Mr.H I am going to send you a Kentucky tee shirt. As a Native and current resident of Kentucky I will be the first one to tell you that you can't wear an Indiana shirt while making something from Kentucky. 😂
@Mrhandfriends I learned this from an old dear family friend in the 80's. She was born and raised in the South! Grill some pork chops (with or without bone albeit ones with the bone does taste better although many people can't distinguish the difference). Bread slices, sliced onions and Mustard! Coat bread slices with mustard, insert pork chop, add layer(s) of sliced onions. Close sandwich and enjoy! LOL Really simple, really easy, REALLY GOOD "Pork Chop Sandwich!!! 😺
Hi Y’all! A Louisville Kentuckian here. As Mrs H said, there are many variations of this sandwich on the net but my absolute favorite is made with white cornbread which is a much different taste than the bread. You just cook the cornbread as usual but use slightly less batter in order for it not to be so thick. Also, Mrs H, I know the exact recipe you followed but, I find that slicing the tomatoes slightly thicker than that used on a burger or sandwich and placed over the top of the bacon and Turkey, then pour your Mornay sauce and Parmesan cheeses over the open face sandwich gives it another level of flavor opposed to on the side covered with cheeses. It’s a shame y’all are going to Florida in April because here in Louisville Kentucky the Kentucky Derby Festival starts as of April 20th with the Largest Fireworks display in the USofA lasting 30 minutes and is set to music but prior to that is the Air Show which starts at 3:00, but there are activities taking place down on the Waterfront starting at 11:00AM. There are Toys, Food Carts, Candy Carts and Food Trucks and Live Music. There are lots of other activities that take place for the two weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby which is May 4th (always first Saturday in May). This year is extra special because it’s Kentucky Derby 150! They’re promising this Festival is going to be the best yet. Y’all stay safe and God Bless. ✝️🙏🏻🇺🇸 🐎 🐎🥰😘
Elana is just the most precious little girl. She loves her daddy and mummy so much. The sandwich looked great. I've heard of the Kentucky Brown but have never had one as I am from Canada and have been living in New York State for the past 16 1/2 years.
Today's star of the show goes to Elana! I laughed through the whole thing, she is so entertaining and her excitement for daddy was so precious. Love that little girl! Never had a Kentucky Brown but it looks really good, I think I would enjoy it.
Mrs H, I'm down right proud of you. You did a wonderful job of pronouncing Louisville. I'm going to reinstate your honorary American citizenship. Put your hand over your heart ❤️ and say "God bless the USA". There ya go, you are now reinstated. 😅
I would butter the bread and toast it in the oven first. Use American Bacon. Slice the tomato not wedges. Assemble buttered toasted bread, turkey breast. ( you did good on the turkey slices ) Mornay sauce that uses Parmesan cheese or Romano. I prefer Parmesan. Good on the nutmeg. Grill the sandwich with the cheese and sliced tomato on the broiler/grill, place bacon on top. You did great on browning. The bacon and tomato goes on top
I live 20 minutes outside of Louisville, Kentucky. My mother always made Hot Browns on the Sunday after Thanksgiving with the leftover turkey and everyone came over again for those. They are SO GOOD!! I make them now and then when I want something cheesy and homey; they really hit the spot❣️
Yes!!! My family did this too. I've gotten creative over the years and whip up some bisquik waffle batter, fold in some leftover stuffing/dressing, then bake. Perfect replacement for the toast.
I was just coming to comment the same thing! Central KY here, and my grandmother ALWAYS made these after Thanksgiving. I think we enjoyed these more than the actual Thanksgiving dinner. LOL
One of these days you guys need to turn the tables, and teach us Bloody Colonials how to do a proper English roast beef and Yorkshire pudding (with gravy!) dinner.
My grandparents were from Kentucky and on Derby Day there were always mint juleps and bourbon for the grown ups, but we never had a hot brown. My grandfather however enjoyed his peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches though, and if my sister and I stayed over sometimes we had to have one too (barf!).
I’m just waiting for all the Kentucky fans to hate on your shirt. lol. As an Indiana fan, I have to say love the shirt!!! Now you need the candy stripped pants to go with it. Go Ho Ho Hoosiers😘. Mrs H - great job as always.
I LOVE your IU shirt!!! (Indiana University) in Bloomington, Indiana!! I live about an hour away from there. If you ever get a chance to go to Bloomington, Indiana let me tell you, you will love it. The people there are awesome!
I was born and raised in Kentucky, first moving away when I was 20 years old, but my whole family still lives there.. It's funny, but I never heard of a Hot Brown until UA-cam came around. From what I have learned, it seems that the Hot Brown was very specific to the Louisville area. I grew up 80 miles away in the northern part of the state. It's funny how it took social media to make me aware of this. I need to try it sometime to live up to my Kentucky heritage.
probably not too far off tbh, in fact i think that the origin story revolves around a guy in KT who had a little too much Bourbon and wanted something special to soak up the excess in his system. (not that that's how it works mind you. lol)
I've lived in KY all of my 62 years and never had one, nor gone to the Derby. Too many people at that race for me. I may have to try making the sandwich, depends on how many "bloody hells" it gets later today.
If you're still close to the area between Cincinnati and Louisville, the best place to get one is the place inside Butler State Park, I've had a lot of travel through the area and that is what I view as the best.
@@scapito That does sound good. I smoke Turkey Breast pretty often so I don't have to wait until thanksgiving. If you ever try smoking it you'll be having it more often, soooo good, and a good price usually since a lot of meat is so expensive now. Thanks for the stir fry idea. Steve
I am born and raised in Louisville, KY and have lived here most of my life. This is very close to perfect. We often have the turkey overlap the triangles on the end. I wanted to say you used the perfect turkey for this. Please don't try this with deli turkey it will not even approach this version of the recipe. Another great video! I love seeing Lana in the video's, she is quite adorable. Keep up the great content!
Hullo! I grew up n Louisville, Kentucky... you have made a great version of the Hot Brown... on Kentucky Derby Day, Hot Browns are made all across Louisville at people's homes (along with BBQ, Mint Juleps (Kentucky Bourbon drink...) - the Brown hotel is a very swanky place... lots of people staying there during Derby Week get there first ever taste of a Hot Brown... you have a splendid channel... love the family friendliness... and I graduated from Indiana University... so very cool to see Mr. H representing with an IU T Shirt! Cheers & God Bless!
I love that you're trying a sandwich from my hometown. I've been to the Brown Hotel a handful of times and had it, but goodness the one you made looks fantastic. I don't know if the Indiana t-shirt was on purpose or not, but Indiana is right across the river from Louisville, so an appropriate apparel choice.
Aww this family is so wholesome 😊.. my dad passed away when I was 3 So my mother was widowed for years and years.. I just want to say.. we all love our mommys Mrs H !!! (And we ALL love you!)However, it was so very heartwarming and precious.. and I'll admit (a little sad for me) that Baby H was soooo excited for daddy to be home❤❤❤ my heart cant take it ugh😢
Native Louisvillian, here. One ingredient your recipe left out is a tomato slice on top. The best Hot Brown I've had was at a restaurant in LaGrange, KY, about 30 miles outside Louisville. It put an extra southern twist on it by adding country ham as well as topping it with a fried green tomato. Delicious!
My daughter graduated from Indiana University! I love your shirt! You all did amazing at making this sandwich! We live in southern Indiana. I have family in Louisville, Kentucky.
Oh ... a Kentucky Derby and state favorite. ❤ They are good with a Mint julep. Ingredients: 1 teaspoon Powdered sugar, 2 oz. Bourbon whiskey, 2 teaspoons Water, 4 Mint leaves
You're totally welcome for that recommendation. As a Louisville native I've been waiting for you to try this one for a while. You worried me a bit thinking you'd forgot that bacon. I'm so glad you like it. It's one of my favorite dishes. I try this at every single restaurant I go to that offers it. I've had it in different cities around Kentucky but the best ones have still been here in Louisville. One day I'd like to try it out of state to see how they do it. As you stated, there are lots of variations and I've had a few, but as long as you have some type of bread, turkey, the cheese sauce, tomatoes, and bacon, it's hard to go wrong. We actually have several pizza places here in town that offer a hot brown specialty pizza. They're really good but not as good as the hot brown itself.
Mrs H great job! That looked so good and tasty. I love how Elana is so eager to participate. I absolutely adore her!! Great T-shirt Mr H!! Is that the one I sent you?? I really enjoy the meals you are preparing! Love the content and BLY ❤
Mr. and Mrs. H, do enjoy your little girl at this age with all the hugs and that. They really do grow up so fast and before you know it they are teenagers as mine are. They are now on the phone all the time. So really stop and take some time to enjoy your little daughter. She is so cute.
Mr. H could never deny Elana...she looks like his Mini Me! P.S. If you are making a Kentucky sandwich we gotta get you guys UK basketball shirts...not our rival IU!!!
I live in Kentucky and we regularly have a Hot Brown. I was really confused by the triangle pieces of bread and tomato wedges. I’ve always seen and made it with the tomato as slices on top the turkey, under the sauce.
@@Mrhandfriends no. I've had a hot brown before at a casino buffet nearby. Was not a fan. Lol. I did like the look of Mrs H's though. It looked much better than the one I had
That looks delicious! Love watching you all try different dishes. And Elana is a treat. Seeing her get so excited and wanting to help. Growing up quickly!
This looked delicious!! Don't be so hard on yourself Mrs. H - you would never have known there was unevenly cut bread under all that yummy cheese sauce lol. You have progressed so much as a cook - it's been a joy to watch. You have such a lovely family and Alana is beyond adorable!! Take care from New York State!
First, as a Louisville native, love that you’re making a hot brown! I’ve never had one at the Brown hotel, but a lot of restaurants in the city have their own version on the menu and it’s always good. Second, you almost sounded like a native when you said Louisville! We usually say Loo-vuhl or Loo-uh-vuhl, depending on how thick our accents are, and you were spot on! It doesn’t bother me when people pronounce our city name “wrong,” like it does some folks, but color me impressed! Also, there’s nothing better than growing up as a little girl and knowing your daddy is always so happy to come home to you. Your little girl is so blessed to have a mum and dad who so obviously enjoy spending time with her.
From the U.S, - I have to extend two big thumbs up and say how refreshing it is to see such a nicely behaved, well adjusted and cute as a button precious little girl you have there. She is plainly raised in a loving and positive environment and it reflects so much on what great parents you are. Here im ashamed to say were now seeing a disturbing number of hateful spiteful spoiled entitled and disturbed children that are never raised with love, responsibility and accountability, instead they dont learn the importance of laws & realities of life outside of their little self important bubbles so they turn into even worse self important entitled clueless badly adjusted excuses for adults who think the world owes them a living and societies laws dont apply to them. Because of schools being turned into indoctrination centers for a certain political party along with negative social and media influences ie: bad teaching, violent video games, internet garbage sites and horrendously bad parenting often by parents or parent who never grew up themselves or in some cases no parents at all our old school traditional family structures have eroded very badly and its showing in poorly educated socially maladjusted children who often ruin their lives and futures before the age of 20. So all this being said, its a breath of fresh air to again see such good parents and such a happy well adjusted child, to this I say well done to you guys and I wish we had more of your kind of family here in the U.S. - dont get me wrong not all parents and children are as I described, but poorly raised maladjusted entitlement minded kids families etc. are fast becoming the norm rather than the exception and this does n,ot bode well for our countries future. Love your vids, im 64 born and grew up in the U.S. with good quality parental guidance and im SO glad I was fortunate to do so. I love my country but hate the people running it - so where ever you live and whatever youre doing its a first class blueprint for a healthy family structure so KEEP DOING IT-! hopefully it will catch on more over here-!! LOL
Mrs. H I am a native of Kentucky and have had the hot brown at The Brown Hotel in Louisville where it originated from. You did a fine job but, it is supposed to have bacon and tomato on top. Also, You look gorgeous all of the time and I love Little Miss H's more rating system. 😂
As an worldwide sandwich connisure, think about this as the American version of Welsh Rarebit. It is an open face sandwich made with local ingredients.
That looks like something the hubs and I would enjoy! I wonder how he'd appreciate making a mornay sauce? I need to make him watch you tasting these things to get him truly interested and tempted! As always, your daughter is so adorable and fun. I love the little look she shot up to Mrs H as she was taking a bite from her plate. She looks so much like her mama. :)
I knew Elana was going to be adorable but she is adorable to the max and beyond my expectations! I'm sure she can be a handful, but she is so absolutely sweet and so so smart! I love you all! You are my favorite family on UA-cam!
Garlic toast steak sandwiches: 4-6 slices 1cm thick french or italian bread slices (if no texas toast bread) 1lb of finely sliced beef of your choice (ribeye, top sirloin, etc. skirt or flank might work too) 4-6 deli thin slices of provelone cheese 4-6 deli thin slices mozzerella (or shredded) ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon black pepper ½ teaspoon paprika ½ teaspoon chili powder ½ teaspoon onion powder ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon dried thyme ½ teaspoon dried marjoram ½ teaspoon dried basil 1tblspn veg oil (or as needed) 1/2 sliced red & green bell pepper 1/2 sliced onion butter garlic powder take the bread, butter one side with butter and sprinkle with garlic powder or make your own garlic powder mixture. mix seasonings together then add to meat and coat. use veg oil in skillet and fry up the meat. when meat 2/3'ds done add veggies till desired but try not to over cook the meat. preheat oven to 375F. take prepared bread and bake bread till just crispy and butter is melted. remove from oven. take meat and veggies and cover 1/2 of the bread slices then add provolone and mozzarella. place other unused slice of bread and set on meat and veg half to make a sandwhich. place sandwiches back into oven for a few minutes longer to melt the cheese. serve immediately but may be a wee bit hot.

Pretty soon Elana is going to making these videos on her own!😍 Steals the show every time lately! 👍
My daughter graduated from Indiana University! I love your shirt! You all did amazing at making this sandwich! We live in southern Indiana. I have family in Louisville, Kentucky.
Go Hoosiers!
You're so cute. Mrs. H and Elana are okay too. lol. Cheers.
Elana's talking is getting more adorable ❤😊!

Well, Elana is clearly happy that Mr. H is home
My Father said "once you have kids, a bit is not your own". Cherish it now they grow up so fast.
My husband likes open face sandwiches. I should make this for him
Oh ... a Kentucky Derby and state favorite. ❤ They are good with a Mint julep.
Ingredients: 1 teaspoon Powdered sugar, 2 oz. Bourbon whiskey, 2 teaspoons Water, 4 Mint leaves
Hahaha oh my goodness seeing how excited elana was to see mr H was so adorable. Ive never tried this one it looks amazing tho great job mrs H
My daddy. She is a sweet baby doll 💞 time has gone so fast and Elana is growing quickly.
Bloody love our H’s 💜❤️
Miss Elana is cuteness overload. So adorable. Mr H with his Indiana Hoosiers tshirt! Never had the hot brown but it sure looked good.
Alana loves her Daddy. 🥰 What a precious little girl. My family was a Threesome. I miss my parents. 💞
Elana is a super star😊 what a boss
I'm glad to hear the Little Texan saying what is on her mind.🍴
Mr. H I really liked your shirt
I love a good open faced sandwich, roast beef being the best.
Mrs H great job! That looked so good and tasty. I love how Elana is so eager to participate. I absolutely adore her!! Great T-shirt Mr H!! Is that the one I sent you?? I really enjoy the meals you are preparing! Love the content and BLY ❤
Yes that's the one you sent Florencia. BLY ❤️
Mr. and Mrs. H, do enjoy your little girl at this age with all the hugs and that. They really do grow up so fast and before you know it they are teenagers as mine are. They are now on the phone all the time. So really stop and take some time to enjoy your little daughter. She is so cute.
I 💗 Alana.🥰😃
Mr. H could never deny Elana...she looks like his Mini Me!
P.S. If you are making a Kentucky sandwich we gotta get you guys UK basketball shirts...not our rival IU!!!
Thank you for sharing your family with us. You bring me back to those wonderful years when my kids were little.❤🎉🎊🎆👍🙏❤️
Yay!!!! Hot browns are always the best using leftovers from Thanksgiving. 😊
I love this sandwich, famous and delicious!
Well you have cooked bacon as it should be done. Well done Mrs H.
I think Baby H loves her Daddy! Good girl!
I live in Kentucky and we regularly have a Hot Brown. I was really confused by the triangle pieces of bread and tomato wedges. I’ve always seen and made it with the tomato as slices on top the turkey, under the sauce.
I love a short drive from the Brown hotel in Louisville Kentucky
*live
Live/love they both sound good. Have you been there for a Hot Brown?
@@Mrhandfriends no. I've had a hot brown before at a casino buffet nearby. Was not a fan. Lol. I did like the look of Mrs H's though. It looked much better than the one I had
Hello from Louisville - great channel - enjoy y’all daily.
How cute is this video! All of your videos are, but this one was so delightful too,
Oh my gosh, Elana just melts my heart! She was so happy to see her Daddy.
Little miss Elana was the star today. Will have to give the sandwich a try.
Elana is so damn adorable. 😄
Are deviled eggs a thing in the UK? It’s my absolute favorite! I’d like to see them tried here if you never had them before.
Yesssss...I love the Hot Brown...so delicious!
open face sammies are awesome
That looks delicious! Love watching you all try different dishes. And Elana is a treat. Seeing her get so excited and wanting to help. Growing up quickly!
This looked delicious!! Don't be so hard on yourself Mrs. H - you would never have known there was unevenly cut bread under all that yummy cheese sauce lol. You have progressed so much as a cook - it's been a joy to watch. You have such a lovely family and Alana is beyond adorable!! Take care from New York State!
ive seen this in compilations but never made it myself. might have to give it a shot.
LOL
Elana is just the cutest, melts my heart every time. As always H's, looks delicious, Thank you for sharing, Great Video!!!
Coming from the Nutmeg State of Connecticut, I’m glad to see you used the nutmeg.
Your daughter is just too adorable! The Hot Brown is a favorite and you made it mostly like I do.
Nice job. It looked really good.
Love Cooking with H! The H's are cooking their way thru America one dish at a time!
Mrs. H I am a native of Kentucky and have had the hot brown at The Brown Hotel in Louisville where it originated from. You did a fine job but, it is supposed to have bacon and tomato on top. Also, You look gorgeous all of the time and I love Little Miss H's more rating system. 😂
I'll make it again correctly as I did like this one.
She just gets more and more adorable every darn day! As far the Hot Brown goes - Lordy, lordy I wish I was there!! That looked soooooooo yummmm.
I'm curious. I have never heard of this before. See you there.
As an worldwide sandwich connisure, think about this as the American version of Welsh Rarebit. It is an open face sandwich made with local ingredients.
I've lived in Ky my whole life (47 years) My family insists on me to make hot brown casserole once every month or so . 😂
You're so lucky.
She has her moments but on the whole she is really good. BLY ❤️
