SRV - 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats Stevie was killed in a helicopter crash August 27th, 1990. He is widely considered one of the greatest of all time. In fact, Rolling Stone magazine said if Jimi was king, then Stevie is the only true heir to the throne. Also, Stevie was as humble and kind as he was a badass on the guitar. He was loved and adored by all of his elder blues heroes...BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, and on and on and on. He kicked drugs and alcohol in late 1986 and was clean until his death. He was a gift from the heavens and is sorely missed by his fan base. Do yourselves a HUGE favor: **Texas Flood at El Macambo** **Life Without You at Capitol Theater ** **Tightrope at Austin City Limits 1989** **Mary Had a Little Lamb at Austin City Limits 1989**
That's so sad. A very tragic way to die. He sounds like he was a great man and true music legend. Wow what a great life story he has conquering demons. My father who I just discovered on ancestry is from Kentucky and a true fan of BB King so thats amazing!! I'm learning so much about life. Thanks so much! Great information and history!! Well check those out!!
He was insane. Playing that guitar that is basically setup like an acoustic. Using his wah pedal, Massive thick strings, high action. He had to superglue his fingertips many times. He was also Albert Kings godson. RIP Stevie. Your music lives on.

The most sincere tribute to the originator, Jimi Hendrix, so far ahead of his time-the power and fury of the original is worth checking-Jimi is the source-an American original-so much soul
the ONLY Hendrix song I like the cover better. I think Jimi would too. after all , Jimi's favorite guitarist was another texan, Billy Gibbons. Wrongway Feldman is how ya caught me eye lol.
@@bugvswindshield Yes. Steve Ray was a little jazzier and more precise than Jimi. That's why I like him better on songs like Voodoo child and Little wing. But Hendrix could be great live sometimes. Perhaps not well known, but he also liked a lot to play with other musicians. He always asked for "Hansson & Karlsson" (organ & drums) when he was here in my country.

No auto tune, just God given talent!!!! Every note perfect!!! This concert was in 1989. Stevie only had around a 7 year career, was hitting his stride when he died. Seeing him play is amazing!
You Really need to watch Stevie Ray play this live in Nashville he plays this behind his back 95% of the time than with one hand. It knocked my socks off. STEVIE RAY THE GOAT RIP
This was in 1989. He died the next year. Search for Stevie Ray Vaughan live in Austin and do the whole show. Then check out some performances from live at El Mocambo.
Watch his "Sound check" video. He just woke up. Walks onto the stage, yawning, wearing a Cheetah duster over his pajamas, with a Cowboy hat and snakeskin Cowboy boots. When you see something like that, you know shit's about to get real. 💣💥🎸
I have a friend of mine who is an excellent guitarist, really talented, and he told me once that after he first saw a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan, he didn't play his guitar for weeks after that. "Too depressed", he said. He told me that it was at that moment that he realized that no matter how much he practiced and how long he lived, he would never, never be that good. And let me tell you, this guy I know is phenomenal on guitar, he's no amateur. I mean, that says a lot about how good Stevie Ray was.
Stevie's very loving and respectful cover of Hendrix' "Voodoo Chile"...This was the 80s..I saw SRV and Double Trouble New Years Eve 1986 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta .He was killed in a Helicopter crash in Summer of 1990. Many tears shed...As Stevie's hero Jimi Hendrix once said, "when I die, just keep playing the records"...and we have...
Stevie had swagger and a great stage presence about him. I had the pleasure of seeing him twice in Philadelphia. Once in 84 and the second time less than two months before he died in 90.
Stevie Ray Vaughan started playing his brother Jimmy Vaughan's guitars when he was 7 but didn't really hit it big until the 80's when he went to a Albert King show and people say Albert King didn't like anybody but Stevie asked if he could sit in with Albert a couple of times until Albert said OK. Albert was so impressed by Stevie he took him with him to play with the best blues players around ( Stevie said he knew he wanted to play blues when he was little and heard a Muddie Waters song) and the rest is history. His career actually only span 7 years, he was killed in a helicopter crash August 27th 1990 at the age of 35 exactly 4 years to the day he lost his father, his brother Jimmy Vaughan plays guitar very well.
I saw him at Red Rocks . Bobby Blue Bland, Freddy King, B.B. King, SRV with guest Lonnie Mack. His cover of Little Wing is amazing . My favorite is Couldn’t Stand The Weather. People will recommend Texas Flood live at the Macambo. You want to feel all warm inside ? Tick Tock People
I seen him live 3 times in concert, he was killer every time, his constant change ups and ability to bend those strings is just amazing. If you ever have a chance pick up a guitar and try to bend the strings up like he did. Loved the reaction!
Not to mention he used super heavy/thick gauge strings & played using a higher tuning so the tension On The Strings.......You Had To Be HE-MAN to Bend Em.

Some details on the crash, it was after a show a rainy night, fog, and the ruling by the FAA was "pilot error". It was one of 4 flights out of there that night.
Stevie Ray was actually using Jimi's pedal in this performance. (Jimi Hendrix). Stevie Ray idolized Jimi and paid tribute to him. Some people get all bent and twisted and claim Stevie Ray was trying to actually be Jimi, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Stevie Ray actually went to see Jimi's father personally, and requested his permission to cover Jimi's songs. He didn't have his manager make a call, like most artists do. Stevie Ray died in a helicopter crash in 1990. Along with pilot Jeff Brown, Eric Clapton's agent Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and assistant tour manager Colin Smythe. 🙏🏼
He makes that sound with a piece of equipment called a wah-wah pedal. The pedal he's using was given to him by his brother, who got it from Jimi Hendrix.... he uses it when playing covers of Hendrix songs like this one, Little Wing, etc.
Chris and Tommy have an interview out there that states the pedal was gifted to him by Jimi's father, when he went to him to request his permission to cover Jimi's songs. I've seen comments that say he got it from his brother Jimmy Lee, but Chris and Tommy say that's not true. You can Search for it and watch it.

Stevie was a phenomenal talent. Peerless. I have to point out Chris Layton (drums) and Tommy Shannon (bass). You had to be one seriously badass rhythm section to hang with Stevie. Very underrated.
Fun fact: his wah-pedal (which he bends to adjust a couple of times here) was given to him by Jimi Hendrix's family. Please do check out all the other suggestions in the comments, paying attention to which concert it is, because on stage he purposefully never played anything quite the same way twice, so each version is unique in some way.
