I have nothing but love for my GX100. It is worth it weight in silver. It is literally nearly every Boss pedal in one place without all the cables. Edit: you are right about the GX100 being a device that helps you decide what hear you really want. Example, my Pedal Board is as follows: Empress Effects compressor MK2- Wampler Pantheon dual drive pedal- Boss GX100- Eventide H90. All the additional pedals are to free up DSP as well as having extra footswches. Thanks
I believe Tone Studio has the parameter adjustments for Katana like you mentioned at around 11:20. Not just the "more" knob near top of the screen. Appreciate the video!
@@riverludington5293Hi, forgive me if I misunderstood you, but you can adjust the effects in the Katana inside the tone studio. The Studio Rats have detailed examples of this on their channel (e.g. ua-cam.com/video/fSXptVyyKtQ/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared). I hope this helps. Good luck with your channel!
I’ve had the Katana 50 MK2 since release week, Not long after, I went thought something’s personally and didn’t play much for 5-6 YEARS! Things turned around and I wanted to buy a piece of gear to get me excited. I finally found a EVH Wolfgang special (MSRP $1,199) for $5,500… WELL two a black and white for $1,100!! I plan on selling one for around $700. The price I wanted to pay used. Interest and creativity has returned to a 100%. I then started looking at another toy. I originally bought the GX 10 but felt like it was very similar to my katana and I was better off getting the Line 6 HX Stomp for the verity in software. I got the HX stomp for (MSRP $699) $450 new! And full Helix Native software for $50!!when it’s normally $100 when you have a HXStomp. Long story longer I’m super happy with my decision.
Thank you for this excellent review! If I may correct you, it is entirely possible to adjust the effects parameters in tone studio for Katana. For several effects there are even more parameters than the real pedal that is emulated. It is even possible to configure which parameter will be affected by the amp's physical button in the Assign section.
@@martincloutier666 Someone else in the comments previously noted that and I did soon after figure out how to do that in Tone Studio! Thanks for noting it
Nice review and thoughts on GX-10. I have a GX-100 and I think it’s absolutely brilliant in terms of price comparison with other brands. The only gripe I have with GX-100 is that it’s a little bulky to carry around. I don’t use a lot of effects, maybe just a little reverb and delay, plus wah and volume, so I don’t need that many foot switches. GX-10 would have have been a perfect fit for my needs if it was available back then.
Hi there! Got one, use it as an effect pedal in combination with a Tonex , a Crazy Tube Circuits Unobtanium Raw pedal and a Crazy Tube Circuits HI Power pedal or just over my Fender Twin Tone Master. Insane effects. Period.
... thoughtful content, well done. Liked your sample at the end - great rhythm, good production - nice space for all instruments. Not a fan of heavy reverb on lead (but that's me).
This video earned you another subscriber. Me. Thank you. Maybe i get me one and abandon my GT100 and my nice little zoom G1X4 But i will keep my katana 212 mk2 as well the unbeleavibly well composed Fishmann Loudbox Mini Charge porti
Great job reviewing this device. Nice thoughtful and helpful comments to hear as I’m trying to decide between something like this or if I should go all out on the fender tone master. Do you have a feel for how the Boss modeled tones hold up to the other folks - helix, fender, quad cortex, etc?
@@VinceMGuitar I don’t have very much personal experience with other modelers, but I do with tube amplifiers. In my nearly 20 years of playing guitar, the most recent products from Boss have exceeded my expectations in a wild way, enough so that I don’t suspect I am turning back from Digital again. It’s likely apt comparing these devices to guitars. Would you enjoy a Quad Cortex or a $5000 boutique guitar? Of course! The best of the best swear by them. Can you think of any guitars you loved that were less than $1000? This device is exactly that.
I have the gx100 along with the Kat artist mark 2 and going inthe the power amp in. Works great. As far as the pricing goes I think I would spend the extra 100 for the gx100. I think if the gx10 was 100 less I think it would be much more marketable for an entry level multi effects pedal. But either the gx10 or gx100 both absolutely amazing devices. Thanks for the video and your input on this!
I'm a GT-1 user too as my only for live and recording, I like this new thing only for it's ability to dual amp using a couple I've heard in demo, -as much as I like it's possibilities that appeal to me personally I'm staying with the GT-1 This new unit is the only other device that's pricked up my ears including conventional amps in the last 4 years. I wish you every great success with your new GX10 ahead.
I've just bought a GX-100 after using the GT-1 for a number of years. Only been using it for a week, but the main thing I've noticed is clarity you get when playing with high gain. You can hear the different notes better on the GX-100, whereas on the GT-1 they are far less distinct. The X-Modded amp model is a particular favourite. I'd be interested to hear your views once you've had a chance to play through your GX-10.

I'm really leaning towards this pedal just for the effects. I'm hoping it will sound okay through the front of my Fender Hot Rod Deville with amp modelers and cab simulators off. I can't buy many analog pedals for $400 lol.
@@danehannon9658 I think as a multi-effects pedal its absolutely insane how much you get for $400. Plus if you really need to take advantage of the amp modeling capabilities at any point you have it available

I haven't yet! I prefer Manual Mode with the footswitches to move through my sounds, but I might need to give it a shot soon and make a video about it!
I don't believe that is accomplish-able with the GX-10. The GX-100 does have MIDI out, so that is likely a better choice to try and send program changes to your amp. The GX-10 has a compromised MIDI setup that allows it to accept control changes from a computer, but that's about all it seems to provide you. If I learn more I will make a video on the MIDI capability of the GX-10!
GX-100 is the way to go in my opinion. It's $100 more (right now on sale) than the GX-10 and has 5 more switches and also midi. GX-10 is great on the small footprint as you explained and that would be the only consideration to go with the 10 and not the 100 (in my opinion).
@@macmac838 If you can find a good sale, that can make all the difference on what unit to pick! The dedicated MIDI ports on the GX-100 could be very worth the added cost if you already have a MIDI setup. As a point of clarification, the GX-10 is MIDI capable it just requires you to use the USB-C port. If you already have a MIDI setup you will need a USB-C adapter. In my case, I just use a USB-C cable to connect to my laptop and I can use Tone Studio and send MIDI from my DAW. Thanks for the comment!
I don't know how long you've been playing, but if you feel you have to use the GX-10 in addition to other effects, maybe you're going in the wrong direction. Just a thought.
The sound sample at the end contains both a Boss Katana MKII as well as a GX-10. I think that sound sample is more important than any of Boss's marketing terms in determining whether this device is worth purchasing. I have an AIRD device and yet my Boss Katana remains indispensable to me. I don't think there is a substantial difference.
