Mike Tyson Squats

  • Mike Tyson came back to boxing from his three year stint in a correctional facility bigger and broader. Along with T-shirt popping biceps, and shoulders that could take out door jams, Tysons upper legs filled out his trademark black trunks like never before. To develop these tree trunks, it is said that Tyson's leg workout during his time behind bars was the following:
Start with ten cards and line them up 2-4 inches apart. Sqaut and pick up the first card, then move to the next card and place the first card on top of the second card. After which, you squat twice more to pick up each card individually, before moving to the third card. Walk to the third card and squat twice to stack each card, then squat three times to pick up each card before carrying the cards to the fourth card, and proceeding with the pattern You will continue this pattern o individually stacking and picking up the cards until you move through all ten cards in the line At that point, you will have completed 100 squats. You can add cards as your strength and endurance increase!

This is good drill. I used to teach a version of it to my martial arts students.
We did it with poker chips instead of cards because they were much easier to pick up. We did it up to 10 chips.
We also did it with running suicide drills. We set the chips in a line about 10 feet apart and ran the drills as a race.

I’m 64 and have had thirty three surgeries from duty related injuries. I do these with a 50 pound weighted vest but I don’t use cards because I can count to one hundred. I also go extremely slow doing resistance squatting which is even harder. I’m surprised Tyson didn’t do these with someone on his back. Tyson is and always will be a beast.

its because that way he is able to round his back and thats why people do bodyweight squats, allows your spine to be able to go into more vulnerable positions making it stronger and allowing you to be able to not worry about your back when doing them and just focus on training

@@cix9420I think the primary reason people do bodyweight squats is to train their legs😉 But yeah, you probably have a point with what you wrote as well.

    Asking for Frank Bruno.

    • @latockistrong3870
      @latockistrong3870  Рік тому

Good question! The cards do a couple things. For one, it just makes the exercise more interesting rather than just doing bodyweight squats which can be pretty boring at a high number. Two, it requires you to get your butt down low in order to reach the card alleviating any cheating. Third, as you get physically tired trying to pick up the cards it becomes increasingly difficult which requires you to remain in that low position for a longer period of time putting you under tension for longer which is great for muscle gain. Hope that makes sense, good question💪

I would also probably introduce some mid-rep pauses for 3 seconds to make it a little more difficult. That's awesome though man!

Isn't it just easier to count and make 100 squats?
    .
    .
    .
Oh wait.. Indeed, it is not. If some can't count to 10 (there are 9 cards), it's way to much to expect to count to 100.
No wonder this method was "invented" in jail 🤣

An odd comment... I noticed that in exercise videos and shorts... Males always wear lose and modest attire... Women wear revealing and tight ly fit clothing... I guess women have the need to display their sexuality in order to feel "liberated and empowered"🤣🤣🤣

To be fair the snug fitting lycra is actually more comfortable than loose clothing. Some blokes do wear it but I think for many the thought of having their bits on display puts them off. That and the bashing you get from other males.
Don't try and put women down just to excuse your fear of trying something new or because you can't be bothered to wonder about reasonings. Really petty.

Lmaooo so fkin unnecessary. Basically do regular body weight squats. Adding the cards does nothing. Do pause reps and it's the same thing 🤦🏾‍♂️ 🤦🏾‍♂️

Each card adds like 2 maybe 3 grams. By the time you get to 10 cards you've lifted a huge extra weight 😉
