The current obesity rate is 42%. In 1980 it was 12%. By 2030 it's predicted to be 60%. The reasons for this increase: 1. Processed foods 2. Bad parenting 3. Fat acceptance 4. The elimination of physical education classes in schools (in most school districts students can opt out of gym. When I was in school, it was required through 12th grade). 5. Technology. Kids sit on their phones, computers and video games instead of playing sports or riding bikes.

true. very bad structure. You also can outright declare that the society is in its demise at its whole. And there is something in between your items 2. and 3. : extra-genetic congenital inheritance. An obese female will give birth to children that are obese and metabolically "at risk" from day 1 of their sad life.
Your item 4. is particularly interesting, as it connects biological matter to political pseudo-democratic structures via socio-economically imposed addiction. Or in simpler words: the pressure of wanting to get re-elected crossed with the epidemic physical inability of obese youngsters, downgrading their overall exams, suppresses the insight that movement always enhances general intelligence.... very sad. Any sustaining bottom-up approach will take decades to correct.

There are minimally processed foods that really aren't a big deal, such as canned tomato paste with no additives, and so forth. Frozen wild "easy-peel" shrimp is processed, but probably nothing wrong with it. Ground beef is processed, but not necessarily anything wrong with it. Old-style organic condiments without sugar added-some mayonnaise, for example.

It isnt just the fact that ultra processed foods are bad that is the problem. It also the fact that many of the ingredients for that food and other foods are lacking absorbable nutrients. Anti-nutrients like gluten, oxalates, phytates and lectins, plus monoculture deplete nutrients in the soil over time. When crops are rotated with animal grazing the soil is much richer.

Really interesting video Thomas. I think that one of the main reasons people eat more calories on processed food is because the body is trying to get in enough vitamins and minerals, and in some cases, protein. I think you're right that it's because the processed foods are displacing more nutritious foods.

After getting my body clean and I go out and have restaurant food the next day, I can hardly move and I know it’s because of the unhealthy oils and all the chemicals in the food! I don’t have to have a survey done for me. My body tells me that the junk in the food when you eat out and eating processed foods at like McDonald’s or Burger King or Wendy’s or any of the fast food places is dangerous for your body, your body will tell you the truth. @@danielj5136 Obviously you don't eat 100% healthy/whole foods so you have not experienced what most Keto & Carnivore people have when eating out. What happens is the crap they cook with affects our stomach because get very sensitive eating only whole foods or animal products and our body immediately reacts to the seed oils and anything ultra-processed. When your stomach doesn't feel good you feel sick and it drains your energy. I am pretty sure that's what he means by "can't move" We just feel tired and sluggish until our GI tract gets rid of the bad stuff and recovers.

One of the largest studies on processed foods is the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) study, which involved over half a million participants from 10 European countries. The study investigated the association between processed food consumption and various health outcomes, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and overall mortality. The findings from the EPIC study, along with other research on processed foods, suggest several key points:Increased risk of chronic diseases: Consumption of processed foods, particularly those high in added sugars, unhealthy fats, sodium, and food additives, has been associated with an increased risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and overall mortality.Nutrient deficiencies: Processed foods are often low in essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, which are important for overall health and disease prevention. Overreliance on processed foods in the diet may contribute to nutrient deficiencies and poor health outcomes.Impact on weight management: Processed foods are typically high in calories and low in satiety-promoting nutrients such as fiber and protein, which can contribute to overeating and weight gain. Diets high in processed foods have been linked to obesity and difficulty in maintaining a healthy weight.Influence on dietary patterns: Consumption of processed foods has been associated with less healthful dietary patterns characterized by higher intake of unhealthy fats, sugars, and refined carbohydrates, and lower intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. These dietary patterns are known to increase the risk of chronic diseases and contribute to poor overall health.Importance of food quality: The EPIC study and other research highlight the importance of focusing on the quality of foods consumed rather than solely on macronutrient composition or calorie content. Choosing whole, minimally processed foods over highly processed alternatives can help promote better health outcomes and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.Overall, the largest studies on processed foods emphasize the need for individuals to prioritize whole, nutrient-dense foods in their diets and to limit consumption of highly processed, energy-dense foods that are low in nutritional value. Adopting a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats can help support overall health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. 😮🤦‍♂️🙏 Thom!

Crazy 5oz of filet grass fed organic beef at Publix was 14.99… 12 organic eggs that are pasture raised were 10.00! Really….

I think you left out the word "sugar." Your point is valid if you mean that foods with both high sugar and high fat are an issue due to the Randle Cycle, as you will use the sugar for energy and store the fat.

While I do not like ultra processed foods, government is not going to ban it. If the do it will be one small thing.
They are in bed with the Adventist cult food industry.
They will ban real food like meat, healthy animal fats, eggs, etc once they get started.
So I will not push for banning foods, something Bill Gates wants to do, to help starve you while getting rich off your death.

I wish this study wasn't garbage, because I'm pretty sure there are a lot of processed foods that people just plain should never eat, and some that people should rarely eat. I try to limit processed foods in general, and avoid ultra-processed foods even more. I'm very picky about condiments, for example, and anything I eat from a can is very simple, such as organic tomato paste with no additives.

  • @RoadkillxDemon

"Ultra processed food" is such a bad categorization tho. It doesn't explain what components and process are bad and thereby the study is rather worthless other then for further research to isolate the problem areas. AFAWK the causal ingredients/process may as well be how we prepare home made meals as well, so people might be going around thinking they are making healthy choices just because it's not "ultra processed".

Thomas this was great but the problem is that it’s extremely expensive to eat mostly/ all Whole Foods. There is a massive amount of people living paycheck to paycheck that can’t afford a 3/4 - complete whole food diet. It would incredibly helpful if you could do videos on how many of us who live paycheck to paycheck can make inexpensive alternative options to our food so that we too can be healthier.

No offence, the only correct sample size for any food and health study and even experiment is 1, yourself. From your own use of ultra processed foods you should know fairly accurately its beneficial and or baneful effects on your own health. These reports are simply not true.
Most allegedly scientific studies read like this, you only need one part of your body, never any other. Like you only need eyes , not ears or nose; or like you only need one of every part of your body not a pair, like you only need one kidney, and not two; or that you only need to fast and to diet but not to eat or that you only need to eat but not to fast and to diet; or that you only need to have fats not salts , spices and sugars, or that you only need poly-saturated or is it unsaturated fat not mono-unsaturated..., or that you only need protiens not carbs, in your diet. You only need to exercise not rest and recuperate, or you only need to rest and to relax , not exercise, or you only need one form of exercise of one part of the body, not any other. You only need to work, not play....
Yes, theoretically and practically, just a strand of a person's hair, a drop of his saliva, blood, urine, sweat, ...., or a clip of his nail, a bit of his skin..., will contain his entire DNA and is always sufficient to reconstruct the person perfectly, but does that mean none of those different parts are really necessary or that they are all most essential.
You need the right mix and the right balance of everything in the right measure, and in the right amount. Perfection is always a matter of proportion only, never a matter of excess of one at the expense or lack of the other, never a matter of surplus of one at the cost of deficit of the other.

It also isn't as simple as those people are lazy and dumb. A lot of socioeconomic factors and the convenience of ultra processed foods in a stressful society/country influence these behaviors. Add to that the greedflation we see from large food conglomerates and the evil of the American sickcare system and it is a damned trainwreck. This country is just screwed.
