Stevie said he wasn’t very good in English class at school and that he couldn’t express himself well on paper. He said, “The only way I have to express myself is through my guitar.” Music flowed through him like an endless spring of sounds and emotion. I never saw him get stuck, lost, dead-end, run out of ideas, never, even though he was flying in the moment, head over heels furiously, with no idea what came next. It was almost like a religious experience. It made you believe that there must be a God, because no man could play like that without some kind of divine inspiration, and so you felt the presence of God. Thank you, Stevie.

I totally agree. When Stevie played live you can just tell he never played to a script. He closed his eyes to his surroundings and I honestly think he wasn't,t consciously aware of what he was playing it was coming from God knows where. Another great guitarist once finished a recording session and when it was played back to him it was jawdroppin playing but he was perplexed because it was not what he thought he had played. Stevie is the same

Speaking of B.B. King, when Stevie was killed, B.B. stated that he felt like he lost his son. Many of the great legends in blues were devastated after hearing what happened to Stevie. The great Buddy Guy even wrote and dedicated a song to Stevie. That's how much Stevie was loved.....

A lot of people can feel this music in their heart and soul, but being able to express it through an instrument is incredibly difficult. I play the guitar, and Stevie said “you feel it first and then you learn how to do it” I’ve been feeling it, but I will never get close to Stevie’s level even if I were to practice 24/7 for the rest of my life

Stevie Ray Vaughan was something else...and I’m not talking about that he was out of this world talented and the most passionate guitarist ever...no...it was that every time he played for us he opened up his heart and soul for us to see and enjoy...
I grew up as a kid to Stevie and his music and I was devastated when he one day was suddenly gone...
When I watch all those performances from him nowadays tears comes out of my eyes every time...it’s that soul of him...it affects me so strong...I don’t know what is..he was special...very special...I’m glad to see you young people discover him the same way we did back then...he was truly amazing...every time...enjoy! RIP STEVIE ❤️💐

If you gave me One Concert to have seen in my life, this would be it- far above all others. Even Floyd. This wasn't a concert, this was an experience of legendary greatness... & he let us come along for the ride. This song, which is his signature; his epic cover of Hendrix' Little Wing (using one of Hendrix' wah-wah pedals [which his brother got for him, to use when covering a song by Jimi...for authenticity's sake]), the song Lenny, which he wrote for his wife. If you watch his 'In Session' video, you see him play with his mentor: Albert King. You immediately see the major influence Mr. King had upon him when they trade-off, playing mostly 'Texas Flood' licks & bars. To see SRV play is to see Albert King play; and the more you watch & learn of SRV's material, the more you notice him working licks, riffs, hooks from 'Texas Flood' into just about every performance. It's a main foundational element. Not that he couldn't play anything he wanted, & a lot that others couldn't... in a way that nobody could.

I was born and raised in Austin TX, 1958. Turned 18yo in 1976. Was blessed to see SRV, The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Jimmy Vaughn) and many of the Blues Greats who were mainly then living in Chicago. Clifford Antone (Antone’s Club) first convinced Albert Collins (I believe) to come down to Texas and play. The rest followed. It was a great place to grow up and see the greatest blues guitarist of all time, which means SRV. His Strat, number one, was given to him by Mr. Ray Henning of Heart of Texas Music on South Lamar. It is a Frankenstrat of several vintage body parts traded in to Mr. Henning by Christopher Cross. I bought my first Strat from Mr. Henning himself. Sadly, Austin has grown huge and most all of the iconic shops and venues no longer exist. I’m super glad that so many young people, after all these years, are discovering SRV, the GOAT, hands down. Quote, “seeing SRV will make everyone want to be a beginner guitarist, and make every experienced guitarist want to quit.” Eric Clapton 😊

They *never* had a set list (except w/Jeff Beck, bcse one was demanded)-and none of what Stevie did onstage was developed offstage. ❤ he was engaged to Janna, and they were going to have kids-then the crash. I know there's many different genres and styles concerning how folks play guitar but in my opinion SRV is the all around greatest guitarist to ever take the stage!! He never misses a note and even if he did you'd never know it because he's so good that he could cover it up with the next string he hits!! Only 35 years old when he died and he had just gotten clean and put down all the drugs and alcohol. I had tickets to see him but the helicopter crashed about a month before the concert. He was my guitar idol and I was devastated when I saw the news come across MTV.

I was there that fatal night in Alpine Valley, WI. The ticket was Robert Cray, Stevie Ray & Eric Clapton. Stevie's brother Jimmy (Fabulous Thunderbirds) sat in on his set and Buddy Guy joined Eric. For the encore, all 5 came out and jammed for another hour. The show ended after midnight. The last song Stevie ever played on stage was Sweet Home Chicago.

Stevie Ray Vaughan started playing guitar at the age of 7 but his career only span 7 years, in that time his album Texas Flood was released in 1983 he is in The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, Blues Hall Of Fame, he won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards ,Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and in 2015 The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, he was nominated for 51 Awards and won 21 in a 7 year span. The guitar he is playing used to belong to another musician named Christopher Cross and he bought it beat up like that from Ray Henny who owned a guitar shop said Stevie Ray although had alot of money at the time didn't like to spend it. Stevie Ray could also play behind his head, broken string, switched guitar in the middle of a solo without missing a beat, one handed, his teeth, he would pick his guitar, play no handed just by moving the guitar up and down and even used his elbow in Little Wing. Chris Layton Stevie Ray's drum player and Tommy Shannon basses said Stevie Ray had a really good ear and would adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed and tune his guitar while playing. The amazing thing was Stevie Ray never learned to read music and never used a play list because he didn't know what he was going to play or do until he was on stage. Stevie Ray said he played from the heart and he played without looking at his guitar, he always had his eyes closed or looked at the the people he was playing for. Stevie Ray was amazing and did so much in a short time, when we lost Stevie Ray August 27th 1990 at the young age of 35 we lost a legend and a beautiful loving soul, it was a sad day for many of us and all the Blues legends who loved and respected him especially Albert King who was Stevie Ray's godfather. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT sorry I always get carried away talking about Stevie Ray Vaughan.

That was nice. The one thing I might point out is that Stevie never had any money until maybe the last couple of years of his life. He grew up in little houses in a working class family, played guitar all day every day, was hopelessly disorganized, and when he finally started making a little money, he’d give it away. When that door opened for him, he wanted to bring everyone along with him.

@@lathedauphinot6820 you're absolutely right, he has such a big heart and knowing about his childhood growing up with an alcoholic father who beat Stevie Ray told by his brother Jimmy Vaughan. That story really touched me because I was raised by a mother who hated me and told me she didn't want me like Stevie Ray I turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of my childhood and like Stevie Ray I turned my life around. Stevie Ray inspired me because after all that he never let his childhood make himself bitter or hateful. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE A GOAT TO ME.

The guitar is a 1959 stratocaster. SRV called it "Number 1". He uses really heavy guage strings because of all the bending he does, keeps them from breaking. AND they still break.

Most guitar players know (even those of us that don't read music like Stevie, and most others) Once that band has the groove going, there are nights your fingers can do amazing things. Probably the best guitar player of the past 80 years, Stevie will be missed. His Bassist, (Tommy Shannon) said in his book, this was His "Best taped performance" of his career. The only bad thing is this is at the height of his drug and alcohol problems and SRV was in a "Cocaine induced coma" an hour before this show and was roused by medical personnel with IV fluids and vitamins (hence the extra notes and sweat) to prepare him for the stage.

I too was lucky enough to see SRV twice in concert. The first one is on UA-cam SRV @The Palace in 1983. It's really cool being able to go back and watch that entire show. The 2nd time was @ The Greek Theatre on 8/27/89. He was the best showman in the music business, hands down. He was down to earth and a genuine, kind human being. Imagine the music we missed............

His guitar is what it looks like after it's become humanized while simultaneously transcending.

Stevie was the greatest ever - RIP keep watching his stuff he literally NEVER let's you down! Check out "Mary Had a Little Lamb" Live from Austin as a good follow-up with a different vibe but absolutely amazing as he is in every vid you will ever see of him. The Blues is the foundation for all music - it is great to see it getting revived on reaction vids - thanks to you both!

Stevie was higher than a kite with extra string when they did this show and it seemed to put him in zone. This is regarded as the best show they ever did, and I have to agree %110.
