  • Many have asked about why I haven't used my Mercury 9.9 yet. Well finally here it is and this has taken fishing to a whole new level. I'm so glad I got this motor. Watch and see how much easier it is to zip around the lake and get to spots before others. I'll also take you through the step by step process of breaking in a Mercury 9.9. I even caught some bass along the way :).

    I like how you mention that you struggle catching fish...
    So do I, but that don't matter because just being out on the water and away from all the every day noise is so worth it!

    CONGRATULATIONS on a great build! No doubt THE coolest jon boat I have seen. And thanks for powering that boat with the Mercury 9.9. Welcome to our channel. This should be a good time to order your boat. I started my order process last year around Nov/Dec which didn't work out that good in terms of availability and order fulfillment. Dealers were in transition waiting for the new models to come in so my boat didn't come in until late Feb early March. Sounds like your setup will be sweet.

    Tohatsu (who made your motor) makes a great motor. I used to run a 1965 evinrude 9.5. Good motor. But when I retired, I bought myself a 9.8 4 stroke. All I can say is ooooh my! These things are SO fuel efficient it’s scary. I was putting fuel in my boat every time I went fishing. Now I can get 4-5 trips out of a 3 gallon tank.
    Great looking boat brother! It will bring you years of pleasure.
    And yea, it’s a long, pain in the butt process to break in a motor, but it will make the motor last a LONG time.

    I have the exact same motor and noticed it took 10 pulls to start. My motor does not like choke on initial start. If I have any choke, it will not start. It's odd, but it starts on 2nd or 3rd pull with no choke and once it starts, I pull the choke half out for warm up. Runs smooth like yours.

    • @cramsburg9
      @cramsburg9 3 роки тому +1

      2 strokes are loud, they pop, sputter and vibrate more , blow oil in the water. But 2 strokes are more simply engineered , lighter , way less parts. Ive only had 2 strokes by will be moving to 4 strokes for the next boat .

      Key to starting those is DO NOT USE THE CHOKE. They are "warm blooded" so unless its below 50 degrees, don't use the choke. Always give it 3-4 pulls cold first. If it has no life after that, then pull the choke out and give it 1-2 pulls. I have a 2022 8HP Merc and was making the same mistake choking it all the time. Bought the same engine and instantly regretted it. Leaks oil. Took it back where I bought it and they washed it off and I went home. To this day, two years latter it still leaks. Not even two hours of run time. Can’t take it back to have it looked at because a drunk ran into my truck and totaled it. Hopefully by summer I can get it looked at. Bye a motor made in Japan instead.

    kayak or the boat ? I wanna get a boat or a kayak but cant decide?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  3 роки тому

      It's a tough decision. Three main guidelines... Buy the one that:
      1) fits your style of fishing 2)works with the bodies of water you fish and 3) you have space at home to store the boat.

      @@rodrigoelgu I would choose a Jon boat over a kayak. But I would also choose a Pelican bass raider over a kayak also. The bass raider is a perfect mix between a Jon boat and kayak. @@rodrigoelgu the flat bottom is awesome for stability.
