the details of how to use these remedies on the net. We've also had great results using the 17/7 fast - food free for 17 hours, enjoy food for 7 hours, it's very effective. Take care. A lot of people have done similarly well on a carnivore diet as it is basically an elimination diet. I would not recommend for the long term though. Once your blood sugars, insulin levels etc have stabilised and you are back to your desired weight try adding back plant foods one by one so you know which ones are unhealthy for you. I would choose ones with least known problems first (e.g lectins, oxalates, phytates and any that many have been sprayed with toxins like glyphosate). And also keep sugary, starchy food as low as possible.

    I love Dr. B'S book and advice! Thanks for all the great work you do. I know you support getting a colonoscopy to screen for cancer. I'd like to know your thoughts on the fact that out of every year, 15 million americans get a colonoscopy, but 15,000 of them that undergo the exam die from the colonoscopy test itself.
    This alone makes me not want to go and get one. Even though I am in remission from Ulcerative Colitis, and have been for almost 5 years, from eating a plant based diet, and probably should get things checked out again, as I am turning 47 at the end of this year.

      I think your numbers are off. I cannot find any sources that show the risk is as high as you're saying.

    • @gomezfriesen
      @gomezfriesen Рік тому +1

      @jess7722 yeah, those numbers were the first thing I found. But now that I looked at sources for that number, the sources don't link to anything. So yeah, I can't say they are correct.
      However, even if they are off, there is definitely a lot of harm that can happen. Dr. Michael Gregor has a video on it called, "Should We All Get Colonoscopies Starting at Age 50?"
      But Dr. Gregor is not a Gastroenterologist. I would love to hear what Dr. B has to say about the harm, vs the help, and thr other things we can do to test for colon cancer, like a stool test.

    • @jess7722
      @jess7722 Рік тому +1

      @@gomezfriesen for sure, I'd also be interested in Dr B's opinion on the subject. Anyone I know who's been screened got a stool test rather than a colonoscopy, but it makes sense to me to do something less invasive as a screening tool if someone doesn't have risk factors or symptoms.

      If you read his book he has a chapter on this. And yes there is still a percentage of people with a genetic disposition to growing polyps which can lead to cancer and only picked up during gastroscopy and are then removed eliminating the risk. My husband is one and he's been plantbased 10 years but still gets polyps. His mother died from bowel cancer also. So he goes every five years and has them removed during his endoscopy.

      keep looking, as the figures may reappear later. ... when vaccine researchers and developers said not to use Google as algorithms are too affected, I didnt listen for about 3yrs. I followed the damage the bill and melinda gates foundation were doing with their polio injections, finding tens of thousands links in search results. about three years into following, one day the results were zero negative, all glowing reports on how wonderful they are. I realized the scientists were right and understood how they could say they long tried to get true science to public and unable to due to media blackout. ... I used to find Many published papers on SV40 (simian virus 40), that u.s. government admitted to contaminating over 23,000,000 vaccines with. it is a known cancer virus linked to causing brain cancer/tumours (glioblastomas), mesothelioma, breast cancer, lung cancer and more. ... some days I can only see links discrediting and even saying sv40 was not in those products. The cached page to the CDC announcing it was in those products disappears at times however as the scientists said, keep looking as it does show up eventually.

    Randomly checked our Crunchy Peanut Butter Clif Bars. rolled oats, brown rice syrup, tapioca syrup, rice crisps (soy protein isolate, rice flour, barley malt extract), cane syrup, roasted soybeans, peanut butter, peanuts, peanut flour, chicory fiber, soy flour, natural flavors, salt. I never realized how many added sugars are in them, I guess the Kind Bar commercials aren't throwing Clif under the bus as much as I thought... lol

Tofu Tempa, vegan cheese, all of it I prefer if I’m going eat meat I will eat farm raised from my friends. I’m hoping this will be a fine balance for my stomach as I have always had stomach issues as a young child.

    About the Cliff bars - as far as I am aware, they are in he category of "sports nutrition" not a general nutrition. You don't need to prioritize healhfulness of food above all in context of sports nutrition ( specifically, during workouts) Those are manufactured to be easy to digest and provide fast energy. Then there are energy bars which are easy to pack and convenient while providing energy - ex. suitable for longer hikes.
