Im a first time boater and the other day a gentalman helped me back my trailer up couse i never did it before. Good people still out thier
absolutely! besides the water, the boat ramp is my favorite place to be! i’ve helped guys back up trailers, fix their boats, etc... you can always learn something new!!
@@greysonshambaugh2483 im truly glad thier are guys like you that are willing to help
@@bryanfinchum8026 practice in the drive way. Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. To make your boat go left, move your hand left. Also I see a lot of new trailer divers over correct way too much. Slight adjustments.
@@michaelchapman1258 thank u
Boat size?
9.9s are great motors, enough power for what you need but also manageable to carry.
Thanks for the video.
I can relate. I have a 2009 9.9 hp 4 stroke and have been experimenting with the same tilt adjusments for improving speed and handling. I added a jackplate to bring the cavitation plate even to the keel this improved the speed from 12 mph to 19 mph at 5500 rpm wide open throttle with the 8.5 prop. I find for my boat the best tilt is #2 ( V-hull 14 foot aluminum ) Using non-ethanol gas also prevents carburetor from gumming up and causing starting and running problems. Letting the motor run out of gas by removing the fuel line from the motor and letting it run until it stalls at the end of the day also prevents problems that other posters have been mentioning. When I start the motor with choke pulled out I push it in almost immediately the engine goes to 900 rpm idle speed ( recommended Idle speed ) Smooth.
Keep up the nice videos
. I am 72yrs. old and love the friendliness at the boat ramp among other sportsmen.
I was just looking at jackplates, thinking about getting one myself. Thanks for the comment 👍🏽
I agree 100% with the non ethanol fuel, but letting it run out of gas is going to dry out everything in your carb if you don’t have an efi system.
Bud I found your channel last night and I just love your attitude. You've got a new fan, hope you're still actively making videos.
Thanks my man!!!
Man, that's great, didn't think a 9.9 would do it. Thanks for sharing.
„lets get crazy, i‘ll put it on 3“ 😂👌
I have a 2006 Nissan 9.9 hp 4 stroke and it has my mini rig way up from the rig u running. I have aluminum decking for the deck. It makes a difference from wood. I love the channel just started following along.
to unlock your engine and tilt it just put it in forward gear. no need to reach down in the water to unlock it. mercury has been that way for many years
You have no idea how much that little tidbit helped me
Thank you man
every outboard i have ever owned are unlocked in forward, because if you hit ground in should bounch off rather then destroying your transom and sink everything
I have the same motor but only get 8.5 mph on a 1650 Jon boat, with no modifications.
Hey man, nice job but to tilt your motor up you can just turn it in the forward position and that will pull that lever up, that you pulled up with your hand makes it a lot easier just make sure your motor is shut off 😊
Thank you for your video. I just got my first boat with a 2016 9.9 merc. It’s a 10’ rhib. Taking kids out for first run tomorrow. I was told I should be able to pull a skier if the BOat is not loaded. Not planning to ski but maybe get some tow tubes next summer. Excited. Your video is keeping me up late thinking about boating.
Watch which propeller you have... You might need a 6.5 to tow.
Not sure if 9.9 has any 4 blade options but I’ve heard it helps with speed I have one ordered for my 25 hp mercy efi
If you just put the motor in fwrd with the tiller handle the motor will tilt without risking smashing your fingers even with the motor off or running
Your videos are top notch! Keep punping em out!
Thanks man I appreciate it
I have a mercury 9.9 2021 on a 12'-56" I'm in (2) but also on the 2nd click up best for me..

💨💨💨 I BLOW... THE WIND OF GAWD 🤣🤣
What fuel connector do you use on your 9.9 I have gone through multiple already and the O ring only lasts several uses
I have the same motor and you taught me a better way to lift the motor rather than putting it in gear by just lifting that lever. I'm going to try that next time. Thank you sir.
Very helpful I just got a 9.9
Awesome!
9.9 and on the fly jackplates is where it's at on the smaller flat bottoms
🤘🏽
What does the red button in end of throttle do ? Thanks !
Shuts it off
Awesome video!! Is that lake tugaloo? If so my PB came out of there
Smith Mountain Lake, thanks!
The 9.9 Merc 4 cycles have an accelerator pump, and each twist of the throttle floods the engine with a shot of gasoline. Don't flood the engine, with or without the engine running.
How does this engine perform against a old 2 stroke 9.9hp? Acceleration?
I have an 84 evinrude 9.9 2stroke on a decked 16ft vhull and get close to 18mph . With a 15hp carb on her it'll hit 20 21
2002 nissan 9.9hp 2 stroke on a 94 alumacraft superhawk cs, 15 ft with decks and steering wheel, i get 22 mph
Do u wish u had put a 15 are 20 on it if u had it to do agin
Absolutely!! 20hp at least
All I did was heard the beginning of this video and sub cause you keeping it real 😂😂😂
Haha thanks mayn!!!
I want that hat. It’s rad!
That snippet of the dude blowing the camera down came from left field lol
I wonder what a cavatation plate and a Command Thrust lower would do for speed?
Hmm… that’s a good question, maybe worth trying
@@DudeLetsFish I'll subscribe, if you do it.

@@DudeLetsFish Fair enough. I've subscribed. Now let's see that video!
I have that same boat size wise. And I wanted to know how a 9.9 would push it. It really moves along and mine is not loaded like yours. I can buy that motor for 1000.00 less overseas with free shipping. Why are they that much more in the US?
Not sure about that but that’s a killer deal!!
Be really careful with the Jakarta Indonesia market. A lot of people are getting scammed ! Look up the companies on the internet and you will see their reviews. Many have lost all their money! Just a warning!
hi this kevin i have Mercury 8.0 deck out like yours whats good not 3 or 2 try both i like the boat wrap
I have mine on 3, seems to be the best for top speed
Awesome💚 thanks kindly 🤙😎👍
Thank you!
Thanks a lot! I just bought a 2021 midel, 12 foot Lowe johnboat yesterday and it is equipped with a 2021 mercury 9.9, so this video was very helpful as I prepare to put it into the water for the first time tomorrow. Thanks!
Awesome!!!!
I would like to know what a 9.9hp does on a 16foot boat. Speedboat style. 1979 Silverline. HP restrictions in my area
I'm getting 8 mph in 17.5 aluminum deepv
I have the same Mercury 9.9hp engine from 2017.
A 450 kg boat reaches a maximum speed of 14 km / h.
Can the engine be blocked at the factory because the engine's max revs are 4500 n / nin. F8.5 screw.
Now I have mounted the charging and starter, spring tests with the towing screw.
Get a 20hp carb and install it you will get 18hp and it should plane out at 22km
If you want some more speed take out the rubber intake restriction thats in the cover by the handle inside.Big difference!
Seriously?
@@DudeLetsFish yes
You try it
hi, can you tell me what the knob that can be turned before the accelerator is for?
Looking to get a 12 foot welded jon boat with a merc 9.9. Been watching some video of the same or similar setup. Guys are getting around 20-21mph with one or two people bare boat just boat, motor and gas tank. That’s all I’m really looking for just something to run bayous and small rivers with.
Nice!! You’ll love it
Great video! On my 12' V hull aluminum, i get 30kph (19mph) and it's not rigged out. Definitely fast enough for me. Cheers! 🚤🎣
Right on!
You connect mercury motor and Humminbird with NMEA 2000?
I think it only works with 40hp and above, I could be wrong…
That’s a beautiful looking lake.
Up the Roanoke side of Smith Mountain Lake
this motor and Honda 20HP is very different in terms of speed? I have this motor and considering to buy the Honda 20HP but I want a real and big difference in terms of performance. Please advice me. THank you...
I’m pretty sure the Mercury 20hp would smoke a Honda 20hp, anyone else have any input???
@@DudeLetsFish 'smoke' you mean better? I made tons of research and talked with sellers and users. Actually except minority of some people, everyone says 'Honda' :)
Have you modified the motor to get that kind of speed?????
No mods 👍🏼
@@DudeLetsFish then I can’t understand how you could get that kinda speed. I am in a 1650 with no boat modifications, just the way it came from the dealer and the best I can get is about 8.5 mph. Brand new 9.9 Mercury. Help me out please.
@@charlestiner3045 maybe u didnt set properly. maybe engine is too low or too high
Just put a 2020 15HP 4 stroke EFI on my 14’ J boat and it runs 24 MPH with or without a load... I’m thinking I could probably give up a little torque for a few more MPH with a steeper pitch prop. though. It’s not a speed boat, but ya know... still fun to tweek it out for max performance.
That's already cruising 😂
How much does your boat weigh? Mines a little smaller at 14 ft but this motor seems perfect
Good question, not really sure how much it weighs?
That little tohatsu run pretty good!
🤣😁
@@DudeLetsFish that’s who made that motor. They’ve made motors for the Japanese fishing industry for decades. Very reliable! I’ve got the 9.8 4 stroke. It’s been amazing. Quiet, reliable and uses hardly any fuel.
@@williamsporing1500 ah ok, I might have heard something like before. 👍🏼
@@DudeLetsFish all merc and Suzuki motors under 20hp are made by tohatsu. If taken care of, they’ll last a very long time.
Hey man nice video do you know the weight boat around "cc"
Nice test. Surprised at 3 being quickest or no ?!? Watching from Ontario Canada
do you think the mercury 9.9 will plane a tracker 1648?
Hmm… not sure. If it’s the topper flat bottom then yeah.
is the water only 1.7 feet deep in the middle?
Na, it’s like 40ft… that humminbird transducer looses footage when you go faster than 5mph
What size prop do you have on your boat?
That’s a good question, not really sure
I notice there’s an audible rattle sound which can be heard around the mid throttle range. My brand new 20 hp also has this and I’m kind of worried. Anyone else experience this? If so, have you figured out what’s causing it?
if it's the 2020 like mine (i have the 2020 15hp) , I noticed when I have the manual lift motor thing (red handle) flipped down I hear a small rattle... when the red handle is flipped up, there is no rattle. Something in that mechanism has something that rattles slightly... anyway, it's normal imo
Great video thank you👍
Thanks for watching
I have a 1996 9.9 kicker merc and the thing runs like a brand new motor
Oh yes, they have a great track record for lasting
Should I get this outboard for a 2020 tracker 1436?
Sounds like a good fit!
here's my 1436 with a merc 9.9 hp.
ua-cam.com/video/yRDbIW_RF2s/v-deo.html
I have a q4ft smoker craft deep v. Do you think a 9.9 outboard will be good. I don't care too much for speed.
Oh ya, it’s a strong motor
I am planning to buy my first motor for my 1448 Jon boat that is decked out with a big deck can hold my rods
What motor you getting?
Nice video and boat! I have a 14' aluminum sylvan with a 1998 evinrude 9.9hp and my boat fully gutted with no batteries or fishing tackle gets 23.5 mph. its crazy.
Same here with my 89 2 stroke mercury 9.9
My 20 year old Johnson 9.9 does 31kmh on my 3.6m v nose punt
Just great editing and fun to watch. I’m not even in to motors and speed and all that but I watched anyway. Thanks man.
Hell yeah, I appreciate it!!
How would that do on a 14’ Avalon mini pontoon?
Prolly push it good
Thanks for the video.
To anyone reading this.... I have a 2021 Merc 9.9.
I was reading that the merc 9.9 isnt a Merc 9.9 but a Tohatsu 9.8 re labeled. Which means a completely different motor than the 15 and 20.
Is this correct?? Or like my old 2018 suzuki, is it just a de tuned 15-20 motor. If it is I want to put the 20 carb and prop on it. If infact it is just the Tohatsu 9.8 it probably wont take the fuel from the 20 carb, mabee flood it.
Does anyone know the answers to my ideas? Thanks!!
It will work!
But you will need to change the prop shaft to a 14 spline and clutch dog from a 12 spline, to utilize the extra 9hp.
They are 18hp with the 20hp carb on them. If you can fit the 25hp carb you will get 20hp
i got an empty 12' jon with a new 9.9, you think ill get 20 mph??
Possibly
ran my 2019 9.9 merc on my buddies boat topper 1236 it ran 22-24
Sharkattack 966 dang!!!
Just bought the same engine brand new as well. However upon my speed test if only reaches 10km/hr (not miles). Would you have any idea as to why that is? I assume since it’s a new engine it takes a few usages for the engine to loosen and be at its full potential, however please let me know if there is any other reason as to why that is
Could be the weight of the boat?
Dude Lets Fish don’t believe so as it is just an inflatable dinghy around 40kg
@@dan61909 Gotcha, try raising or lowering the trim... that might help
Wow much are these? Ball Park.
If it is brand new, you were running it in, no? Not speed testing.
Do you know what pich prop you are running. I have the same boat and motor with a 9. Was thinking of going a little higher
Not sure, I will check
You have only 3 choices for the 9.9... Stock is 8.5, you can get the 7.5 and the 6.5
I run the 6.5 with a heavy load, pulls the boat out of the water way faster than the 8.5
Hey mate, great video. Is that miles per hour or knots? Also would you know how high you cavitation plate is from hull bottom. I just bought on of these for a small boat. Having trouble getting past 7 to 8 knots.
MPH, not sure on my cavitation plate
Thanks for that, very interesting. About half to speed your getting. Great work on the vids!
Tim Chapman I appreciate it
On my small 12ft boat, I get 35kmh with only one passenger.
@@SilmarilS79 super interested to know if your cavitation plate hight compared to the bottom of the transom?
nice speeds, what prop are you running?
Factory prop, not sure the pitch
Factory is 8.5...try a 7.5 your rpm sounds low..
I had that motor..with 8.5 getting 4500rpm way to low i ended up with a 6.5 hit 5840 rpm gained 2 mph.
I have the same merc 9.9 (new) and it seems to stall when I push in the choke after starting it cold. Dealer says to rev it some before I push in the choke. Do you have to do the same? The manual doesnt mention anything about reving the engine before pushing in the choke.
It should run fine without the choke after a minute with the choke.
Never run ethanol fuel without fuel treatment thats what the problem is
@@natehowell793 No, the problem is not ethanol fuel. It's poor maintenance and not draining the carb after use. People don't read the manual, which explain it.
Run a bit longer with chock on
@@SilmarilS79 lol I think Johnny is having a bad day...
Good video my man! I have a 12 footer so this was great info. Thanks yo!
Not bad at all for a nine. Nine good simple easy and thrifty rig bye from Stavros in Florida
I'm leaning towards a Grizzly 1448 and the Mercury 9.9 will be perfect for running the river and lakes, mph and what 25 mpgs?
Grizzly’s are very well built boats
Next size down prop in pitch would help alot
Yeah? Might try that
Yes leave it in the 3 setting for it was running sooooo smoooooth and laboring and not bad at 15.8 with your weight of that flat bottom johnny boat !!!
Agree! Thanks
I luv 9.9. Never been interested in those 50 billion hp, $90 trillion dollar rigs!
Same
How much was your motor
You can raise and lower it with the accellorater shaft
Hi, Anyone who compared this Mercury 9.9 and Suzuki 9.9? I've a Suzuki 9.9 (2 stroke) which has super low vibration in high speed, and I'm thinking of buying another Mercury 9.9
Never ran a Suzuki 9.9, I almost bought one.. heard they were strong motors
@@DudeLetsFish The only problem is the SUZUKI 9.9 was designed as a 15hp, so its 36kg...
how much is that motor cost?
Retail around $2,400 I think
That camera quality though..... 🔥😳

thats exactly why i dont watch the damn news either man , i dont mess with things that are negative
What max RPM are you getting?
I really don’t know, doesn’t have a gauge
Can it charge a battery?
Don’t think so
You can buy a kit to add battery charging
#3 slot would be faster but might have some cavitation. That is a heavy boat.
I bought a brand new 15 hp, and it sank the same day. I recovered it luckily but man the boat was about to capsize from another boaters wake. To bad I didn’t get their bow number. Idiots driving boats these days.
For real??

Excellent video. Firstly check the motor height with a straight edge to the cav. Plate and bottom. Once that is optimum then get one of those cheap portable tachos. Check that the engine is up the top of it's recommended rev. range or select an appropriate prop. You will be amazed. Small boats rarely have the correct prop.
Why does it sound like it's missing?
Not sure 🤔
That’s the rev limiter
I know it’s been a year ago according to ur video... is the motor a long shaft? Short shaft? If it a long try adding a jack plate to ur transom to in crease the height of the motor to where the cavitation plate is about 1” below the bottom of the transom ... I did that to my boat and now it’s a speed boat ..lol
Short shaft, my buddy has a long shaft and had to get a jack plate
3) trim 16 mph 💜
Yeah your heavy with just you and an empty boat you would be well over 20 knots! It would be interesting to weigh your boat!
That’s a good idea
If you really want to weigh it, try finding a local scrap yard. They should have a big drive-on scale for calculating scrap value of cars.
Pull the empty trailer onto it, weigh it. Then put the boat on the trailer and weigh them both. Subtract the weight of the trailer, there ya go.
That's a good words....
Point A to B is all 1 needs... fast boats don't put fish in the boat
That's true!
You can make your 9.9 into a 15 by just ordering a oem 15hp carb and swapping it for yours
I get 18 on my heavy boat . Water fouler with just me and gear
what size boat?
It's an alumacraft water Fowler it's like 16x48 dry weight with boat alone is 392 without anything
