The tiny white man from Dallas, Texas had the respect from all the black blues guitarists in his lifetime. He learned from the best by listening to them. Jimy Hendrix was his idol. A humanitarian at heart! SRV aka The GOAT!!!
I always love how people who react to this performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan get really excited and are so impressed so early into the song and act like they'd already seen the greatest that could be seen ... when they have no idea of how as the song goes on Stevie Ray keeps doing more and more and more until it's unimaginable the way he plays and sings. Early on when reactors are so into it I keep thinking .... you ain't seen nothing yet.
It doesn’t get mentioned often, but Stevie’s talent was matched by true humility, kindness, and how he lived his life by the Golden Rule. Treating others fairly such as splitting his earnings evenly with his band members is just one example. Legend.
Facts. Tommy Shannon his bassist was his best friend. He lived Stevie as a musician but he wanted people to know what a humble generous soul he was and how many people he helped to sobriety.
Greg, SRV's soundcheck proves how great of a blues guitarist he is. He literally rolled out of bed, threw on a pimp coat and hat, walked onto the stage picking his nose, and shreds better than most guitarists do in studio or live. For a soundcheck! Nobody was supposed to hear it, but a roadie or somebody happened to catch it on film. Edit: Not only was B.B.King an inspiration for SRV, they have played together on stage. SRV has also performed with Jeff Healy, Johnny Copeland, and Albert King to name a few. He is on a very short list of greatest guitarists of all time.
You are a youngster. SRV died 32 years ago when I was a young man like you. Truly a talent that will span the ages. Glad you discovered him and his music.
Stevie Ray Vaughan has an older brother named Jimmy Vaughan who has a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray always said his brother was the biggest influence in his life and then all the Blues greats like B.B King, Buddy Guy, and of course his godfather Albert King. He also played behind his head, broken string, switched guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, one hand, no hands by moving the guitar up and down, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, his elbow and could play behind his back longer than anyone past or present. His career only span 7 years, his album Texas Flood came out in 1983 and he is in The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, Blues Hall Of Fame, he won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards ,Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame until August 27th 1990 when he was killed in a helicopter crash in Troy Wisconsin at the age of 35. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN IS THE ABSOLUTE GOAT. RIP TO A LEGEND.
He has played with BB king. And Eric Clapton. And Johnny Copeland. And so many more. And every. Single. One of them. Everyone. They all say that he absolutely blew them out of the water. Eric fucking Clapton said he almost couldn't walk out on stage to perform after him, because he made him feel inadequate. BB said this about him, once. " I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray missed on both counts, but I've never noticed." He was the most humble, talented, and amazing live musician ever. Ever. Didn't even know how to read music. Taught himself, mostly, was a grade school drop out, and was horribly abused by his father. Stevie Ray was taken from us, far too soon, when he was just getting to his prime. Why? Cause God wanted guitar lessons, I guess.
Back in the early 70s I was visiting a friend in Austin, Texas and this friend took me to a somewhat rundown bar. You know, the kind with peanut shells on the floor and smoke in the air. There was a blues band playing. They were pretty good and we were enjoying the music and having a few drinks when a guy sauntered in and sat at the table next to us. As soon as the band finished the song they had been playing the lead spotted the guy next to us and said, "Hey Stevie why don't you come on up and jam a little with us?" That's when I knew I was in the presence of the greatest blues guitarist in the world. I wept when I learned of his tragic death (stupid helicopter). The world will never know another like him. RIP SRV
BB King 👑, Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland, Hendrix, and many more can be heard in Stevies guitar 🎸. He didn't play it with his fingers, he played it with his soul. Watch "life without you" live, or voodoo Chil live , little wing live.- SRV WAS THE GOAT.
"Look at Little Sister", "Superstiton", "Tin Pan Alley", "Tightrope", anything from album 'Couldn't Stand the Weather' ..he had been given a gift..I was blessed to see him in concert several times...always amazing...my sons middle name is Stevie Ray and yes named after him so his initials would be CSRV...however my son ended up liking drums...also check out SRV's brother...Jimmie Vaughn
SRV didn't play the guitar, he possessed it! He was mostly self taught and he couldn't read music. He never played a song the same way twice, so when the commenters suggest a particular video, it's usually because many consider it the better performance. Always watch SRV live if possible, every song of his fire.
BBKing and Albert King were some of his mentors and he idolized Jimmy Hendrix. He played with all the great blues artists of his era and alot of rockers as well. Eric Clapton said when they were on the festival's tours he said no one ever wanted ro follow him because who could.
"Life Without You" performance at the Capitol Theater in NJ September 1985. Really shows who he was as a person as well as a preformer. I hope this comment doesn't get lost, this version should be shared more 💜
The man is self-taught and couldn't read music. Because of that, each time a song was played, it was never played exactly the same way twice. The man had a natural born talent and is the GOAT...greatest of all time.
Must here “Little Wing”….your life will be changed! To really blow your mind, listen to BB King & SRV play “Blues at Sunrise.” You will want more…. I’m 58, recently lost my 36 yro son. He loved A Perfect Circle and the lead, Maynard. He would listen when I played SRV…loved him as much as I ❤️🩹
Check out Rivera Paradise for a SRV classic. Stevie Ray was a talent from the almighty, looked up to by many a yourg guitarist. He played the blues, period. Efforts were made by promoters to link him to rock & roll, he never compromised just to sell tickets, merch, or cd's. He's back up by only dums and bass - what a sound - takes me back to the good old days.
Albert King was just one of his mentors and may he rest in peace this man was one of the best blues guitar men ever born. I've never watched anything he did that didn't blow me away.
SRV is one of the best guitarist ever, right up there with BB King. I could listen to him all day long. The world grew a little dimmer on the day he passed. Please continue with anything live, from him as well as Nightwish...the first draw to your channel.
SRV was a completely different animal to any other guitarist and BB King was the definition of simple but emotional played very few notes but all had feel and meaning
There are several videos clips out there of him playing with BB King. You can see how much he respects the legend...and how much the legend respected him back!
I am sooooo happy you jumped in the SRV rabbit hole!!!! I couldn’t wait for your expression when he put the guitar behind his back 😂 There are so many amazing videos. I love them all!!! Every suggestion is worth checking out. I personally love love love Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater. But whichever one you do next will be great!!!!!
I read an article in guitar player magazine on an interview they had with SRV........they asked, "you work so much interesting modes and inside jazz chording into your blues......how did you come about doing that?"...........and Stevie's answer was, "I don't know nothing about any of that stuff" - BAM!..........its in his DNA.......Clapton knew...............BB knew.............you can't be taught that.......
It is always great to see a person "discover" Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first time and you couldn't have picked a better song to do it with. You have now fallen down the SRV rabbit hole. Welcome to the "club"!
Jimi Hendrix was a huge influence on SRV. SRV even covered a couple of Jimi's songs, 'Voodoo Child', and 'Little Wing'. Little Wing is my favorite SRV song. He made it his own.
john b ohhh yes ! Two Blues Birds in Heaven... Holy Smokes ! a Megapinte of gorgeous Red Wine for those Two Bad Asses Stay All Safe Keep All on the Good Vibes ! a french in France once a Woodstock 69 Bad Teen Ager
Great reaction to the GOAT, brother. 'Dirty Pool' has always been my favorite, but everything he does 🔥. Watch the entire 'El Mocambo' concert one day. It change a lot of people lives. Inspired many to pick up a guitar and listen to blues! Gary Clark, Jr, Eric Gales, Albert Collins, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, Gary Moore, Joe bonamassa... Enjoy the journey brother!
I don't understand why there aren't more Gary Clark Jr reactions. Especially "This Land". I feel like that's a song/video that everyone should see in their lifetime
You have found one of the top 3 blues guitarists ever in my opinion. SRV is from Dallas. He died in a helicopter crash in 1990. Please do his cover of Jimi Hendrix " Voodoo Chile" 🔥 Great reaction bruh. RIP SRV
I would love to watch you go down the SRV rabbit hole. You will NEVER be disappointed. He passed away in 1990 in a helicopter crash after doing a show in Wisconsin. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Saw him twice in New orleans. Once with BB King. ONe of my fondest memories. Keep it going! The Cat in the Hat with a Strat!!
He was considered Texas Blues. Something that was fading since Johnny Winter. He was instrumental in it's comeback. Even greats like Eric Clapton took notice. In an interview, Eric said that he had to pull over to the side of the road to listen to Stevie when he came on the radio for the first time. David Bowie asked him to tour with him. He played guitar for Bowie on the song "Let's Dance". GOAT...
GOAT! There's a reason all of the great blues artists of the day wanted to collaborate with him. He, BB King and Albert King played together a few times.
Watch - Stevie Ray Vaughan soundcheck ... off the chain. I seen him live once and I was never the same ... He was and will always be the greatest guitarists in history
Bro you would have just made his day if you told him that he sounded like B.B. King! Of course the humble man he was he would have told you that there's only B.B. King. He respected all the bluesmen that came before him. Check out his Jimi Hendrix covers. Voo door child and little wing! He loved Jimi too
God sent us Stevie Ray and we sent him back way too soon. If listened to this video a thousand times and each time it gets better. Come back home Stevie Ray. RIP.
Great first reaction👏🙌💯‼️my favorite artist of all time🎸🎶‼️💙. That guitar was an appendage of his body. The first 30 seconds of my first time watching him I was struck by the intense intimacy of his relationship with his 🎸. We have been missing him intensely since 1990 when God brought him back home but his legacy, love, music, and inspiration still goes on stronger every year. Reactors like yourself discover him and turn him onto other people. Always do live performances, watching him totally immersed in the musical moment is where a lot of magic lies🌟✨⭐️. First time landing on your channel cuz I saw his name. *Note: his last name is spelled Vaughan. I will be back for more cuz I have no doubt you will start down this amazing rabbit hole✌️💙
Look for the SRV and Albert King sessions - two great masters going at it. One thing I love about him is that he uses the whole guitar - from low to high registers, chords, single notes, slow, fast - everything.
You “He giving that guitar hell” that was his style. He said “I don’t play with a lot of finesse, I play like I’m breaking out of jail” great reaction vid ✌️
Best blues guitar performance ever recorded - IMO Youve got a LOT more SRV ahead of you and I envy you the joy of first time discovery as you take the journey. He also played with the blues legends, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, many others as well like Eric Clapton etc. its a very long list - if you go back and listen to BB King (I) think Stevies playing is way better, partly because BB King said this of himself compared to SRV -- "I play in sentences, Stevie plays in paragraphs"--lol I saw Stevie play live twice back in the day, I still have the ticket stubs and ill never forget it, Stevie did things with his guitar no other blues player had done -- but Stevie ALWAYS showed mad respect to all the blues legends that came before him and he never tried to upstage them when they played together. RIP SRV
Stevie Ray was a favorite of my sisters and I. My oldest daughter could sing pride and joy when she was six. One of the greatest musicians to come out of Texas, and there have been quite a few.. RIP Stevie Ray
The tiny white man from Dallas, Texas had the respect from all the black blues guitarists in his lifetime. He learned from the best by listening to them. Jimy Hendrix was his idol. A humanitarian at heart! SRV aka The GOAT!!!
It was once said by the great bb king Stevie was the best he's ever seen. Rip bb
B.B.King said he was the best blues guitarist he'd EVER heard or seen. Fine praise indeed!

SRV was and will always be The GOAT. He’s the most beloved guitarist and singer. He’s missed very much.
It doesn’t get mentioned often, but Stevie’s talent was matched by true humility, kindness, and how he lived his life by the Golden Rule. Treating others fairly such as splitting his earnings evenly with his band members is just one example. Legend.
👏🏽👏🏽true talk my man. We lost 1if kind talent , 1if a kind soul
An amazing talent.

Taken from this earthly plane way to soon. He still had a lot to give. A true legend.
Facts. Tommy Shannon his bassist was his best friend. He lived Stevie as a musician but he wanted people to know what a humble generous soul he was and how many people he helped to sobriety.
Stevie is one "Bad Man" right! One of the greatest to ever do it, and with so much passion. He would make his guitar speak to us, literally.
Albert King and B.B King were respected mentors of Stevie and he performed quite a few times with them and other greats :)
Albert King and Jimmy Hendrix.
Truth.
He also played with Jeff Healey.
GOD WAS SHOWING OFF WHEN HE MADE STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN.. ANYTHING LIVE ANYTHING!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
Soo true!
So well put!!
if you could play guitar like stevie would you not show off
Thank ya'll for the kind word's you said bout my brother. Kiya Lynn Vaughan Stevie's Little Sister.

Greatest guitar player that ever lived! RIP SRV
People get enamored by his guitar slinging ability and tend to overlook the fact that he had a "Killer" voice for the blues/blues rock.....
His voice is unmistakable...and unique....as a guitar guy....come on
He had a great voice, but his playing is the reason we are enamored. Listen to Riviera Paradise. It will change your life.
No. LOL People DON'T overlook that. Everyone I've seen is in awe of his singing. Mouths drop open when he starts singing.
Stevie Ray Vaughn -The Sky is crying, is another awesome song!
You are a youngster. SRV died 32 years ago when I was a young man like you. Truly a talent that will span the ages. Glad you discovered him and his music.
Nobody ever played guitar like SRV, and no one will ever again. And yes, B.B. King was one of his inspirations.
R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughn..🙏❤❤❤
“I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed.” - B. B. King
Pride and joy is a great 1. Couldn't stand the weather is unbelievable.
He was the guitar and the guitar was him. RIP SRV.
Tin Pan Alley is a favorite. Albert King and SRV had great affection for each other, he was a godfather to him.

Love this artist he's the greatest ever...you have to listen to "pride and joy" and "crossfire" actually anything by himself great.

B.B. King was definitely one of his influences, good ear man
Pride and joy is an all time classic
SRV played everything by ear. He couldn't read music. Astounding.

RIP SRV
Its called Texas Blues. ❤❤❤❤MY STEVIE ❤️ ♥️ ❤❤.
That was a great reaction - thanks. What Stevie did to a guitar was illegal in all 50 states!
“Pride and Joy” and “Crossfire”.
Stevie Ray was a favorite of my sisters and I. My oldest daughter could sing pride and joy when she was six. One of the greatest musicians to come out of Texas, and there have been quite a few.. RIP Stevie Ray
