The issue is criminal use of firearms. The constitution gives me the right to own. The constitution was meant to limit government control over the citizenry but people in some respects would rather be led by authoritarianism for some sense of safety. I own guns. I will never give them up. EVER.
Actually the constitution just affirms that the government can’t take those rights away, they were already granted by God at least in the eyes of the Founding Fathers
I agree and disagree with that statement. If you are a law abiding citizen, I don't care if you own firearms. In fact I would say good for you. However if you committed a violent felony or used the fact that you had firearms to threaten another unlawfully then I feel you need to lose the right of firearm ownership. At least until you can prove you deserve said rights back. That includes making threats of violence on the internet/ social media. I believe firearm ownership should be seen as a privilege that anybody can enjoy, but like a privilege, it can be taken away if abused.

You want to call the cops before you do something serious if you CAN, so they have it on record of your serious situation, but definitely know what to say and do and what not.
NBC! Thank you for this observation. There are still gun owners who refuse to point their weapons at other humans. In my house it is the door that stays unlocked, whereas my pistol is secured. By far the best self defense is to build a community where citizens greet each other, look each other in the eye, and have replaced fear with friendship.
“Call the police” Ok…..how long will it take for the people to get to your place. What he forgot to mention regarding Baltimore, they have strict gun laws and yet it doesn’t do anything to protect law-abiding citizens. And that woman at the very end, absolutely fantastic for her!
The wildest thing is that Virginia, as state which makes less money than Maryland, and has a higher population, has less than half the violent and property crime rate of Maryland. Why? Because for the most part, they try to focus on apprehending actual violent criminals rather than putting in new firearms laws, although the Democrats did implement some new ones when they seized control for a few years, which just happened to coincide with the violent crime rates skyrocketing in the state. Go figure, you start to go after lawful citizens trying to own their firearms peacefully rather than the actual criminals, your state's crime rate skyrockets. Who would've known? 🤷♂
I'm surprised and impressed at how much more balanced this coverage was compared to their sister organization's (MSNBC) approach to this very same issue. It isn't black and white, and no, ghost guns cannot bypass metal detectors....
Keeping a firearm with a lock threw it thinking you’ll have time to unlock it before you can use it, is like thinking you’ll have to put your seatbelt on before you crash.
It looked like he had plenty of other guns, ready to go, so if he secured the rest of his guns, and kept one ready as his "house gun", he should be good to go.
This is a fantastic, well-balanced story. I love how it covered multiple sides of an extremely complex situation. Great reporting skills! Edit: Perhaps “extremely complex” is an exaggeration. To reiterate what I was trying to say is that broadly there is two sides to this story (ones who want more restrictions and those who don’t). It got complex when seeing the reasoning behind each interviewed individual. Hopefully this clarifies my original comment.

What Michelle Douglas said at the end, it really struck a cord with me. She isn't the one who should be barred from owning high-powered automatics, and I feel like we've lost the plot in the madness that is American politics. In truth, disturbed individuals with violent intent --- violence against a person or persons --- should have restriction placed on them. As far as sane gun owners go, however, as long as they have proper training and understand their responsibilities, I don't see a problem.
Training costs money and excludes poor people from exercising their rights to defend themselves. If they make people pay to have a right its not a right

Existing gun law unjustly punishes and permanently removes 2nd amendment gun rights for drinking & driving. Who is the injured party to question in court, and who is the victim when all offenses are pull-over-and-blow arrests void of the accident, incident, victim, or injured party? (This crazy law denies Jurisprudence!) Michigan law says 3 DUIs in a lifetime create a permanent non-reversible felony. These newly created (Mom & Dad) non-violent criminals cannot hunt, and protect themselves, their wealth, or their family by firearm, ever! (A permanent felon!) The obscure law has a nexus with federal law. It is based on imaginary death and destruction that drinking and driving often create and do not discriminate between "victim" and "victimless" offenses. (There's no distinction in law between driving accidents, incidents, or having a victim vs simple pull-over and blow arrests!) When DUIs are in fact victimless, without having an injured party, the severity of punishment should never permanently remove 2nd amendment gun rights ... This law lacks distinction between the two classes (With Victim/Without Victim) offenses! AMERICAN LAWS CREATE SLAVES OUT OF THIN AIR!!
Ya, he should know from his family being police that they do not have teleportation devices to get to his house before intruder's bullet hits him. They only have cars so they can be there in 10mins after to collect evidence to catch your murder.
I’m from Baltimore. Anyone anywhere near the city, especially those that live in the city, in the hoods/projects (as we call them) can tell you that most of these guns aren’t being bought at stores. The restrictions hold no weight, they are being imported or stolen. Baltimoreans have already gone through a mental washing by the party in power for over 60 consecutive years. My mother was adamantly against firearms. Well I lived a difficult life and so I was quick to find means to make money, legally. I would buy BB guns and such. And though she disliked guns, she would take my BB guns to use as a last line of defense for the house because though she hated them, she was still scared something might happen. And that kind of shows the real relationship we have with guns in America…though not all of us want them, most of us would be better off with one because most of us can easily become homicide statistics. The criminals are not restricted in their arsenal and will just as easily turn on the populous to protect their business, even resorting to executions in front of children and firebombing homes with adults and children inside. I’ve seen bodies, whereafter they collect the body, the blood stays on the pavement. I’ve seen shootings. I joined the military and my standoffishness to guns was broken not by the military but by my roommate who took me to my first civilian range and also helped me understand the need for firearms. I was an infantryman willing to use a rifle to protect and defend the constitution but not myself or my family. Then I read Federalist No. 29 and understood what the context of the 2nd Amendment was and is. I recommend anyone new to this topic read or listen to it. Don’t allow them to restrict your rights when you are more likely to be killed than they are. The president rolls around in an armored limousine with glass thicker than a snicker with snipers on the rooftops at every event he travels to. Meanwhile you drive an 07 Honda Civic and folks are smashing windows out here with hammers. Preserve the right of the people to protect themselves against the unlimited arsenal of criminals that decide the time and place where they victimize you.
You really underestimate how many gun owners and guns there actually are lol. Approximately 75 million to 110 million owners with between 300 million and 1 billion firearms. There's so many that even the government doesn't know.
That's the reason criminals are criminals because the opportunity is there but if they have alternate opportunities they're more likely take them but when you give no other opportunities except violence that's what gets chosen
I like what they all said. You need education and training. What we need to teach everyone in the country to respect other people lives. You don't need to get violent. If we are getting so angry we are getting violent then we need help. Are there times when you need to take a life? Yes, in the defense of your life or others. However, not because you were offended by what someone said, or for drugs. Good video!!!
Do you not understand the difference between SELF DEFENSE and MURDER? If you use a weapon, of any kind, to unlawfully victimize others, that is a CRIME! 99.999% of gun owners NEVER use a gun to commit a crime, and yet, we are the ones blamed by the gun grabbers for the crimes of the .00001% of armed criminals. My Rights are not dependent on the actions of criminals, the approval of government, or the fears and feelings of the "masses".
This was nicely done journalism. It’s okay for a journalist to have a bias, but what separates a journalist from a GOOD journalist is getting perspectives from as many individuals as you can (so long you can still make a good summary of each individual without going over your time limits). This segment was a very nice listen. I was intending on this being background noise, but I ended up focused on this.
I understand the viewpoint of the guy who said he would rather call the police than shoot a home invader. I agree, but police response times in many places can be very long. Maybe it's ok that it's not his goal to shoot an intruder while waiting on the cops, but he should still be prepared to do so if the intruder poses an imminent danger.
Think about this for a second We own 433.9 MILLION firearms in this country, that's 433.9 million in the hands of citizens, not military, not police, just run of the mill Americans We have 480,000~ deaths each year from cigarettes We had 200,955 deaths from unintentional injuries (accidents) in 2020 We have 140,000~ deaths each year from alcohol We had 42,795 traffic deaths in 2022 We had 19,592 deaths by firearm in 2022, at least half of those were suicide, with another large portion being crime/gang related You're 2x more likely to be killed driving to work or the grocery store than you are by firearm You're 7x more likely to die from alcohol than by firearm You're 10x more likely to die from an accident (of any kind) than by a firearm You're 25x more likely to die from cigarettes than by a firearm If guns were the problem, you'd think we would have deaths in the hundreds of thousands given citizens own 433.9 million firearms. There are an estimated 1,000,000~ times a year that firearms are used in legal self defense, and that doesn't always mean someone was shot, sometimes just pointing a gun will drive a criminal off.

Keeping a firearm with a lock threw it thinking you’ll have time to unlock it before you can use it, is like thinking you’ll have to put your seatbelt on before you crash.

(This crazy law denies Jurisprudence!)
Michigan law says 3 DUIs in a lifetime create a permanent non-reversible felony. These newly created (Mom & Dad) non-violent criminals cannot hunt, and protect themselves, their wealth, or their family by firearm, ever! (A permanent felon!)
The obscure law has a nexus with federal law. It is based on imaginary death and destruction that drinking and driving often create and do not discriminate between "victim" and "victimless" offenses. (There's no distinction in law between driving accidents, incidents, or having a victim vs simple pull-over and blow arrests!)
When DUIs are in fact victimless, without having an injured party, the severity of punishment should never permanently remove 2nd amendment gun rights ...
This law lacks distinction between the two classes (With Victim/Without Victim) offenses!

The entire last part was amazingly said. Respect to that gun club.
There are more guns than there are people on earth.
Right to bear arms shall never be infringed.
Thats why our country could never be conquered

If you use a weapon, of any kind, to unlawfully victimize others, that is a CRIME! 99.999% of gun owners NEVER use a gun to commit a crime, and yet, we are the ones blamed by the gun grabbers for the crimes of the .00001% of armed criminals. My Rights are not dependent on the actions of criminals, the approval of government, or the fears and feelings of the "masses".

We have 480,000~ deaths each year from cigarettes
We had 200,955 deaths from unintentional injuries (accidents) in 2020
We have 140,000~ deaths each year from alcohol
We had 42,795 traffic deaths in 2022
We had 19,592 deaths by firearm in 2022, at least half of those were suicide, with another large portion being crime/gang related
You're 2x more likely to be killed driving to work or the grocery store than you are by firearm
You're 7x more likely to die from alcohol than by firearm
You're 10x more likely to die from an accident (of any kind) than by a firearm
You're 25x more likely to die from cigarettes than by a firearm
If guns were the problem, you'd think we would have deaths in the hundreds of thousands given citizens own 433.9 million firearms.
There are an estimated 1,000,000~ times a year that firearms are used in legal self defense, and that doesn't always mean someone was shot, sometimes just pointing a gun will drive a criminal off.
