This is a great video-Hi guys, I'm a pro session player in nyc, & this guy knows what he's doing. Each sound you demoed is fantastic. I have vintage fender Vox & Marshall's, also a quad cortex for live gigs, but the QC is quite fiddly to find something to dial up. I love the simplicity of this boss pedal!!! Thanks for a perfect demo. You should be getting tons of subscribers. Keep up the good work!
Very nice demo and review of this pedal . I love the way you demo with good power chords instead of a bunch of lightning fast shredding and lead playing. Just a great way to tell how the unit really sounds
I have the Boss IR 200. The high resolution Celestion IRs are killer. I turn off the preamp and reverb and use my own. Using it as just an ir pedal basically.
Agreed. I just set up my IR-2 board with favorites in front as well as some others in the send/return. This video is nice validation of what I was thinking when testing it out: something like, "Huh, this sounds pretty damn good." I chose the "Clean" and "Twin" models, but will have to check more closely into these X models.
I was thinking about getting this pedal, it sounds pretty amazing. I di however go the Friedman IR-D, and I'm blown away by it. It sounds just like a nice valve amp, with the option of choosing different speaker boxes on the fly. much more appealing to an old fart like me who hates menu's and option paralysis. Straight up dials, so when you hear something on stage you're not too keen on, 2 seconds to grab a knob and it's fixed. Through a fender fr10 and DI to desk.
I have this one and I like it mostly for its clean models. You have been able to get some great tones that I haven’t quite been able to achieve. One caveat, however, at least with mine, the headphone output is defective or came loose during shipping and outputs inconsistently. As a cheaper comparable alternative, I would suggest the NUX MP-3 which is more like the prematurely discontinued Katana Go, sounds as good as the IR-2, has more slots for your own presets and IRs, and can be rigged with a Bluetooth controller such as the M-Vave Chocolate to work in and be controlled in a pedal board setup.
I think all modeling units can become rabbit holes. Your video on this boss unit is great. You don’t have to spend tons of time and money to get your sound if you are a gigging musician.
hi Lee. Love these sounds, but it looks like you are saying that all the sounds are coming from the boss Ir2, when there also is delay and reverb added.(when you cut to the pedal, the "ambience" setting looks switch right down/off) I may have missed it, but can you clarify what else we are hearing?...........Hate for people (ie me!) to get this thinking they are going to sound like you do here just from the unit. Thanks a lot

I did have a katana which had a couple of these amps. The x modded amps are great and so is the brown channel on the katana and this IR2 has the rectifier which I also want to try. Very cool. Plus, it has an effects loop for a Micro pitch to get that Steve Vai crossroads movie tone! I think I will also buy the new Headrush 150 US dollars / 129 or 139 pounds or euros frfr practice small cab. I can put it on as a monitor. Or I can get the bigger frfr from Headrush as well and use it for stage volume where allowed. Otherwise just go to FOH. Hey Lee! Really pleased to have found your channel. I’ve followed your contributions over on The Studio Rats for quite some time. Subbed up. I happened to grab the Dept 10 overdrive based on your review. I agree with a lot of what you’re saying here, a big fan of the BOSS amp modeling, but if I can constructively intervene here, this idea of yours that a person is somehow “trapped into an ecosystem” well - I think that needs more careful consideration mate. There’s a bit of a flaw to this logic and it’s one you see across many guitar groups where people seem to drink the marketing koolaid and view modeling gear as if one needs to pit one system against another. Let’s say you have an hxstomp and you pair it with a Strymon iridium, or the IR2, or something again similar like the dept10, yes there is a lot of overlap but having built in redundancy here is always a plus. If you’re out touring and a pedal goes down, in no way should you allow yourself to be in a position where you don’t have multiple backups and this is where an Hxstomp or similar comes into its own. Replace that with whatever brand you want, but I’d highly encourage people to view gear in a more exploded view sort of diagram. An hxstomp even if you don’t touch a single bit of its modeling is still a dual fx loop, midi controller, tuner, audio interface, parallel path enabling box of tricks and sticking strictly to the idea of one pedal for one task kinda doesn’t make sense does it ? The only thing that locks people into any sort of ecosystem is their own preconceived notions. I see this a great deal in groups. I’ve used delay pedals, drive pedals, an iridium as a temporary desktop midi controller - why ? Because you can… folks have even commented repeatedly- “why not just buy a desktop controller?” Well I think that really- deconstructing the whole idea that gear somehow must be used as intended is a good thing. MacGuyver the hell out of your boxes I say ! There really are no actual constraints but the ones we bake up ourselves.
Hi mate. I see what you’re saying but I stand by my comments from the point of view of value for money. I don’t want to spend money on bits or parts of the gear I don’t need if I have that covered elsewhere. As for back ups? Yes I guess it’s a good idea but in over 30 years of gigging needing a back up has been so rare I can’t even remember more than 2 instances? Gear, especially modelling gear, is more reliable than ever these days
