NOTE: The third pickup position is actually the 2 inner coils instead of the middle pickup on it's own. Still sounds killer though! Please pardon the slight screw up. Enjoy the tones and check these guitars out!! 🎸🎵🎶🔥
The folks at Charvel have to be smiling after watching this video. Crushing it with quality builds. Pretty evident they have actual guitar players turning the screws at that office.
I think Charvel nailed this model. It has many features that you will only find on most $2K plus guitars. I’m a les Paul guy, but I would like to pick one of these up. They seem very versatile.
Cameron Cooper I’m considering selling my 82 les Paul custom and grabbing one of these. I love my les Paul but every time I open the case I see $3000 just sitting there and I find myself asking what went into this guitar to make it worth that much.... I think I may Go that route. What do you think?
@@deeno1114 If I was in your position I'd feel exactly the same. If I were you, I'd keep the LP and wait to see what awesome 2019 Charvel stock is coming out. But if heart is set on a DK24 2pt like this one, now is the time to pounce on one, maybe two. ;)
Great video Cameron. Your'e video quality improved by a mile in the past few months. Saw one of you old videos and the improvment is just amazing. Well done
I received a brand new green one yesterday. In case you are thinking of one....long story 2 of the trem springs were rolling around unattached under the trem cavity cover. The attached one was not in the right place and the bridge was pulled all the way forward. Out of the box. But I worked on for an hour and a half and....now it’s just amazing!! Now that the whole thing is properly adjusted, I cannot stop playing it. It’s beautiful, it’s lighter in a wonderful way, the neck and finish feel so comfortable. I am telling you too, the pickups are just perfect. This is the best bridge humbucker I have tried. There’s no nasally harshness at all. It’s a great great value!
Well, thanks to your first review of the HSS, I ordered the HSH is Army Green. Get it tomorrow. I love that Charvel puts all these quality additions on their guitars, but doesn't stick it to the customer and add an outlandish amount to the price. This will be my first Charvel and I'm super excited!! Thanks for the reviews!!
Great choice! I was soo close to closing on that drab green one - suits my grunge/rock style nicely, I reckon.... But, being a bit short this round, I settled on a prs se, which I am loving on my lap right now. Only thing for it is to start saving once again... 😯 long exhale..
Jay D How are you liking it? Im just finding out about these now and the green hsh interests me, was looking for a guthrie alternative, ‘bout as close as you can get!
Whoa! Gorgeous guitar! I really like the orange with the caramelized maple neck and fretboard! And the fact that they put my favorite SD bridge pickup in it, the Full Shred (Kramer used the Full Shred in the Nightswan I had WAY back in the day) makes it even better! I love Charvel guitars! I hope they came out okay after the recent California wildfires. Congrats on your new axe!
Cam. Awesome Video!! When do you think we can expect new colors for the HSH models?? I love the orange but I would like a natural color or white. Keep it up!!
These guitars sound and feel way too good for the price point they're at. Definitely grabbing one in the next few months. Great review and killer playing!
A few years ago, I swore I would never buy a "cheap" guitar ever again. I have to say that I'm tempted by these. They do seem to be overachievers and I swear I hear a bit of brown sound with that Full Shred.
Just one quick correction, it's a small one and I know I'm being picky lol, but the third position is actually both inner coils of the humbuckers, not the single coil. Just thought I'd put it out there for anybody reading this. Anyways, love the video Cam, was the main reason I ended up buying mine!
Love that color and that neck...oh my. Charvel keeps pumping out quality stuff I want and my wallet keeps getting thinner. I just picked up the Satchel signature and it is one sweet guitar from the playability to the fit to the finish. And they are releasing another version of the Satchel signature in green. And oh yeah, your playing here ain't too shabby either... :)
Dude you're so awesome. And thank you for inspiring me to play and save up for a Charvel I'm almost there!! Dude you conveyed all of the sounds awesome. Cheers!
"It hugs you" 😁👍 My next purchase is DK 24 HH Purple Phase, unless I wait for NAMM 19 to see if they release it in caramelized maple with 2 point term.
Damn kid! I was sold by 5-6minutes in, just on the specs, and then you had to launch into the most savage thunderstorm of viscious runs & filthy licks this side of Hades! Now I don't know whether I'm ready to sign an open cheque for this or to give up guitar for good! Hahaha, nah - great demo! 😎👍
That heel, my pinky touched the 24th fret without my palm changing how it would grip lower on the fretboard without even noticing the heel or the horn.
If a guitar shop that offers international shipping will have a sale on charvels i'll buy one for sure. Unfortunately charvels aren't sold in my country =(
Cam you have totally developed your own style, sounds awesome. Any tips for a player who’s only been goin for 18 months? Trying to get closer to my icons like Randy Rhoads and Jake E Lee. Should I learn some new licks?? Thanks again, love the 1080p.
Go after what excites you the most and learn it in your own way. The best place to start if you're going after licks from Jake and Randy would be by learning songs both of them have played, Crazy Train, Mr Crowley and I Don't Know are my best examples. :)
I bought one of these back in March. I love it. I am thinking about changing the pickups to a Duncan Distortion in the bridge and putting a Full Shred in the neck. Waiting to hear back from SD to see if they can get me those pickups to match, because I love the way it looks. The video you did with the Super Stock Skull model reminded of why I love the Duncan Distortion so much. Killer playing Cameron.
What's your thoughts on the tonal differences between the split position of the neck humbucker in the HSH vs the single coil in the HSS? Trouble deciding and no store stock them yet so i can hear :(
That would be the Guthrie Govan. Stellar axe. But $3,000. Worth it, but these terms give you all the flutter and finesse. So unless you're still doing crazy dive bombs, this axe will take good care of you.
Ahhh but the San dimas is awesome too... We love the San dimas and so cal very much... The dk24 2pt just adds a new dimension... Charvels can be addictive and cam and I need to go into rehab... Although hopeless addicts can never be cured!
I'm probably one of the few that like that neck and fretboard better than standard maple are Rosewood or ebony. Damn good-looking guitar and sounds amazing.
Cameron if you don’t mind - Could you give me an advice on setting up delay for lead stuff like you did here? It really sounds perfectly fitting and I‘m always struggeling finding the right mixture (repeats, level, feedback etc...)
hi cameron, great review, do you think it can handle lower tunings (say drop B) and still provide tight chugs / low notes definition ? i know that the pickups are close to distortions which can do that but considering the other specs like the alder body i'm not so sure anymore. i would really like to have this as my next guitar but only if it can do heavy metal as well
Hey Cam! I wanted to know if you think that the sound of this guitar is at all thinner or not as full sounding compared to a Charvel San Dimas or So Cal... Does the smaller body size take away from the "punch" that a Charvel usually has. Thank you
Can you tell me a little more about the neck. I've been playing a Gibson '57 Reissue Goldtop for about 6 years but had to sell it due to financial hardship. I loved the feel of that neck. I don't like super thin necks or super fat necks like the older Jeff Beck strats used to have. This one seems to have a medium neck and that would be perfect. Plus I love the jumbo frets!
Hey Cameron, great vid! Have you tested the DC Resistance on the bridge humbucker? Mine is reading like the Full Shred Neck (7.08k for me) when it should be higher near 14k. Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

How’s the HSH with holding tune after some dives in the whammy? I like that the trem isn’t locking, so I can easily change tuning, since I can’t afford multiple guitars for separate tuning modes.
It's designed for more subtle tremolo use rather than proper dives. It stays in tune well generally. If you want to change tunings often, I would suggest buying a hard tail guitar of some kind.
Lad, you shred that shit up! Noice one, Bruz, paint your town *red* with that weapon of an axe!! (I'm perving on the army drab green one myself. It'll fit my more grunge-rock roots influence...)
My only gripe with these guitars(i have an HH in burgundy mist) is the fret work could be a lot better considering the price. I sent my first one back and the second is better but not even close to perfect so eventually will need some leveling when I get around to it. I mean how hard is it to give you a $1000 guitar with level frets? The most important part of the guitar is the neck and frets and that attention to detail is almost never there when it comes to fretwork. I didn't bother sending this one back as I assumed they are all similar but I do love the guitar and i'll get it right myself.
Thanks for the awesome vid! I’ve been gassing for this one since the moment Charvel announced it; it literally has everything that I’m looking for. On paper that is, won’t know for sure until I have one in my hands... One question: How is the tuning stability? Since locking tuners I see less and less locking nuts, but is it just as stable as a good Floyd? Anyway, Thanks again for the great video and awesome channel!🤟🏻
John Cooper Thanks mate! I’m now just waiting until they are available here in The Netherlands and hopefully they play and feel as good as they look and sound!
Is there such an enormous difference between roasted maple on this one and ordinary maple on DK24 Floyd? I would like to buy the Floyd version. But if the roasted maple neck is worth going for, I’ll buy this HSH or HSS with GoTohs.
It's totally worth going with roasted maple. I thought it was a gimmick, but then I tried it out and was incredibly impressed. So nice feeling, fast, and even smells great!
I have the same guitar same colour but have huge issues with staying in tune and can't never use the tremelo. Even when I pull off it gets out of tune. Need to give it to someone who can setuo but it's so expensive here in Australia.
Played one today and want one as my affordable superstrat. Great playing axe. Now if only they made a USA version and a custom shop USA one, why not WTF? Plays like butter almost as good as my way more expensive Suhr Modern Satin.
NOTE: The third pickup position is actually the 2 inner coils instead of the middle pickup on it's own. Still sounds killer though! Please pardon the slight screw up. Enjoy the tones and check these guitars out!! 🎸🎵🎶🔥
