Easy Peasy! Thanks for making the new bushing, Dave.
Вот молодцы американцы!!!!
I did this surgery a couple years ago with an oil-brass shoulder bushing I got from Grainger. It is an interference fit to the aluminum carrier, so had to be lightly driven in, and is a tight enough fit on the shifter shaft that I had to slightly file the knurled areas and slots. Your solution is undoubtedly easer, but mine is all there was at the time, as there are no factory rebuild parts.
Great videos thank you! I'm from the UK. (Liverpool) and love any useful mods for my 09' 1.9 tdi golf variant (estate/station wagon) I recently had my clutch replaced and I'm going to service the gear box myself with a fluid change, I think it's overdue.. I'd like to check all the parts your video's show with linkage problems too though so no doubt, because of my car's age, will be buying some of the great bushings etc. You guy's are offering.
Thanks again. :)
Hey guys great info and very helpful. What kit would I need if my mk4 GLI Jetta 6 speed shifter doesn't spring back to the center. It just has no spring back to the center point. Thanks much
Great video. Thank you.
Great video .. thanks
Helpful, thank you!
I have this problem on my 2010 Jetta TDI. Your website says it fits MK4 and early MK5's but in this video you say it fits all the way up to the MK6. My shifter assembly looks very similar to this so I'm assuming it will fit but I just want to make sure before I buy. While I'm on this topic, will the first gear grabber fit my 2010? Cheers! :)
Does this work on the 1.4 mk4 golf too?
Does the linkage kit you have with cable saver fit the 6 speed also?
Rob
That clamp you removed to get shift boot off....ziptie good enough afterwards or a car hose clamp probably?
Do you have brushing repair kits for a VW Polo 9n3 05 - 09
What do you use to reattach the shift boot and head after you cut off the crimped clip?
my shifter just squeaks into 1st and 2nd, i tried putting grease everywhere but never thought about those bushings. Do you think it might be that?
Hi Jim, I have 2 VW Rabbits. 2007 & 2008. Will your deluxe bushing kit fit on these? My wifes 07 I having issues grabbing 1st, and there's crazy forward/back slop. I believe the rabbit is a MK5, and I'm having trouble finding fitment info on your website.
Do you ship to UK?
the piece that holds the spring in, by any chance you know the part number to replace it, mine flew off while installing my new bushings....
@@dieselgeekdotcom Using a c-clip for now so I can still drive my car. Thanks for the part number
sorry bit off topic. what is the best grease for those plastics. many thanks
PFPE grease (you can find it under the name Krytox) is a non reactive synthetic grease safe for pretty much all common plastics that contains PTFE (Teflon). There would be other options if I knew what the plastic actually was, but Krytox is safe with almost any plastic I'm aware of. I know this is late but hope it helps you or anyone else curious.
I am replacing my stock shifter to a short throw shifter, and people tell me to replace the bushings. They weren’t specificIs, is this what they are talking about??? I have a 2002 MK4 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T
i am having trouble with a mk4 going into reverse. I'm able to put it into reverse manually under the engine bay, but it is nearly impossible from within using the shifter. no problem getting out of it once i get under the hood and set it up, then back up i can take off, but i suspect it is having trouble going all the way down to the level of reverse and thats why once down it won't go in gear from inside. i don't have a mechanic i can trust or i would just call em n see what i need to do, i gotta do it myself and I'm not sure what part is responsible for this so was hoping someone here would?
Did you ever figure it out? I’m having that problem right now
@@angelruiz5421 yeah I had to get a new Trans my clutch was acting up but changing that didn't help I basically got robbed by a shitty shop
Do you have a video to help with 2004 Beetle Turbo S 6 speed shifter? Mine is not able to go in reverse...
@@dieselgeekdotcom Thank you! After watching the video, I looked around the different places in the shifting assembly and found that a cap from the negative post of the new battery I just changed out had fallen down into the gap below the selector shaft, preventing it from moving into 1st/Reverse position. I pulled it out of the way and everything ran perfect! That was an EASY fix for once!
Did that pin used on the shifter come with the bushing kit? If not, Where did it come from.

Just bought your bushing and followed the video, cleans out the shaft, but all the lower bushing does is lock up my shifter leaving me to force it back up, what can I do to fox this? It's a mk4 golf with a 5speed
@@dieselgeekdotcom i can't view your email.
I have the same problem and even tried greasing it with no luck
@@3meansgo I ended up not using it and haven't had any issues with it. The spring slipped into the housing and with the locking cap it just stayed in place.
Every single time we have this compliant the problem ends up being debris in the housing causing the bushing to bind. -tyler
Jim,
Whenever you need an Audi TT as a ginuea pig, I'll offer mine. It's an 03.
@@dieselgeekdotcom,
BTW, just finished changing the first gear getter bushings plus the super slider.
All my gears work now.
Thanks so much.
Thanks for all your informative videos, much appreciated. Is this do-able without removing the shift knob ? I have removed my center console and cut my tattered shifter boot off, so plenty of room. I don't want to cut the crimp if and replace if I don't need to.
Ok thanks for the reply
You can also use a small hose clamp or get one of those clamps very cheap so you can remove and put back on correctly.
